if not check to see, if there is any voltage output on SPDIF out with Multimeter( Bought one DMM from frys for $3, normally $10, but very handy).

I checked my cable / reciever plugged into my HD-STB : works perfectly.

I don't have a multimeter, I'd almost rather just buy a sound card.

but my case is a "desktop" case, and is very low profile, so I probably can't get one to fit...

I really don't get why it isnt working. All the settings look ok.. can you post some screenshots of your Realtek setup? (SP/DIF advanced properties)

Thanks.

Hmm, I have: BIOS 3.50, A64 3000+ e6 stepping. With Clockgen 1.0.4.7 the chipset is detected as Nvidia 6100, and the clock speeds are read correctly, but any changes I make aren't applied. It looks like it works, but the clocks don't change and nothing melts when I set it to 4000 .

Are there any BIOS settings that could cause Clockgen to fail? Does anyone have it working with the 3.50 BIOS?

Problem # 3

Also, someother thing I observed, 4-5 large downloads (about 100MB) failed in between, just stuck there, no more progress using firefox or IE6!! Not always, but few times.

Same sites, files I downloaded fine with my laptop.

any tips would be highly appreciated

Thanks

Looks like latest Ethernet driver(50.2.3) in the latest 430/410 chipset is the problem. Replacing that one with old driver version 50.0.9.0 solved the hung downloads problem.

Haa , I never expected Nvidia drivers could be this buggy.. I thought only ATI is worse.

EDIT: Nope, look like that did not fix the problem. I am still having problems with downloads pause/hung forever, Browsing is not a problem, also if I keep browsing while download, it works fine. Dropped a RealTek network PCMCIA card, everything is fine and no problems with downloads, it is problematic with only Nvidia Ethernet. Though RealTek works fine, it is occupying precious PCI slot.

Any tips please?

thanks chinna, thanks to you I can now increase my overclock by adding 0.05 volts my only problem is that until the computer boots into windows and runs RMclock it is missing those 0.05v. now my question is whether there is a way to keep it at 1.45v even when not in windows (without installing bios 3.00). I noticed that in the management tab (of RMclock) there are the following 3 options: (they are all checked)

Restore CPU defaults on management turning off
Restore CPU defaults on application exit
Use values found at startup instead of hardcoded CPU defaults

can changing these allow the 1.45v to be permanent (i.e. even when windows is loading)?

I'm also having SPDIF problems. The strange thing is that I did have sound initially but now nothing. Here are the details:

- MCE 2005 SP2 with TheatreTek
- using the supplied SPDIF bracket with coax to my receiver

When I first set the system up, I was able to listen to my MP3s using MCE through the receiver. Then I switched to watch a DVD - no sound. So I tried some of the TT settings - no luck. Now I can't get any sound (no windows startup, MP3s or anything).

I've tried everything I can think of:
- uninstalled all audio drivers / reinstalled the latest Realtek 880 (1.42)
- uninstalled TT
- checked all the sound settings (in windows and Realtek audio manager) a hundred times
- checked the receiver input assignments
- switched the coax cable
- switched the SPDIF connectors on the board
- reinstalled windows from scratch

I do get sound from the analog outputs (I attached a pair of desktop speakers to one of the outputs). But no sound through SPDIF.

I haven't tried the multimeter test as mentioned above. I'll do that tonight. I'm also going to borrow a spare sound card with optical out and see if that fixes the problem. If it does, I think I'll just buy a sound card - less work then trying to figure this thing out.

Any other thoughts/suggestions?

Thanks.

Unfortunately, it is not possible. RMClock loads like any other startup program, once loads, it dynamically requests voltage changes.

There is also an option to unlock VIDs and as well as FIDs, but my processor is not obeying those values.

Anyways, best of luck with that. So far for me it was stable only if I use just two steppings 5x and 10x.

That is strange, mine is stable with 5 steppings 4x 6x 8x 9x 10x and I could probably do 5x and 7x too but I haven't tried

Typical usage I did not have any problems, but I try different scenarios to find if it is really stable. I do not like uncertainity esp in this case.

