From the leaked video hands on, it looks like it will not inherit the curved glass edges from the front of the Nexus 4 and the G2. I felt that was one of the standout features of the N4. I'm sad to see it go.

I saw this pop up in my search: http://www.businessweek.com/news/20...ble-as-reviews-halted-by-u-dot-s-dot-shutdown

Device makers such as Google Inc. (GOOG:US) may have to delay introductions of new smartphones and other products because the partial U.S. government shutdown halted certifications that the gadgets don’t cause interference.

Which makes basically zero sense. Why would Google be pushing the Nexus through FCC certs now instead of months ago? There is probably a warehouse full of completed new Nexus devices somewhere in the world right now.

FCC certs might take time to get... and when you change components, you might be forced to go through the process again

there has been leaks from the FCC cert for Nexus 5, so I assume that N5 should be fine

Yeah, I suspect it was never true. Nobody ever got invites for it and it seems a tad odd they wouldn't actually hold an event for this.

Perhaps it's being announced in Hawaii, they still have almost 11 hours of day left.

I think that's kind of interesting. They'll revise the Nexus 4 and keep it around at the $300 price point with 16GB and LTE. And then introduce the higher end Nexus 5 at $400 with 16GB.

I think it sounds good. Nexus 5 at $400/450 still looks like a great value and the Nexus 4 value increased a bit with LTE and more storage. Since LG makes both, it would be cool if LG updated the Nexus 4 design so it looks like a smaller version of the Nexus 5. Or at least get rid of that glass back.

That sounds like another one of those Android websites that spreads rumors to generate page hits like I described earlier.
Because they saw Android 4.4 leaks running on a Nexus 4, they claim there will be another Nexus 4 with official LTE support? Sounds like hogwash to me.

That website sounds like another BGR.
I wouldn't put much faith in their claims. Not enough facts, too many speculations, and no cited sources besides some mystical person referred to as a "Google" insider.

i find it hard to believe they would reissue a phone that they just cleared out, esp one with a number of problems, like last years crappy battery life, a glass backing, no lte on the original model etc... it would just be better to let that thing die. if they arent selling to make money anyway that sort of defeats the purpose of coming out with a new version of the old phone. youd have a lot of irritated people also, who spent money on the nexus 4 at a time when they clearly could have released it with lte in the first place.

my best guess is that theyve canceled the nexus 5 entirely and will try to redirect buyers to their loser moto x phone

no lte on the original model etc...

http://www.anandtech.com/show/6474/nexus-4-includes-support-for-lte-on-band-4-aws

The original nexus 4 did have lte on band 4 it had both the hardware and the software to do lte on band 4. They later on removed lte from the software for they never got the licensing from the FCC, and not getting approval to use radial frequencies is a big legal no no in the US.

The original nexus also had the necessary hardware for lte on band 1 and 2 as well but lacked the software to use those bands. None of the big 4 phone providers use bands 1 and 2 currently, so there is really no need for those two bands. Band 4 on the other hand is the only band currently being used by T-Mobile and AT&T and Verizon are starting to use Band 4 in some markets (Verizon actually started using band 4 this week)

In theory if the hardware is the same and the nexus 4 gets FCC approval they can allow the old nexus 4 devices to get lte with a software update.

Then again the nexus 4 if it is reissued may have different hardware with different band support. T-Mobile currently only uses band 4, but AT&T uses bands 4, 17, 29, and 30.

to market it as a verizon or att phone theyd have to support the whole network which would require a revised phone right, which would probably pix a lot of earlier buyers off

Aye.
My N4 is using LTE now with T-Mo, but getting official multi-carrier support would be nice. snapdragon 800, voice commands, LTE, better battery life. The N5 is a decent upgrade.

I hesitate to call anything a game-changing upgrade at this point.

Small sidetrack but how do these bands work? It doesn't seem to refer to frequency since the 2600Mhz frequency has a number of different "bands". How do you truly get a phone that works around the world? Sweden for example is on band 7 on 2600Mhz, 20 on 800Mhz (I didn't even know LTE was on 800Mhz), and a few other ones. The US is listed as none of those.

You don't. You can get phones that work in the majority of locations but not all.

Well I see that there are some outlier frequencies but how about something as simple as LTE between Europe and the US.

This is it? I see 12 so I assume with your time difference that is the one you're referring to. You could make the same kind of guess from some of the other posts though.

Yep, that's the post.

Also, I know. It could mean anything, and honestly, I'm not worried. My Nexus 4 is plenty fun for me right now. I really want the Nexus 5 to be unveiled with KitKat soooooooooo bad it's ridiculous.

SDK release (for all the app side stuff like the SMS handling changes) is more likely.

10/15 date was a recent rumor. What I had heard/read somewhere was 11/14. (a rumor from weeks ago)

Selling the Nexus 4 alongside with the Nexus 5 doesn't make sense to me for the two devices share similar portability. The two even share similar physical shapes from the leaks I have seen. I will give that 2% chance of happening only because I can never say never. But I just don't see that happening.

$400 for the base model is likewise a baseless speculation, and one that seems to me exceedingly unlikely. I mean, it is not difficult to pick a number around $300, $350, $400 and claim "I've heard of it." Personally, $400 and above prices are encroaching too close to regular unsubsidized prices of mid-to-high end phones.
