I feel like there's two separate issues here, and people keep talking about the price. First of all, you can't compare the two prices that easily. Can you compare in terms of how much it impacts your wallet? Sure. Does it influence what you buy? Yeah. But remember, Google's using loss leader pricing. It's a different model. This is like comparing unlocked phones with subsidized phones. You inevitably talk $600 versus $200. I'm obviously spending more by buying unlocked phones whereas my friend is saving more by upgrading to a GS4 and spending $200. Google's not in it for hardware profit, and so just because they want to have cutthroat pricing, doesn't mean that everyone else does also. It also doesn't mean they should be cutting corners.

Like I said before, the Nexus is LIKE a flagship. It has practically all the specs of a flagship. There's nothing wrong with asking for more storage too. I don't get why people have the attitude of "Well it's $299, so they can do whatever." Would you be happy with a dual core Krait from last year because it's half the price? Would you be happy with a 720p screen because it's half the price of a GS4? Would you be happy with 1500mah battery? At what point do you draw the line?

It makes more sense to look at what the Nexus is competing against. It's competing with flagship phones. It's not competing against mid range HTC One Mini or GS4 Mini, so it makes sense to hold it against other top phones.

Has nothing to do with separate issues.
Every top tier phone has a base of 16gb except for maybe the One.
Just because you need 32gb doesn't mean it important to others.
16gb is hardly an issue. The majority of everyone I know has a 16gb phone.
If the Nexus has a 32gb which is a real possibility, it becomes more of a non-issue.
Cough up the money and buy the 32gb. The phone is super cheap already.
There are other worthy stuff to whine about than a super cheap phone with top specs and the norm 16gb.

Google should offer a 32 GB version at a minimum* or will be criticized to death.

Though I wouldn't mind a 8 GB version for $200. ^^

Edit: By "minimum offering" I mean there should be at least a model with 32 GB or more, not that there should not be a 16 GB SKU.

I don't mind if the base model is 16gb. They can make a 8gb model for all I care. For all the people who just want a cheap phone, I'm all for satisfying you guys. My issue is that there should be an option for those who want extra storage too. You keep saying that not everyone needs 32 or 64gb. That's fine, but that option would be nice to have, while offering a low end model.

Agreed. They can make a $199 model for all I care with 8gb and a 5mp camera and 1500mah battery.

I hope Google has the sense to make the two models thinner vs fatter like the droid razr and razr maxx.

Another source for the two battery sizes. A Japanese retailer has listed the two Nexus 5 models and they are also showing 16GB with 2300mAh battery and 32GB with 3000mAh battery. So it may be true.

http://androidcommunity.com/nexus-5-release-date-pricing-listed-on-japanese-site-20131008/
That website is another website that just reports anything just to generate page hits and not bother digging further on whether or not the information is actually true.

Recent "Nexus 5" myths debunked as I expected.
http://www.droid-life.com/2013/10/08/so-many-ridiculous-nexus-5-rumors-today/

So many Android websites out there lack any sort of journalistic integrity nowadays and just report anything for the sake of generating page hits...

Maybe the 32gb version with 3000mah battery is not another Nexus 5 version but rather GPE LG G2. The real Nexus 5 is just 16gb version with 2300 mah battery. That's my theory.

$300 for a phone like this is super tempting for me as someone on Verizon unlimited that can't upgrade. Just weary about switching carriers.

Interesting theory. More than likely, the 32gb is just the same as the 16gb and that's a weird incorrect leak. A 32gb LG G2 GPE would be super intriguing though. However, if it was typical GPE phone prices ($650-$700) that would totally kill its value. Interesting idea though, but I don't think we'll see a $400 G2 anytime soon.

I haven't personally used the g2 camera but from all the reviews they say low light sucks which the nexus 4 sucks at as well. I just want a s3/s4 like camera that can take quick pictures. The nexus 4 focuses too slow.

Low light sucks on the S4 too bud!

