the moto X is still has 8 cores...

While you could argue that's true in a numeric sense, they're not really comparable to a full-fat ARM core.

I don't know if it's exactly the same, but dynamic notifications claim to do the same thing. I tried it but didn't find it terribly useful. Maybe because I have a PIN lock? (but doesn't everyone?)

Right, the Moto X allows you manage notifications without even seeing the lock screen.

Anyhow, has anyone got theirs yet? I would like to know if there's a setting to disable the business search in the smart dialer - i.e. can you restrict it to your own address book?

Yes, you can shut off the business search

Plugged in my microsim from my N4 to my N5 and most things appear to be working. I think I like 4.3 more than 4.4

For ST, do I need to add an APN to get LTE access? Can't tell what network on but I think it's only HSPA.

Also, where are my widgets? All of my apps reinstalled but I have no Widgets tab. I remember when I first turned it on, it had to do an update then tried to connect to a mobile network but couldn't. I skipped it and went wifi where things starting installing after I logged into my Google Account. I remember at one point a screen mentioned Widgets but can't find that screen in the settings.

Long-click on desktop screen and you will see "widgets" option.

I have an initially mixed-to-negative impression. Battery life is decisively on the negative side. The thing is though I don't think it is necessarily because of its battery size. I will refrain from making any substantive judgment at this stage but I am quite suspicious of "Android" 4.4.

When Google said they are building Android to run 512 MB of RAM they perhaps meant 512 MB of RAM plus 5000 mah battery? I hope my dread doesn't turn out to be reality in the coming days.

Thanks!

4.4 sucks! Used to have four desktop panels now you have two and a third if you use Google Now.

Crap, b/c of Google Now, I lose the left desktop window. 4.4 sucks!

edit - more 4.4 sucks! Desktop space has been reduced. Used to be able to have a 3x2 widget next to a 2x2, now they don't fit.
GEL sucks, but Nova rules.

Battery life is always poor for a few days as it downloads all your local map information, etc.

OK I'm tired of being up so this is as far as I'm going with this experiment. No charging time at all today (where normally it would be on and off a Qi pad all day). This is my first full day of use after a full overnight charge.

My N5 is completely dead already so I am just sitting here watching it recharge the battery.

Edit: Super-fast charging? It took about 40 minutes to charge 80% from 0%. Not sure if this is correct.

Took a picture of the N5 next to the N3. ^^ I will have the N3 for a couple more days so if anyone has a question I may be able to answer.

That's not encouraging. That's Galaxy Nexus/Nexus 4 like battery life. Or maybe even worse since that was pretty much on WiFi. But it's early. It might get better in a day or two after it finishes downloading and loading all the data.

The standby battery is ridiculous. Remember my complaints of like 3-4% drain per hour on my Nexus 4? Well look at this Nexus 5!

The downside is that the screen seems to drain quite a bit for me. I start using the phone and within no time the battery starts dropping fast.

What???? Where is it downloading? That would be bad in that it wastes your limited bandwidth. I'd argue that the battery is poor in the beginning because of mediascanner.

The phone is fine imho. Better camera, lighter and comparable battery life(wish it was better) than the N4. I hate Kitkat though.

They changed the damn standard email application where I have work email come thru and it now looks like gmail. The Navigation App is gone and you have to go thru additional stes in Maps as the replacement. And as I already mentioned going from 4 customizable front panels to 2. Big step backwards compared to 4.3

You can add homescreens... just drag an icon or widget into the next screen to the right.

It shouldn't be downloading crap tons of stuff over your data connection, you can check and see what's happening in the data usage bit of the network settings (remember to show wifi data in the settings).

I think by re-rom he implies flashing a Google Experience ROM on there, which should be released for 4.4 within a month.

Yes~ that's what I meant. I don't expect ATT/Tmo/etc.. to push out Kitkat anytime soon. Probably 6-9 months down the road most likely.

On wifi or cellular data mostly? If on cellular, it's ok and probably good enough for most people. If on wifi that's not good. WFH yesterday and my Note 3 with mostly wifi had 4.25 hours of on screen at the end of the day with 50% charge left.

I got to put my hands on one for a few minutes yesterday. Pretty nice phone. I'm happy the power button has been moved almost all the way to the top. Too often, I'd go to turn off the GNex and end up pressing the power and volume button together, or have the same problem if I went to adjust the volume. The new placement made me shift my grip a little bit and I don't think it'd be as much of an issue.

Pretty slick device, but the earpiece grille is uuuuuugly.

I just received a shipping notification about 30 minutes ago which is way earlier than expected...and I ordered on 11/01 at 2:11 AM which was 12 hours later than everyone else.
Excellent launch performance by Google...Much better than the ruckus launch that happened last year.
UPS just delivered a package at 9:30am this morning, and I know what's in it. ^_^
I was still on my bed chatting with my friend and I heard a truck. I looked out my bedroom window and it was UPS. I went to get ready to open the door and beat the UPS driver to it, but he had already opened our storm door and put the package between that and the door and he was already back in his truck before I knew it.
No signature necessary apparently.

I see a lot of talk about the speaker quality here. What are you using the speakers for that you're noticing issues? Are we talking traditional call-quality degrades because of the speakers or is this when using speakerphone? Or video/media/music? Or some other thing?
