douayang,
  • To search for a term in the entire thread, use the Search these messages feature of this forum. (A problem is that not all occurrences of the search term will be hit by this method.)
  • To search for a term in a page, use Google Toolbar's Highlight Search Terms and/or Word Find Buttons. They are useful to search in my first long post.

Thanks! I'll start using those tips. I need to know now whether the memory should be on DIMM1 & 2 or DIMM1 & 3... Off to the searches

...after several days of testing my brand new K8NGM2-FID I'm back here with some thoughts/questions:

- picture quality with my Dell 2005FPW is just fine! rotation works perfectly, and DVI gave me much better picture then with previous ATI Xpress200 chipset

- is it me or are both NB and SBridge so hot ? having two thermometers in Aspire X-Qpack allowed me to mesure both temparatures: on NB it's 72 C :| , and on SB it's 59 C, with 24 C ambient.
I'going to install watercooling on all possible components (diificult because of small waterblocks nedded) anyway, but ... aren't those a bit to high?

- what graphic card would you recomend ? (I'm thinking of something like x1600pro/xt class - any ideas?)

DIMM Module Combination

Thanks Renethx for the clarification. I had read this link prior to posting my question. I concluded from the link that it was DIMM1 & DIMM2 for dual channel operation & also to ensure that my ram would run @ 400 Mhz, not 333 Mhz. I was just getting conflicting info, b/c the memory mfg insists that it should be DIMM1 & DIMM3 for dual channel operation.

i am having a problem with dual-view atm.

i have a 2405 and a 1704 monitors from dell.

i want the 2405 in landscapein portrait, but only get the option of landscape or portrait for both.

this is with a Shuttle SN25P and MSI 7900GT, will i have the same problem with a 2-FID board which i have ordered?

cheers

Why are you interested in ASUS audio under linux? You are neither using the ASUS board nor ordering it, are you?

I am using 940B in landscape mode and 940T in portrait mode in DualView mode with no problem. Are you using Linux? If so, that's the cause of your problem. Linux is near a crap as far as the multiple monitor support is concerned. Under Windows you are able to do fine tuning of multiple monitor mode. However under Linux you aren't. If you want a productive multiple monitor environment, stay away from Linux.

R3MF: this works for me using onboard graphic:

right click desktop, choose nvidia, select either display. click nview display settings. This gives you the screen with the two monitors. Right click on the monitor you want to rotate, then select nvrotate.

Doing this, I'm able to independently rotate either my 19" LCD monitor or my 1920x1080 HDTV.

The neworking chip VITESSE vsc8201RX that is used on the MSI K8NGM2-FID board is not very linux friendly. Is there anyone using this board currently with linux only that got this networking chip to work under linux without the use of ndiswraper?

I bought this mobo 'coz of it's DVI.
For now I am happy with it, still I have a plan of buying decent video card - both for some gaming and testing new watrcooling setups.

And my plans include - as mentioned ealier- something like x1600xt - card with good power/price ratio. Still, I'd be pleased with any sugestions...

because the MSI board is very hard to get hold of in the UK, and if scan tell me i'll have to wait another month the asus board may be my only option.

no, i am using windows.
when i have tried to use nView in the past the option has not shown up for dual-view. Using the windows wizard i get the dual-view option but not the granularity to select settings for individual monitors.
however it does appear that independant monitor settings are possible in nView provided i can get dual-view to show up as an option.

As we already have the NVidia video drivers installed to run the on-board graphics chip, I have the impression it could be preferable to get a NVidia video card, such as the 7600 GS or 7600 GT. That is my plan anyway, considering I also prefer the GeForce 7600 line to the X1600 products

If at some point I want to, or have to, go back to the integrated graphics, the correct driver will already be on the system. Otherwise, going back to the integrated video chip will mean that only the default Windows driver will be accessible, unless the ATI driver is uninstalled and the NVidia driver is reinstalled. That is my understanding anyway...I hope I am right...

Then there are all the questions regarding using more than one monitor.

Of course, an ATI video card can be used on this board. It is just that it seems simpler to stay with NVidia.

I just put together a pc with

MSI K8NGM2-FID mobo
A64 3000+ venice
patriot 1G(2x512) 2-3-2-5 1T
SATA 200G hd

installed XP SP2, after all the programs are installed (anti-virus, spyware, firewall, etc) and all windows updates, the machine showed the Blue Screen Of Death (Stop 0x00000077 KERNEL_STACK_INPAGE_ERROR)

i read through microsoft's Troubleshooting "Stop 0x00000077" or "KERNEL_STACK_INPAGE_ERROR" and eliminated the possiblility of virus and hard driver failure, so now it comes down to either the mobo or the memory.

I then got memtest86+ and upon starting the memory test after reboot, it went through all tests with red error, all i mean ALL OF THEM! and stop at test #8 i think.

CPU-Z reports both memory sticks running at 2-3-2-5-1T as advertised, all settings in bios are set to auto except for Memclock Value is set to 166MHz (if i set it to auto, the memory will run at 400MHz, so i lowered it now its running at 333MHz).

other bios settings:

# CPU to NB Frequency: 1000MHz
# NB to SB Frequency: 800MHz
# CPU to NB LinkWidth: [16 down, 16 up]

Lowering the memory speed didn't help too much, now it seems like the BSOD is less frequent, I havent had time doing intensive windows test but did manage to burn 8 DVDs without encountering BSOD (about an hour straight, then it was left on for 2 hours without a problem) So, basically, i dont know the pattern of BSOD happening.

I also ran a program called CheckIt to test memory in windows (a 3 mins test) and all the tests passed. Anyone can help me solve this?

bad memory?
bad mobo?
wrong bios settings? (dont know the bios version, but bios date is 2/7/2006 so i think its v3.2)
or else?

Thanks so much!!!

Try disabled "Legacy USB Device" support in BIOS and rerun MemTest. Read the first post. He is talking about it.

I have similar problem earlier with similar setup (but Venice 3200+, 2x512 Corsair XMS 2-3-3-6 1T, Seagate SATA 80GB). Now, I have OC'ing problem... Seems like everyone can run this over 2.3GHz but mine can run stable @ 2.27GHz!

How can I verify which components I have is bad? (Mobo vs CPU vs RAM)...
