Crazy how N5 is so much better with macro but then on normal shot falls flat.

They must've polled Asian girls who said they want macro shots of their food. But honestly, I don't see where the N5 falls flat on normal shots. Do you have any other photos showing that?

What kind of release is this? No prior invites and just random middle of the day launch? I didn't even know N5 was released today til I got home and read the forum. I guess this is one way to prevent the awful Google Playstore servers from crashing.

I'm not too happy with the price of the phone. It's too expensive. And 4.4 KitKat seems pretty underwhelming based on the features reading. How can Galaxy Nexus not get 4.4 KitKat update? I thought the whole point of KitKat was it can run on devices with low memory and low specs? This is straight from the Google page:

Building a platform that makes mobile phones accessible for everyone has always been at the heart of Android. Until now, some lower-end Android phones couldn't benefit from more recent Android releases due to memory constraints. With KitKat, we've slimmed down Android’s memory footprint by doing things like removing unnecessary background services and reducing the memory consumption of features that you use all the time. We did this not only within Android but across Google services like Chrome and YouTube. RAM (or memory) is one of the most expensive parts of a phone, and now Android can run comfortably on the 512MB of RAM devices that are popular in much of the world, bringing the latest goodies in Android 4.4 within reach for the next billion smartphone users.

It sounds like Galaxy Nexus could benefit from 4.4 KitKat. So Galaxy Nexus basically got one update, JellyBean. So much for direct Google update.

OMAP. Blame TI.

Yup

There's still no official word on why this is the case, but sources close to the company have pointed the finger at a different hardware issue on the Galaxy Nexus: its Texas Instruments-built chipset. The company is out of the mobile business and as such isn't in a great position to give the support necessary for continuing OS upgrades -- presumably some of those 1,700 employees let go in the shift away from mobile could have helped. Now we'll have to see if the community can pick up where the corporations left off or if this is the end of the road for the Gnex and its other OMAP-based kin like last year's Kindle Fire HD, Nook HD and Droid Bionic.

And THIS was why I was against choosing TI for the GNex. Which other popular phone even used TI back then? Motorola Droid Razr was the only one I could think of.... lol.
You forgot the Bionic.... but to be fair, so did everyone else.

Well, I suppose it's a subjective taste so I have to disagree and leave it there. I think it looks a bit off with black and white stuck together.

When I went to order at around 3 (just getting to lunch at work) and only the 32GB White version was showing "Ships in 1-2 days," but I held off for a few minutes because I don't want/need 32GB storage. Glad I did because the black 16gb came up showing "Ships by Nov. 8th," and I bought that one instead.

I think it would look much better if the side bezel was white as well, but you're right it looks off with only the back cover being white.

You like having a battery pack dangling from your phone when you make phone calls? Okay then....

I just came from work and it looks like I didn't miss much of anything.
I've been out of the house since 8am this morning and just got back home around 10:30pm.

As for the Nexus 5, it looks like there is still plenty of stock right now so I'm not too eager to click the order button just yet.
32GB Black(which is what I want) has an estimated delivery date of 2-3 weeks.
I might as well wait for a review and also wait for people on XDA to settle on which case is the best/recommended.

I will continue to monitor the inventory levels closely and should it change to 4-5 weeks or 5-6 weeks latest, I will consider pulling the trigger.
I want the phone by December 23rd, so I'm targeting a ship date of December 16-18th.

You don't need to connect it permanently. If I'm out on a long day starting 9am for example on vacation, perhaps I can top off during lunch for an hour or whatever. It doesn't mean you have to be permanently connected and you can disconnect the charging whenever you want.

I think the point was the big players at that time, the GS2, HTC Sensation which were selling far more than the Bionic and Nook HD were non TI OMAP based. Whatever Google's reason for choosing TI is... well whatever. I guess my point is that it would've been nice for Google to have picked some popular SoC at that time (Exynos). It would've helped developers across the board.

I'm probably being a bit selfish because I had a GS2 and would've liked better ROMs. The Nexus S is the reason why you can run 4.3 on a Galaxy S1 today
