Hi,
First I'd like to thank renethx for creating one of the most in-depth support threads I have come across and it helped sway my decision in buying this excellent motherboard.
Heres a quick look at my specs:
Hitachi TX100 1280 x 720p Projector
Athlon 64 X2 3800 w/stock HSF
MSI K8NGM2-FID
2x 512 Crucial DDR PC3200 (Dual-Channel)
2x Samsung SpinPoint 250GB SATA HDD
Seasonic 350W PSU
Nec ND3540A DVD RW
I received the mobo a couple of days ago and now I finally have it set up so that it runs 100% rock solid.
The main reasons I chose this board and the x2 3800 was for High-Definition playback, mainly the more intensive H264 high-bitrate movies and the upcoming HD-DVD/Blue-Ray tittles.
I previously owned a P4 3ghz Northwood system and it played everything I threw at it except the Marie Antoinette H264 1080p Quicktime tralier and the BBC's HD 'Planet Earth'.
Now after installing the latest drivers for this mobo, I can play Planet Earth flawlessly without any drop in frames using Core AVC codec, AC3 Filter and Media Player Classic with 5.1 DD5.1 sound on my Denon AV-Receiver and the cpu is around 65-75% (no overclocking). Btw, I had to modify my Asus SPDIF Out bracket so that it could fit into the MSI mobo.
Now here lies the problem I have (if you can call it that).
I have read this entire thread from begining to end and I still cant seem to overclock my cpu to 2.4 ghz. The most I can overclock to is 2360 ghz and if I raise the CPU-LDT Frequency MHz anymore than that, the PC just won't boot past the windows loading screen.
Here are the settings I used:
Bios 3.0
Memclock Mode: [Limit]
Memclock Value: [100 MHz] I have altenated from 100 MHz to 200 MHz
User Config Mode: [Manual]
CMD-ADDR Timing Mode: [1T] Have tried 2T
CPU to NB Frequency: [800 MHz] Have tried from 400 MHz to 1000 MHz
NB to SB Frequency: [800 MHz] Have tried from 400 MHz to 1000 MHz
CPU to NB Linkwidth: [16 ? 16 ?]
NB to SB Linkwidth: [8 ? 8 ?]
CPU-LDT Frequency, MHz: [240]
Processor Frequency Multiple: [x10 2000 MHz]
DDR Voltage: [2.55V] (default) Have tried 2.60 to 2.75V
Can anyone advise in what I might be doing wrong, or could it be that my ram is the bottleneck?
Thanks