If you want low light, get a HTC One. It can actually take some low light pics that are usable. In good light, it doesn't capture as much detail though compared to the 13MP sensors.

Still overall a well balanced phone camera. Takes great Video too. Sense is better than Touchwiz too IMO, but I like stock Android best.

It may suck, but the Nexus 4 is absolute dog shit at low light and even in daylight. Just having an S4-like camera would be miles better than what Nexus 4 users have today.

Even with night mode enabled?
It is my understanding that Samsung doesn't automatically enable night(low light) mode on their cameras and the user needs to manually enable it.

I thought someone in here mentioned that there were rumors of a mid month announcement and end of the month release. So I'm just hoping that is the truth.

Crap! Don't know if I can wait that long for the N5 to come out.. Dropped my N4 in a puddle lastnight and the bottom of it got wet. My micro-usb worked for a while last night but stopped working and won't take a charge. Need to pick-up a Qi power mat now.

Usually, carry a battery pack with me due to the poor battery life of the N4. I guess I can charge the Qi power mat with the battery pack but still to pick-up a power mat to see if it'll charge. Verizon wireless supposedly has a LG one for $40.

Not vouching for its quality but:

Could work for you.

I'm not sure what normal is for Qi pads but the ones that I have are not USB powered.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. The Mugenizer N11 isn't available til Oct 24th(which looks like exactly what I'm looking for though pricey) and the Oree not til Oct 21st.

I'm guessing trying to take the N4 apart is going to be useless. The phone works fine, just the micro-usb port isn't working.

I'm looking at this but no stores appear to carry it but I can get it overnighted for Saturday for $60 in total.

http://www.verizonwireless.com/beta/accessories/lg-wireless-charging-pad/

The nearby Verizon Wireless store carries a couple of different charging pads(Nokia and Incipio). I'll go and check those out before ordering the LG one but the LG gets good reviews.

edit - found a Verizon Wireless store in a nearby town that carries the LG. Won't be able to get there til after 7 tonight. Have 46% remaining, hope it lasts til then.

Sorry if it's already been posted but will the N5 be Qi compatible?
Yes. Google's definitely pushing this wireless charging thing, and even if it isn't becoming an industry wide thing, there are enough adopters that it isn't dead in the waters. I'm just hoping the back won't cause it to slide off like the Nexus 4 currently does.

How anticipate in our previous exclusive, we came into possession of even more images on the Nexus 5 and Android 4.4 KitKat , however, that this time will show how the user interface of the new version of Android . Before we begin, we would like to reiterate once again the concept has already been stated in the previous article, namely that the build currently on board the 5 Nexus (Nexus 4, 2013) is not definitive and, therefore, at the time of deployment of something may change.

We start the aesthetics of the smartphone, which unfortunately we can show only a picture is not very detailed and well understand why. The design of the device is confirmed to be that of previous rumor, so slightly more "square" , but with the back rubber. Confirmed speaker for calls up in the middle.

Lockscreen Android 4.4 KitKat

Now we move on to something more interesting, and that is the lockscreen . From here you can already see the first news that Google will introduce the new version of Android, starting from the top of the screen. As we see, not only are the white icons in the notification bar , but the same notification bar is transparent and nuanced on black only towards the end.

Moving on to the screen lockscreen itself, we note that there is something different than before. While the center circle for the release remained the same, there has been the introduction of the camera icon in the lower right corner , as you can see from the image. Selecting the icon and dragging it to the left will launch the Camera application. The latter, however, may also be launched simply carrying out a swype to the left from the lock screen screen, as is done by Android 4.2 Jelly Bean. The following image shows what we just said.

Launcher

Another important innovation for the new launcher of Android. As we can see, the icon for the App Drawer (application drawer) is now no longer the white border outside but a transparent fill . In addition, there is no longer the horizontal line that is instead of Android 4.0 ICS that divides the quick launch applications from the rest of the elements of the homescreen. In the picture you see below, there are only two quick-start applications (Phone and Camera), and it can be seen especially that of the Phone icon present much more in style "flat." As we see, also, is not only the notification bar to be transparent but also the navigation bar , that is the one that contains the navigation buttons located on the bottom of the system (very in style Moto X).

