To be honest ... i'd almost want a MotoX instead. Only reason i bought a N5 over a MotoX is price.

dont believe the obvious lies, s800 is loads faster than what is in motox, and that is immediately apparent when you pick up the phones

Also, the latest Anandtech battery tests show that the nexus 5 beats moto x battery lifs

Got mine as well. Sweet sleek and beautiful phone. Not sure what the people were smoking when they said that it has sharp edges. The power button and volume rockers are a bit sharp but since they're ceramic, I guess that's how it is. Doesn't bother me at all though.
My phone is plugged in all day to my computer so the battery concerns are moot especially when the phone isn't that bad at battery consumption.

OK I've been using my N5 only since last night, but already I have a ton of impressions. This is a super impressive phone for $349/399. Anyone who thinks this is a 'bad' phone for the price needs to get their head checked -- it's mainly because it does so many things right that it's easy to pick nits with it - there's a ton of imperfections, but overall it's so overwhelmingly positive.

Good:

-Phone feels nice in the hand. Soft touch back feels great, just like on the N7. It's much more grippy than the back on my Galaxy S3, which is like holding an eel. Yeah, the Nexus 5's soft touch back will show grease -- if you plan on using your phone with disgusting greasy hands, get a case or cover for it!!
-Screen is beautiful, text is razor sharp! Color calibration is neutral (unlike my uber blue/saturated Galaxy S3). Very readable in high and low light. Can appear a tiny bit washed out in certain light settings, but it's so crisp and clear I'd take this over AMOLED anyday. Blows the SGS3 screen out of the water. Probably a closer fight with the more neutrally calibrated SGS4.
-Idle battery life so far is impressive. It's in the high 90's after using it first thing in the morning for a bit then letting it sit idle, where my SGS3 would be in the high 80's at this point.
-Very very responsive phone! I can't stress enough how much faster it is than an SGS3 and how little it lags! The phone, with its Qualcomm S800 is incredibly fast and responsive. After your first couple of boots (which seem to take forever), the thing boots up in seconds. The only app with visible lag is the camera app, which is mainly when you launch it (and even moreso when you launch it from the lock screen). Again, this is picking nits, and the lag is like 2-3 seconds max, and only stands out because everything else is so speedy.
-I haven't gamed extensively on this thing yet, but in general it seems to get much less warm then many Qualcomm S600 series phones.
-Qi charging works great. I've got an LG WCP-300 by my bed, and it works flawlessly with the phone, and charges pretty fast too.
-Side bezels are nice and small.

Neutral:

-Ceramic buttons aren't better or worse for me, just different. They are definitely "sharper", but to imply you could ever cut yourself on them is madness. They aren't sharp! Just a different materials choice over plastic. They are easy to feel.
-Not enough apps take advantage of full screen mode - it's basically Google Play books, Youtube, home screen (sorta), and possibly a couple others. I'd love for Kindle/most games to use it. Hopefully developers take notice.
-Speaker on the phone (the one at the bottom) is meh. Sound quality is mediocre, max volume is mediocre.
-Headphone volume & quality is fine - virtually identical to my Samsung Galaxy S3, which was considered good in its day.
-I'd envisage a world where they could shave almost 1cm off the bottom and 0.5cm off the top of the phone's bezels to make the phone more compact. For my hands, the phone is ever so slightly too tall. Shrinking the top and bottom bezels more would make it perfect. Because of this, I like the Moto X's in-hand size better than the Nexus 5 (however I'm willing to put up with it for a bigger/better screen).
-The camera is pretty good, OIS is seamless and rocks (you basically don't take blurry shots anymore - with my SGS3, I'd have to take 3 pictures everytime to ensure I got one that wasn't blurry). However, you do need to use the HDR mode to avoid getting washed out daylight pictures. The sensor is capable of good shots, so I'm hoping for a Moto X-esque firmware patch that improves the default camera settings at some point in the future.

"Bad"

-Not necessarily bad, per se, but we've been spoiled by the nice chamfered edges on the iPhone 5/5S, and the rubberized edge of the Nexus 4. The squared off corners of the Nexus 5 again aren't "sharp", but just less comfortable to hold than rounded/rubberized/chamfered edges.
-Plastic doesn't feel bad in the hand at all, but doesn't feel premium like an iPhone 4/5 or Nexus 4. Conversely, though, the back won't break like on an iPhone 4 or Nexus 4, so I can see why they are going with plastic over glass.
-Very very minor backlight bleed in the 4 corners (mainly the bottom ones) that's only noticeable on an all-black background, like during bootup. It only struck me because I booted it in a dark room, an because I'm so used to AMOLED, which has no backlight bleed.