To be frank those are my ideal steppings 4x, 6x, 8x, 10x.

BTW my processor is X2 3800+, what is yours?

Probably that is the reason. Dual cores are having problems while stepping down. Sofar I saw few people with success with single cores, none with dual core.

Foxxconn's new board is finally available!

@ eWiz $73 + shipping

Manufacturer's Link

At first glance, adds dvi and hdtv out, but now no firewire.
Any other observations?

P.S. After reading this thread, I rma'd my gigabyte 6150 board after 10 months of frustrated use.
Newegg gave me a 100% refund and I was able to get the MSI FID board shipped for less.
Waiting on it now. I LOVE THE EGG!

I am wanting to build an AM2 board and give my 939 to my fiance, and I'm looking at the DFI board when it comes out. Did anyone else notice that its bigger than most uATX boards? Will this fit in a q-pack? DFI's site says its 24.4cm (9.6") x 26.4cm (10.4"). Isn't uATX 9.6 x 9.6? WTF?

Can anyone point me to where I can find the meanings for the beep codes when the computer is first started up? I remember getting only a single beep, but now it has 2 short beeps after the POST and seems to take longer to fully load into windows. I've looked through the manual, but don't see them anywhere.

Thanks!

Looks like the Foxconn board has all the features the MSI board has except for the firewire. There is one thing I noticed I like about the Foxconn board. The PCI Express X1 slot is below the PCI Express X16 slot. I recently got Gigabyte's 7600GT with the silent heat pipe cooler and, unfortunately, it takes 2 slots and covers up one of my PCI slots. With the Foxconn board, I'd still have both PCI slots available. Hmmm.....

That Foxcon board has a few nice features. The bios has more voltage options than the MSI one and the chipset heatsinks look much better. And the slot locations as subcodec said.

Minuses are no 1394 port (header is there) and can't tell if there is a spdif header. Manual not avail yet on website.

The review on tweaktown was really disappointing. Besides the wrong number of PCI slots (did the writer ever look at the mobo?), why did he devote most of the review to gaming performance using the 6150 chip? Like reviewing a Yugo for racing at Daytona. The 6150 is an HTPC chip.

And changing subjects a bit, would it be possibe to use the Foxcon's Award bios on a MSI board?

Just like MSI, the best place to go for info is Foxconn's Global site. There I found the manual, BIOS, drivers, etc.

There is a SPDIF header on the board, but it is 4 pins across instead of 3. The manual says nothing about the SPDIF connector being optional. It could be possible that this board might finally come with the SPDIF bracket.

Even if you could flash the Foxconn BIOS to the MSI board, I don't see much advantage to it. From what I read in the manual, I don't see much in settings that the MSI BIOS already has.

The manual also mentions 1394 headers being optional. We could see a similar board from Foxconn that includes 1394.

On a side note, I've been really happy with the general features of the 6150/430 chipset. Too bad they don't have a full ATX board with 4 or 5 PCI slots with this chipset.

Hi folks!

I have a little bit trouble with my system:

X2 3800+ cooled by Thermalrigth SL-120
MSI K8NGM2-FID
2x 512 Crucial Ballistix CL2 (@2,8V VDIMM, thats Spec.)
Hitachi T7K250 SATA II (Only SATA 1 activated)
Enermax Liberty 400 Watt
DVD-Rom (Only Primary IDE Channel activated)
Floppy
Coolermaster Mystiqe 631 (2x 120mm Fans)
WinXP SP2
AMD Dual Core Driver
AMD Dual Core Optimizer
nforce 430 8.26 Drivers w/o IDE and NAM installed
forceware 9.31
Newest Realtek Drivers
Kaspersky AntiVir
MSI PCAlert

All stock speeds, CPU-NB@800MHz, NB-SB@800MHz, 16 Bit

Thats all running this system.

I have just built this system 2 days ago.

Yesterday I started a double Prime95 Session, Torture Testing for about 10 Hours.
Everything went fine, no Errors during this session.

But when I stopped Prime (both sessions), I just wanted to start a 3DMark06 afterwards.