From the image would seem to be 6 homescreen , but please note that there would be no fixed number of homescreen. When you first start should there be few, not 5 as usual we are accustomed, while the other should be added by hand with the placement of new widgets or applications . In practice, to create a new homescreen, select a widget or an application icon and drag along the edges of the device.

App Drawer (application drawer)

Profoundly modified the application drawer, or the App Drawer to use a more specific language. We no longer have the black background while I browse the application but a kind of transparency very pleasant. The icons are of larger size than the current ones and everything is on full display. For we can do the words "Applications" and "Widget" , while it remains unchanged flip through the effect of "cards" of the app drawer, just as right now. Note, also, that on the Nexus 5 (Nexus 4 2013) the grid of icons of the app drawer is 5 × 4 and should be the same even in the homescreen.

Android 4.4 KitKat: impressions of Use and news

Thanks again to our informant, we can tell you what are the impressions of using the 5 Nexus (Nexus 4, 2013) and we can give you some exclusive information. We've included his words.

Google Now and Search

Now Google is much more responsive. Just simply say "Ok Google" within Google Now to make a new search. Now Google is accessible in two ways: the first is the classic swype upward from the navigation bar, the second is through one swype to left starting with the last homescreen left.
Google Search, instead, you can start by saying "Ok Google" directly from the homescreen.
As we see, then, Android 4.4 KitKat should always be in mode "always listening" , just like the Moto X, and the function may be extended to other languages besides English.

Google hangouts

Google Hangouts has settings that affect the sending and receiving of SMS , but our informant could not test this feature. So there is a high possibility that Google Hangouts with Android 4.4 KitKat allows us to send and receive messages even when you do not have a network connection.

Display, color and boot animation

One thing I've noticed is the screen really bright, vivid colors.
This we see ourselves as in the figures a little higher. Colors of the display are really very beautiful and the display is very bright in general . Also confirmed the new bootanimation, at least for now: should be the same as that of the devices on board Google Edition (Samsung Galaxy S4 and HTC One).

Speed and Smooth

In addition to being much lighter in weight, it is also much faster than the Nexus 4.
Snapdragon 800 and 2 GB of RAM give you the best with Android 4.4 KitKat. Despite the build still suffers of some bug, is nevertheless fast and Smoothly .
Android 4.4 KitKat, in any case, it seems to be a version of Android much lightened, and this definitely helps performance.

Audio

The audio quality is good, the volume is more or less like that of the Nexus 4, maybe slightly higher. The dual speaker seems to give a good feeling, not like HTC One but something similar.
Acknowledged, then, the two stereo speakers that are located on the bottom edge of the smartphone and the very good audio quality.

Unfortunately we could not provide details on battery life as there are too many elements that come into play and that does not give us a good idea of how tough a single charge.

Camera

There seems to be an image stabilization system, which helps a lot when we hand shaking during shooting. I do not know if it is an optical image stabilization (OIS in this case) or digital. The fact is that it works very well. The quality should not differ from that of the Nexus 4 so blatantly.
Our informant confirms the excellent image stabilization , which as we know is optical.

Therefore, the height of your current thoughts, are you satisfied with Android 4.4 and Nexus KitKat 5 (Nexus 4, 2013)? Of course stay glued on TuttoAndroid as soon as we have more information I will provide the good time. We remind you that you can also follow us on social on: Facebook , Twitter and Google Plus .

Hmm... Larger, flatter icons (iOS 7 style) with more pastels being used. Samsung like dots separating "pages" of the homescreen at the bottom of the launcher page, rather than a flat line like before.

Looks pretty good, even if its influences are obvious as heck!

Good! Wireless charging is my favorite feature of my DNA. I'm really really surprised more phones aren't on board.
