Anyone hear if there is a 32GB option this time? Because I've already bought my last 16GB Nexus device.

I think it's a pretty safe bet that we'll get a 16GB and 32GB versions. Samsung's base Note 3 is now 32GB, it would be pretty embarrassing of Google to still sell 8GB.

I don't know about that. I would've said this last year given that 16/32 has been standard for Apple since 2009. And with people clamoring for a $300 price point, who knows?

They'd be two steps behind Samsung, and one behind Apple if they tried to do an 8GB phone again.

But there's people who want $249 phones, so 8gb might make sense. While I don't give a damn about 8gb, and I'd buy a 32gb at minimum, Google doesn't always do what we want it to do... Therefore I'm preparing for the worst, which is a repeat of 8/16gb.

Available space on an 8GB Nexus is still probably pretty close to the 9GB my S4 had available.
I'm jumping to the new Nexus regardless what it has, hopefully ordering one isn't too much of a pain.

I think it was like 5.3/5.6 GB range. Better than the bloat fest that is the gs4, but still quite a bit less.

We really do need 32gb this gen, and I think we'll get it too. I thought I read something about that a little while ago.

so...ETA?

I've seen several articles mention October 14, but I have no idea where they're getting that date from.

It needed to come out last month, not October. If they wow'd me I would have probably bought one, but now the Note 3 comes out tomorrow and I've already made up my mind.

I'm still worried there may not be a 32GB option. The Galaxy Nexus arrived with a 32GB option (though Verizon only I think). Then the Nexus 4 comes around and Google takes an intentional backwards step with 8 and 16GB configurations.

I don't think Google cares what Apple and Samsung does while they are selling phone at half the price. And I think Google really wants to force people into streaming more and storing less. So if they do the 8/16GB thing again, I wouldn't be surprised.

Unfortunately as much as I do stream, 16GB just isn't enough anymore. Games are taking quite a lot of space these days, and while I use Google Music All Access, I still want to pin some of my music and videos off line.

My Nandroid backups are taking up 3gb. I have 1 only. If I need to do another to swap between Nandroids to figure out whats going on, I'll be out of space because I only have about 3.8gb free right now. It's ridiculous.

Nexus will have microsd slot right?

Nope never, only Nexus to have one was the first one, never again.

Also I think it's funny that people are still complaining about Google releasing the Nexus 4 with an 8GB option. How the hell else do you think they were able to offer such a cheap phone?

You're assuming people are asking for 32gb AND $299. That's fine Google offered a cheap version, but they should also cater to those looking for an alternative to other flagship phones like the HTC One and GS4, and LG G2.

I'm ready to pay $599 if it means a flagship phone without intentional neutered specs.

I have to agree with zerocool. While I think that 8 GB is not adequate, and furthermore I dislike the way OEMs try to squeeze $$$, using perhaps one of the cheapest components in a phone - the reality is that if there is a 8 GB option and it is $50 cheaper, there will be buyers.

Imagine the Nexus 5 is going to be 16GB/$300 and 32GB/$350 initially. (though I think realistically the prices will be higher) Then a month later Google releases 8 GB version for $250 or less. Is it 1) giving more options, or 2) Google being cheap on the storage? Will there be consumers willing to purchase 8 GB version for 250 less?

Well it could be multi tiered, no?

8gb/8mp camera - $299
16gb/8mp camera - $349
32gb/13mp OIS camera - $449

I get it that some people want or don't care about 8gb, but at the same time what about the people who want more storage to at least match the industry standard? What about the old excuse that this is a developer phone? Even if I deleted the 770mb of photos and videos I have on my phone, my apps, custom ROMs, Titanium Backups, and Nandroid take up so much space I have just enough space for 1 more Nandroid. If I were a ROM developer, how would you say 16gb is enough?

First it was the "developer phone" excuse as to why the Nexus doesn't have to have the best camera, or why it doesn't have to have the fastest CPU. Now its the $300 excuse for why it can have crappy storage. Where do you draw the line?

Storage is very cheap. Going to 16/32GB instead of 8/16GB would have made a very minor change to the build cost.

It's cheap because Google isn't trying to make a profit off the hardware, but the apps, contents, and advertising.

The issue of 8gb and no LTE were more geared towards not upsetting the OEMs than a cost issue. They could've easily executed 16/32gb with LTE without being hit with a major loss.

Google needs to release a damn PC program that backs up your phone, I mean a 100% backup, even with 32 gigs on my HTC One I don't have enough space for more than 1 Nandbackup. Say what you want about iTunes but the way it backs up your iOS device is great. There are some XDA solutions for backing up to a PC, but Jesus Christ it's a process and a half. Every "all in 1" Android PC program I've tried doesn't back up properly for me.

It should be hook the phone to the PC and the Nandbackup can be done directly to a PC. When I had my 16 gig Nexus 4 I couldn't even do a single back up.

8gb no microsd = dead in the water to me. Oh well.

Assuming you use TWRP, you can compress the backups. I have about 1.2GB on my phone, minus the music, and a backup is only about 700MB. 58% reduction in size is nothing to scoff at.

If they put the price higher it wouldn't be worth it. I got my Nexus 4 16GB for $300 recently, it works fine.

It's sold out now apparently, probably because of the Nexus 5 coming up.
