Certainly I'll post a bit about it afterward. I think this will be an opportunity to get reacquainted with stock AOSP. I'm on a business trip Tues/Wed so we'll see how this goes. Some people report the units are shipping out of CA, so if that's the case I could get it by Monday if i'm lucky.

What kind of release is this? No prior invites and just random middle of the day launch? I didn't even know N5 was released today til I got home and read the forum. I guess this is one way to prevent the awful Google Playstore servers from crashing.

I'm not too happy with the price of the phone. It's too expensive. And 4.4 KitKat seems pretty underwhelming based on the features reading. How can Galaxy Nexus not get 4.4 KitKat update? I thought the whole point of KitKat was it can run on devices with low memory and low specs? This is straight from the Google page:

It sounds like Galaxy Nexus could benefit from 4.4 KitKat. So Galaxy Nexus basically got one update, JellyBean. So much for direct Google update.

I've always been very critical of the crazy prices manufacturers charge for phones and I think the price of the Nexus 5 is pretty reasonable.

Damn you!!!! My order time is 15 min 18 sec after yours and my order is still pending and says it will ship BY November 5th. Did yours say the same thing ("Pending" and "Ships by November 5th") up until it was changed to shipped?

If they would have had a REAL announcement instead of just kind of sneaking it onto the Play store I might have been on earlier. I only knew about it because I went to Engadget at work and saw the article saying it was already on sale.

Are they really shipping from CA? Somewhere on my order it showed Google's address in Mountain View but I'm pretty sure they don't have a warehouse there. I remember my Nexus 10 shipped from Indiana. Also, just because it is shipping from CA doesn't mean it will be any faster. A lot of times things travel way out of their way because of how packages are routed. Everything from one pickup location might go to one of carrier's major routing hubs before being resorted and sent to the final destination. I live in northern California(Benicia) and I once sent a laptop in for repair. The final destination was southern California(Simi Valley if I remember correctly) and it first went to like Atlanta or someplace in Tennessee because the carrier(don't remember who it was) had a major routing hub there.

I just came from work and it looks like I didn't miss much of anything.
I've been out of the house since 8am this morning and just got back home around 10:30pm.

As for the Nexus 5, it looks like there is still plenty of stock right now so I'm not too eager to click the order button just yet.
32GB Black(which is what I want) has an estimated delivery date of 2-3 weeks.
I might as well wait for a review and also wait for people on XDA to settle on which case is the best/recommended.

I will continue to monitor the inventory levels closely and should it change to 4-5 weeks or 5-6 weeks latest, I will consider pulling the trigger.
I want the phone by December 23rd, so I'm targeting a ship date of December 16-18th.
Bah...I see the time has increased from "2-3 weeks" to "3-4 weeks".
I also see that the 16GB version of both models are OOS now. Prior to my earlier post, both 16GB models had said "3-4 weeks".

I went ahead and pulled the trigger on 32GB Black because I don't want the same OOS issue to happen to me and I'm not sure how long Google will keep going with this(4-5 weeks? 5-6 weeks? etc...or is there a hard cap on a certain number of weeks before they officially mark a phone model as OOS?), even though I won't need the phone until almost a month after that. It will sit there unopened for sometime.

Yes, but 15 minutes is very late. If you're anytime after the first 5 minutes, most of the enthusiasts have already ordered... Remember 15 minutes after the Nexus 4 went on sale, it was already OOS

You like having a battery pack dangling from your phone when you make phone calls? Okay then....

Sometimes, I hold them together when on the phone or surfing. If I'm outside, walking around, they're in my pocket charging and if I need it unplug it. It's really not that inconvenient. Heck, you can find some that as small as a lighter.

But carrying those SUCKS. Have you ever tried to fit one of those in your pocket? Not comfortable at all.

Do it all the time when I'm outdoors. When I'm walking my dogs or hanging out at the dog park, just browsing, it'll be down 30% in a short time. I pull it out plug it in and hold them sandwiched together with the battery pack obviously under the phone. I can still browse while it charges up.

Tracking number hasn't gone into UPS' system yet. Last year with the N4 my phone arrived the following morning. Be interesting to see if this one does too (and I don't want to wait over the weekend!)

Someone said so on Reddit earlier this afternoon. Those were the guys who got shipping confirmations around 4-5pm (PDT). But maybe you're right and they saw Google's address and got excited not knowing that's just Google's HQ.

I also understand what you mean regarding 2 day shipping sometimes routes through the main hub. Yeah, a lot of times that happens. My iPad went from SZ => HK => Anchorage => Tennessee => San Francisco. Heh. But they did it all in 2 days! I'm tempted to believe that UPS has better setups though around locally. I remember my Newegg stuff just ships up pretty quickly, and sometimes they just truck it up since it's a day's worth of driving anyway. Who knows.

I'm just trying to be hopeful that I get my phone soon

I didn't know you could get SIMs at Walmart. If you can, then yeah, you just need to pop it into the phone and you should be good to go. (The phone uses a micro-SIM)

The Nexus 4 does not have an LTE radio. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but the Nexus 5 is the first Nexus phone with LTE support.

I do consider myself an enthusiasts. There had been an actual announcement that actually gave a decent amount of prior notice I would have been there right away. Instead it was "Hey Nexus 5 is on sale NOW! Surprise!". I just happened to go to Engadget that had a top story that it was on sale. Either way my order says it will ship by November 5th at the latest. Probably tomorrow. I just really hope the battery life is acceptable. If it isn't I'll be returning it or selling it on eBay/Craigslist. I really hope it doesn't come to that. If it does I'll get a Moto X or the G2 and it's awesome battery life and just put up with their crap software.

Do you know if the Nexus 5 got the GRAM that the G2 has? I couldn't tell from the leaked service manual but it didn't look like it.

Is there a phone that has LTE for both Europe and the USA? Anything?!

There is no such a thing right now. There isn't even an LTE phone compatible with all countries in Europe, they will all need to fall back to GSM

LTE isn't uniform all over Europe but phones like the iphone and S4 will cover pretty much everything. I can even use them in parts of Asia and Africa.

I don't like having multiple phones and I travel all over the place so this is a pain in the ass watching another phone get released with very limited LTE bands.

What's the hold up on getting a phone that works with the Americas and the rest of the world?

3G or HSPA+ is plenty fast.