But the programm hanged up, then I tried 3DMark03, same result.
Then the System went unstable, stuttering and hanging, not able to work with it. Tried to shut down, what was not possible.
Then I resetted the system and directly went into the BIOS, with the Result, that the Bios freezed, so resetted again and then, everything was quit normal, I could enter directly enter the Bios after the second reset, starting up windows and so on.

I looked up the event logs in Windows, bringing the following results:
the 3dmarks hang up (both) -> logged in the Application Log

Problems with the CD-Rom (DVD) and Atapi logged in the System Log:

\Device\Ide\IdePort0 did not respond within the error-waiting-time (I have to translate this, sorry for that ) (EVENT 9)

and

an error occured during a buffer-procedure concerned \Device\CDrom0 (Event 51)

But a DVD-Drive (Toshiba-Samsung /TSST) causing a Bios Freeze???? And Yes it is correctly recognized in the BIOS.

RAM is okay, tested it with memtest86+ overnight, no errors
HDD is also okay, tested it with Hitachi Drive Fitness Test, no errors
During Prime Session, no CPU errors

Temperatures are okay, during Prime Session (Full Load), PCAlert 4 shows 47° CPU and 36° System (But I think NB and SB are hotter, but that seems to be quite normal)

So what the Hell is not right with my system?

Anyone Ideas? I really could need help!

BTW: ATM I am running a second Prime Session, with Optimized Defaults loaded and another DVD-Drive (TEAC).

I don't know if this has already been mentioned, but the K9NGM2-FID, the AM2 version of this board, is for sale in the US now, and already out of stock with every one of the web merchants my Froogle search brought up.

Can anyone who has the K9NGM2-FID confirm there are really no overclocking options in the BIOS?

As I have mentioned before, I am interested in running 4gb of memory at full speed. Apparently the FID will drop to 333 memory speed when 4 sticks of memory are used. Anyone care to speculate whether an AM2 board would not have this problem? If so, I would use that instead.

Replying to my own post -- DUH: AM2 supports DDR2 533/667/800 memory (240-pin), so it should be no problem supporting 4gb of memory

Ethernet problem: The ethernet always worked fine for me. You should be able to install the Nforce drivers which include the IDE, ethernet, and other misc drivers. Follow the order that the first post provides when installing the drivers.

Setting up RAID: To set up an array, you need to enter the BIOS for the RAID. To do this, you need to press F4 (or something like that, can't remember off hand, but it does say on the screen) and the screens you'll get will be fairly easy for you to follow to set up a mirrored array.

Also, make sure you use the 430/410 Nforce drivers, not the Nforce 4. The current version is 8.26 (again, the first post lists the drivers and even where to get them).

thanks,
I did eventually install the latest 8.34 whql drivers, and got the system working, but the raid is still a problem. The only solution that seems to have worked for me was to install with raid disabled, reboot after enabling a single drive stripped array (ie, enable the raid but don't create an array iwth more than one drive), install the raid driver, then migrate the array to a mirrored array using nvidia software which takes about 12 hours in windows. what a pain.

My raid array keeps degrading. I'm going to double check the hard drive's health and run memtest and get back here if everything checks out ok... thanks

Hi Batorok,

Where did you get this 8.34 version driver. On website I am only seeing 8.26. I could not find it.

I am also having ethernet issues with downloads hanging, may be this version helps.

Thanks

I think I'm getting confused. I used the 8.36 whql certified ones, but I also tried the 9.24 as mentined here
http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=51140
which didn't work for me, mostly because my iso's from nlite were bad, setup didn't work. I may try this again if I can get nlite to generate good xp install discs.

Posting my disappointing overclocking results.

3500+ Venice
Corsair DDR400 2x512 value ram
Mem Limit 166

The max it would go and still pass mprime and memtest was 2.333GHZ (212MHZ). It would boot up to about 2.45GHZ but fail mprime and memtest #5 almost immediately. At 2.5 it wouldn't boot at all. Based on the excellent first entry in this thread, I was expecting better. Still, a nice little computer
