Do you need to run a launcher to change this?

Also if you run a launcher do you lose Google Now to the left?

You can root and use something like Gravitybox to change it. Using another launcher will lose Google Now on the left (probably the one thing I miss most about my Nexus 5).

So if you use a launcher how do you pull up Google Now? Hold home button? And why did you give up the N5?

He said yes as in it won't work, so you're not doing anything wrong.

Duh. I had a brain fart. I miss nova but will use the stock launcher for two weeks to give it a fair shot.

The dialer is cool but i miss. Do dialer pro. Anybody here switch out the dialer?

I use Nova Launcher. I bring up Google Now by pressing the Google Search button.

I gave up the N5 cause my brother was going overseas and needed an unlocked phone (He had a GS4), so I gave him the Nexus, sold his phone, and then work issued me a G2.

i love chrome on android but it is a battery killer. i find that boat browser probably uses half the battery as chrome. i keep boat as default but i keep a chrome shortcut handy - this way if i want to pick up off where i left my tabs on my desktop, i can use chrome. but for my default browser - boat it is.

Is that the default function?

He's using the gesture shortcuts, you can make swipe up and down do basically whatever you want, and then also swiping down with two or three fingers being other actions.

It's part of the premium features when you pay for Nova Launcher.

Makes sense. I run Nova Prime but don't use the gestures.

Swipe down to pull the notification shade is pretty indispensable.

Indeed. My swipe up is Gesture Search, double tap turns off the screen, two finger swipe down toggles flashlight, pinch in starts navigation to home, pinch out starts navigation to work. Very handy.

Use them, they are great. You don't need to get all complicated with them.

Swipe down for notification and swipe up for Google now are essential for me.

I've got a couple of two finger swipes as well but the ones above really make life easier.

I find them interesting. It's sometimes too easy to accidentally swipe and cause an unwanted response. That's fine for me, but when I hand my phone to my mom for example, she flips out.

To me this is probably why PIE controls and other advanced features will never be mainstream. But maybe it's just me. I feel iOS 7 seems to have too many hidden toggles too. Swipe down to bring up spotlight. Swipe down from the top to bring the notification bar, swipe up for quick toggles. It's too much.

Use two or three finger swipes if you're setting them off accidentally a lot. I have to say that I really don't have that problem at all though.

I thought you'd be big on them as I know you like to easily use your phone with one hand.
With one finger swipes and the "double tap and drag" zoom thing Google has going on one handed use is easy even with a big screen.

definitely love the gesture settings in Nova.

I am finding the Vibrate level on the nexus 5 to be really bad. really bad. i'm going to have to root and increase it that way.

Huh, really? I found the vibrate on my Nexus 5 to be stronger than any of my other phones (SGS3,4,HTC One,Note 2 and even iPhone 4)

I like the near by places feature of the dialer but I don't like how the number pad doesn't take up the entire screen when it's shown. Reminds me to much of the old Sense dialer that had the call log and contacts all mixed together partially visible behind the number pad.

I have noticed that the vibrate is weaker on my Nexus 5 than it was on my Galaxy S II. When I first got my Nexus 5 I couldn't even hear it vibrate on a table it was so quiet. The 4.4.2 actually made a huge difference. It's still not as good as the vibrate on my S II but now it's acceptable. The vibration intensity and the better blacks and slightly better colors of my S II (after I got my replacement Nexus 5 because my first one had huge color issues) are all I miss about my piece of shit S II.