God the Nexus 5 backlight management is awful, it's all over the place. I think it's actually given me a tan.

Yeah I just leave mine on about 30-40% all the time, or the "half" setting on my Power Toggles widget. usually the Auto setting is fine, but occasionally it's too dark.

Most washed-out color looks to be red. Nonetheless, a gorgeous screen .

@jiffylube1024: I am right there with your assessment for the most part. Great summation.

I think the reason why it doesn't feel too premium has to do with the build quality, rather than the materials used. Volume/power buttons rattling is by now well known, SIM tray not being 100% flush, and the back lid not being as tight. You can see the gap narrowing if you squeeze/press the back against the front.

Edit: Oh and the micro-USB port locking is not as tight as it used to be with the Nexus 4.

I was playing with a Nexus 5 in a Sprint store today(mine doesn't come until Monday) and I couldn't find where I could choose to show/hide my own number when calling out. On my current phone(Galaxy S II) I can open the phone app and go to Menu > Call Settings > Additional Settings > Caller ID and I got the choices of "Network Default", "Hide Number" and "Show Number". I remember this being in stock Android in Gingerbread but haven't had a Nexus phone since the Nexus One. Did Google remove this setting from stock Android?

Also, does anyone using the Nexus 5 on AT&T know if the Visual Voicemail app works? I have the APK downloaded and ready to install once I get my Nexus 5 and I'd like to know if anyone has tried it. I'll be glad to be rid of most of the AT&T bloatware but the Visual Voicemail (and myAT&T) are nice. I'd hate to loose them.

Well digital zoom is exactly the same as zooming in on the image afterwards in the gallery so you can still do that.

/facepalm Yes, I want to have to do more work now.

Thankfully, rumor has it that it's going to be put back in with the software update.

This whole color accuracy thing has always bugged me. It just seems like someone decided what they thought was "accurate" in terms of color and established that as the ideal baseline. Now all screens use that baseline as "accurate" and try to get as close as possible.

I don't know what those "professionals" think the word "accurate" means or what they are comparing it to but it sure isn't comparing to what is realistic and what we would see with our own eyes in nature.

Take the color red for example. Red should be RED. It shouldn't be washed out. It shouldn't look faded. If it does it isn't "accurate". Earlier in this thread there is a side by side image of the Nexus 5 and Galaxy S4 on theverge.com loaded. In the picture a red Marvel log is seen. Even from the picture it is easy to tell that the red on the Nexus 5 looks very washed out and the Galaxy S4 actually looks RED.

Red on an AMOLED screen is like a brand new red shirt and LCD is like a red shirt that has been washed a hundred times and is now faded.

People can say AMOLED doesn't meet their definition of "accurate" but AMOLED is more REALISTIC. AMOLED also has better contrast, black levels, power usage and NO LIGHT BLEED.

If my Nexus 5(gets here tomorrow) looks as good or better than my Nexus 10 it will easily be acceptable but I sure will miss the AMOLED screen on my Galaxy SII which is the ONLY thing I will miss.

Also, turning the back light down shouldn't make any difference of how "accurate" and realistic it looks.

If you calibrate an IPS screen the red is actually quite punchy. I have a calibrated N4 next to my N5 and all the colors are deeper. It's not saturation though, it's just the whole tone of the screen is changed. Saturation is where you get overblown saturation like AMOLED screens. My N4 screen is Gamma 2.2 across the board. It's beautiful. The iPhone has deep colors too. The N5 just feels washed out. However it's not as badly washed out as the N4 stock screen.

That is the difference. You call it "overblown" but it's actually realistic.

I'm curious how I can calibrate the screen on a phone. Is there anyway to do it without rooting? Rooting is something I have no desire to do.

What you are saying is that human eyes are not limited to sRGB space (or AdobeRGB for that matter), which is obviously a correct statement. When reviews mention color accuracy on mobile space, 99% times they mean sRGB. It is an Industry standard and it matters for communicative reasons. For example, you don't want to receive a pink T-shirt when you ordered a red T-shirt you saw on a screen.

Subjectively, your eyes are limited only to their own capabilities. Thus there is no "correct" color as long as it pleases you.

People can say AMOLED doesn't meet their definition of "accurate" but AMOLED is more REALISTIC. AMOLED also has better contrast, black levels, power usage and NO LIGHT BLEED.

That's it! I couldn't figure out what bothered me on the N5's screen compared to the Note 3's screen (they look equally excellent) and it's the backlight bleeding. Thank you!

BTW, Windows keeps telling me that my N5 is a USB 3.0 device and can perform faster. What is the deal?
