Good! Wireless charging is my favorite feature of my DNA. I'm really really surprised more phones aren't on board.

It's more or less because no one wants to agree on a standard so they don't want to support it. Plus, the fact is that it's a money grab move for some companies (VZW).... They pay to make it an exclusive feature on their network (HTC 8X) and force the company to give other carriers the shaft.

Those who haven't had a wirelessly charged device don't understand, thus demand is low.

That's the only explanation I can come up with.

I'm on my third now (Palm Pre, Nexus 4, GS4) and at this point it's a requirement.

It's interesting to note that Google sacrifices battery size by adding wireless charging? The coils make the device thicker. For the GS4 to have wireless charging, a different cover needs to put on that adds thickness.

I never found it that great on my touchpad. You have to sit it in a certain place anyway, it didn't seem to make a massive difference if that was on a cradle or plugged in to me.

It would be nice if there was a way to do without ports totally on a phone and have it sealed but as its got the ports anyway...

On a ten inch tablet it's less convenient for sure. But it's great for phones, and I actually manage to keep the new Nexus 7 charged whereas the last one always died on my coffee table.

To me it's a requirement for phones, nice to have in 7" tablets, and I don't really care for 10" devices.

Yeah, theres no real downside to it so it would be nice if they included it in all phones as standard I suppose.

I just don't find it that much hassle to plug it in when I go to bed. :sneaky:

In the traslation, it mentioned something regarding always listening feature (similar to Moto X). That is fantastic!

It's a gimmicky feature.
I think awake is if the screen is on for any reason, the device is transmitting data over WiFi or cellular networks, or music is being played (even with the screen off) on the device.

What will skew the results the most is listening to music with the screen off, especially if it's local to the device.

I am not surprised by your response. BTW I think TouchID is more gimmicky than this. Sorry to hurt your feeling again.

I love the always listening feature. I find it incredibly convenient for someone who like to drive without touching the phone. I hate anything "touch activated" in a car environment.

That's because Samsung doesn't know how to create anything, or they're brilliant and charging people for more whilst making people buy different cases for the different size of the phone.

Anyway, if you look at the example I gave you, the 8X by HTC. It has the exact same thickness as its non-wireless counterpart. Also, you don't really need coils either. If you look on eBay, you'll find wireless charging kits that are essentially taped pieces of copper or such add wireless charging to any device that has the ability to begin with.

I would like to use wireless charging but those charging pads are freaking expensive. Micro-USB cables are like a dollar or two..

Adding a feature is not nearly the same thing as engineering it in. (I thought about using an analogy here... But I was overwhelmed at the possibilities. )

I just don't find it that much hassle to plug it in when I go to bed. :sneaky:
I doubt anyone would argue that plugging in a phone is difficult. But picture this... My phone is sitting on the charging pad. It rings, I pick it up, use it, and set it back down, without having to deal with a cord. I know it seems like no big hassle, but it is really nice once you get used to it.

I guess, but I tend to only need to charge my phone up at night anyway.

I'm not knocking it, if the whole kit was supplied with the phone I'd probably use it but I don't want it enough to pay for it.

Just picked-up the LG Wireless Charging Pad I linked earlier. My N4 is charging up. And this charging pad is nice and much better than the Google Orb for two-thirds the cost. It's much smaller and flat. May pick-up another b/c it nice not to have to deal with a cord.

Also, ordered a replacement micro-USB port/card for the N4 which appears to be pretty easy to replace.

http://mobilesyrup.com/2013/10/11/nexus-5-now-rumoured-to-be-announced-on-october-15th/

The latest round of fresh Nexus 5 rumours coming out of the web is that Google will officially announce the Nexus 5, plus show all the finer details of Android OS 4.4 Kit Kit, on Tuesday, October 15th – not the 14th as previously rumoured. The date comes from a bunch of devs in-the-know who’ll be attending the European 2-week start-up boot camp called ‘Google Launchpad.’

The specs of the Nexus 5, according to the FCC filing, shows Google’s next pure Android smartphone will sport a 4.96-inch display, 2,300mAh battery, 2GB of RAM, 16-32GB of internal storage, LTE connectivity, 13MP rear camera and a 2MP front-facing camera. In addition, the price of the Nexus 5 is heavily rumoured to coming in the $299 outright once again, possibly available through carriers and Google Play.

Update: The ‘LG-D821′ is the model number of the Nexus 5 and it’s just received Bluetooth Certification – which just adds fuel to the rumoured announcement next week.

I wouldn't move away from wireless charging. Love it on my N4 and N7.
Qi seems to be the standard, and nothing else is gonna replace it for a while.

Announced on the 15th, wonder when it will ship. Knowing Google <1 week I expect. Sounds good. Cash is waiting.

I really hope Google's servers can handle the load because I'll be disappointed if I can't get one on first run.

This looks real enough.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ksOJl0PDDg

Side bezels are thicker than I anticipated. Look just about the same as they are on the N4. Considering the N4 is 15:9 (1280x768 instead of 1280x720), the display got taller (1920x1080) but not much wider, if at all.

Edit: As you can see from the video, one thing that I don't like about soft-touch back is that it gets dirty and shows wear/tear over time. And you can't easily clean it off unlike on glass surface. Hard to find a "skin" that sticks.. But I am glad its convexed-ness is minimal.

Edit 2: Is it me or the interface (fonts and icons) got bigger on default launcher?

If true, then Google can shut up and take my money.
