That's the speculative answer, the Google answer was more like: we update phones for 18 months... deal with it.

I'm interested to see what happens regarding Sprint MVNOs like Ting. This seems like an ideal "cross-platform" non-contract phone. Since it is both CDMA and GSM, I could perhaps take it between services as I see fit whenever I feel I have the best deal.

Sorry to hear that the GNex will not get 4.4.

My GF has the N4 and it's just...fine...but doesn't seem like a big deal to me. $350 is not a lot to spend on a N5 but I think I'll sit it out for now.

He was commenting on how it "Has to do with TI mobile going out of business" was speculative, while the official reason from Google is because it's past 18-months.

He was pointing out that the reason was speculative, not the verdict on GNex 4.4.

It does seem a likely reason though considering how long other devices have been updated (Xoom anyone?).

I think he was talking about the reason being it having a TI processor was speculative.

It had a good 2 year run with the latest version of Android. I think that is pretty good though.

For those who get the Nexus 5, can ya'll report back and let me know how it handles concert level audio? I love my Nexus 4, but I can't record the audio and appreciate it later (no - I'm not focused on the recording, I'm very much enjoying the concert ) because it clips resulting in a lot of garbage.

My friends with Iphones can EASILY do this; clearly there is a.."high impedance microphone" (or you mechanically inclined people, a speaker that acts like a very stiff spring) that they switch to once they detect that the voltage coming from the speaker has saturated and is clipping. Concerts sound great on their phones.

If the Nexus 5 has this, I'd totally upgrade even if I think the Nexus4 looks 1000x sexier and is still smooth for me.

I ordered at 11:32am PT. So far not even a tracking number yet. It sounds like people that ordered right away at 11am-ish did get tracking numbers and shipped around. So far I haven't heard of any people ordering after me getting tracking numbers, like last year. So it appears that are shipping in order this time.

Not necessarily, I ordered at 11:04 am Pacific and haven't gotten anything...but I've seen folks with orders from 11:06 and onward posting shipment emails. :|

Okay, so far they are not shipping orders severely out of order. Last year I ordered like a couple minutes after orders opened, and people that ordered hours after me got shipped first.

It's all random as far as I can see. I did order the case as well. Shows pre-order for the case, though, but was in stock when I ordered.

Could be based on geography or something. Perhaps it's based on a pick up time for the couriers - that is, the trucks would go straight from the warehouse to an appropriate distribution centre instead of a pickup then back to the nearest distribution centre then to the appropriate distribution centre. Of course, this can't be the case across the board, due to geography.

Edit: still nothing for me. 2:08.05 EDT time stamp, but Canada.

Do you need a special SIM to get LTE? I ordered a 32gb one (won't ship until the 8th ) and I currently have a G Nexus. I know I'll at least have to cut the SIM. I use T-mobile.

For those ordering direct from Google, one thing to avoid is making changes to the payment method on your account prior to placing an order. I did this on a previous order with them and it triggered a 2-3 day security hold on the order. This isn't immediately apparent on the website, where the status is shown as a generic "processing" message. But when I called in to ask about the delay, the rep informed me what caused it.

It's not just the smart dialer. What's being featured is the fact that the guy doesn't have "Little Italy Pizza" in his address book. The dialer is integrated with the map. If you look closely it is listed under 'nearby places'. It just happens to be the closest pizza place from his location.

Ugh. Hopefully that can be disabled for those who aren't interested in seeing ads for the nearest local businesses.

I got shipping confirmation this morning as well. Placed the order at 2:08:35 PM EDT, shipping time was listed as by Nov 5th.

My order time was 11:17 PDT. I also have the "Shipping by November 5th" and a "Pending" status. If you got your shipping confirmation this morning I'm hoping for one by the end of the day. People were getting confirmation emails as late as 10pm PDT last night.
