I impulse bought one... 1:45 pacific time and got notification it shipped last night.

I really like my moto X I just bought a bought a month ago, but I have a draw to the nexus line. the hardware doesn't do much for me, but I like some of the kit kat features. I really thought the voice control would be cool, but I come to find out it only works when the device is unlocked and possible only from the home screen or google now screen. Then the other thing is, it isn't setup for just "my" voice and anyone could use the feature from across the room. probably not a huge deal, but I think it is bad design.

what I think is significant is the hangouts controlling SMS and MMS... I believe this will simplify things for people on prepaids like straight talk that have issue with MMS.

Not sure if I'll end up using it or having this replace my wifes S4, but either way the entry price was worth giving it a shot.

I suggest you ignore anyone who consistently has trouble spelling, especially in the days of embedded spell check everywhere. The N5 isn't being released on Verizon.

Deliberately misspelling is his "thing" and, yes, it's getting very thin.

On the Moto X? Voice control will trigger even if the phone is locked - but you have to unlock before it will execute the command. This is good design from a security perspective.

I'm surprised at how many of you are getting this before waiting for a decent review.

I'm not surprised (or buying one). Blind faith is not just restricted to people who buy Apple products.

For anyone who knows what the specs mean and a little manufacturer history the specs have been a pretty accurate way of predicting what the device experience is going to be like for years. I'm completely blown away by the fact that there are people who expected the phone to have good battery life.

The Gmail confirmation says my order was placed on 2:38:05 PM (EDT) which is 11:38:05 AM (PDT). It still shows "pending" with shipping estimated by 11/8.

I'm not too happy with the price of the phone. It's too expensive. And 4.4 KitKat seems pretty underwhelming based on the features reading. How can Galaxy Nexus not get 4.4 KitKat update? I thought the whole point of KitKat was it can run on devices with low memory and low specs?
I definitely get the sentiment. The reality is that lots of people pay $200 for flagship phones from major OEMs. While I do not like this system at all and wish there were a much bigger freedom for consumers on mobile devices/services, but there are not many people who will pony up $600~700 for a flagship phone for outright ownership. So when carrier subsidies come into play on the other side, $350~$400 for independence is not necessarily cheap, and personally it is at an upper bound for me as well. Any higher than that, I might have a trouble justifying it. And I wish Google had challenged the silly game that OEMs play with NAND storages by offering 32 GB as the bottom line. (Gotta give a nod to HTC One)

What kind of release is this? No prior invites and just random middle of the day launch? I didn't even know N5 was released today til I got home and read the forum. I guess this is one way to prevent the awful Google Playstore servers from crashing.

This I disagree with. It has become getting tiresome to read reviews that are concerted by OEMs. I do not want to delve into what "reviews" have become these days, but I like that Google did not try to massage the press unlike some other OEMs.

Brian Klug is the guy who does the phone reviews for Anandtech. And according to his twitter N5 does have GRAM

It also has Qualcommms new envelope tracker (Note 3 also has it) that makes LTE run 30% cooler and draws 20% less power

The Qualcomm envelope tracker is nice but if the Nexus 5 really does have the GRAM that is better news. The 5" 1080p IPS LCD is the biggest power hog of the phone and part of that is due to the GPU having to constantly render all of those 2 million pixels several times a second. With the GRAM, audio tunneling, envelope tracker, general improvements to the Snapdragon 800 and power usage improvements to Android 4.4 the Nexus 5 might have pretty decent battery life despite the pathetically small 2,300mAh batter. I'd really hate to have to sell mine just because of battery life issues. I really hope it meets my criteria of acceptable battery life.

Also, is there any link to that statement? Maybe a source from the twitter statement? I'd really like to confirm this.

Oh, so "varizin" = Verizon? Yeah, I knew it wasn't going to be on Verizon. That's been known for quite a while now.

Got my shipping confirmation last night, should be here Tuesday. Can't wait. Ordered a couple Spigen cases, interested to hear from anyone else about cases once the phones start arriving.

Not too concerned about battery life. If it can get from 7 am to 10pm on my typical usage, I'll be fine. My gnex can most of the time and it has a much smaller battery. Of course, LTE and 1080p will make a difference but I'm not expecting to be disappointed here.

7am to 10pm is 15 hours. I can accept that. What it really comes down to is what you consider to be "typical usage". The biggest power usage is the screen and indirectly the GPU so screen on time is what will really make an impact. If I can get 4 hours screen on time over that 15 hours off charger I can accept that and I'll keep mine instead of selling it.

My current phone(Galaxy SII Skyrocket) gets about 12 hours with about 1.5 hours screen on time and the screen is a 4.5" 480x800 AMOLED so it(and the GPU) uses far less power than the Nexus 5 screen and GPU uses and the battery on the Nexus 5 is only 450mAh more than I have now. That is what has me worried.

the moto X works great. the new nexus device will only work from home screen and isn't setup for just my voice like the moto X is

Changed my delivery to Will-Call pick-up at the local UPS hub, so I can get it first thing Tuesday morning.

Since I'm so close to the hub (10 min drive), lately UPS hasn't been showing up until well after 5PM. I'm off Tuesday, so it makes more sense to drive over there at 9am instead of waiting till evening.

The camera is looking very good this time around, unlike Nexus 4 which was underwhelming.

It seems to work fine for me. It's possible that you won't be able to add since you are in a different region. Otherwise it might be your browser.
Can you remote desktop or tunnel in to make an order?
