Just bought a Nexus 5 but I'm having battery issues. When I unplugg it overnight at 100% it'll drain itself to nothing in about 10 hours. Is this normal? It says LINE and Wechat uses most of the battery but I only have them installed and not turned on.

Edit: actually it looks like something is keeping the phone awake all the time. How would I go about finding what is doing it?

Problem with Android is that it's incredibly easy for apps to run amok in the background. For example, if you have Reddit News installed on your phone, it will automatically check if you have a new message every 15 minutes. Do you know how battery wasteful that operation is?

As such, look for misbehaving apps.

All apps have a settings menu.. All the user has to do is to select the correct settings for him

Unfortunately, due to the Nexus 5 being manufactured by "LG" and sold by "Google", instead of "Apple", the review has been delayed until the reviewer has stopped jerking off over the iPad mini.
You created a new account just to post that?

I thought the display accuracy would be good, but it being the best Android handset in terms of colour accuracy was quite a surprise. Still, it makes sense; if your Nexus 7 2013 is very accurate, you want your N5 to match it in colours. I know that I bought a calibrator for the specific purpose of making my two monitor screens match.

The 4.4.1 update sounds like just what the camera needs. My N5 takes decent pictures right now, it's just painfully slow.

Well, that "before" Chipolte napkin shot is much closer to the actual Chipolte napkin color. If the shots were taken in daylight, I would say the "after" shot color is way too dramatic. It looks like one of those "low light" shots.

Edit: Oh there are other things not just the napkins.

Yeah I don't know about the new camera. I agree the old colors are washed out and aren't even representative of what the environment is (compare to iPhone 5 or Canon S95), but the new photos look like SAMOLED colors. Maybe a bit too dramatic?

I read the AT's review and I think the review is spot-on, if slightly heavy on the positive sides. IMO it is still amply justifiable. After all, it is impossible to evaluate the Nexus 5 without taking the price in context. Anything it does better than competition gets a point, and anything it falls short on is compensated by the lower price.

Said that, the battery test results methods are somewhat questionable. I am guessing the numbers are higher than my experience because of the way they are measured - especially the fixed brightness and the controlled radios. Under auto-brightness, uneven cellular coverages, and most importantly your Google account that actually moves around Google's radar, those numbers are probably hard to reproduce.

Display results are very nice to look at. The Nexus 5 boasts accurate colors, but somewhat low contrast and high black level, and slightly different red than I am used to. I am happy that the values measured by AT mirror my personal impressions posted earlier in this thread despite my badly nearsighted, contacts-wearing eyes.

I have to say, however, valuing nothing but color accuracy in display seems somewhat myopic () , reminscent of some HDTV intelligentias elevating black-level of Plasma above everything else, or CRT-purists sticking to it for latency advantage. For instance, I find iPhones' (and iPads') display overly reflective and thus distracting but it seems rarely mentioned in the reviews. Color accuracy is a part of a display - an increasinly important part, admittedly, but it is still a part, not the whole. Every chart AT produced deserves to be added in the equation, IMO. In the Nexus 5's case, its low contrast ratio contributes to the perceived lack of clarity, or "pop". To its credit, AT does mention it but kind of buries it as it quite often does when it comes to the Nexus devices.

Which reminds me again, you can't really complain about the Nexus devices if you think about the price tags. Google successfully built a critic-proof platform for itself.

Definitely not normal behaviour - go into the settings for both and see how often they are updating.

I rooted mine as well, disabled some things and run a firewall. I don't worry about the N5's battery life in day-to-day use unless I am going on a trip.

Why is your screenshot so brown-ish? Are you using some sort of color filter?

I'm using Lux on Night mode -- which lowers the color temperature to around 5300K in order to minimize blue spectrum to minimize sleep impact when using at night. (Kind of like f.lux on the PC)

First thing you notice is much warmer whites on the Nexus 5. In the original link below, you can also see the subtle difference a higher PPI makes on text. Even if you don't see pixels in either phones, the text is cleaner on the Nexus 5.

One interesting thing is that the Nexus 4's screen shows more stuff horizontally. Usually letters, one or two more words. I presume it's due to the ratio of resolution. (Nexus 4 is 1280:768, instead of 1280:720) You can see this from AnandTech forum app above, "SSF, Notebooks, Pre-built/Barebone PCs" sub-section label. In other words, the Nexus 4's screen is wider when viewed vertically, and can display more text in a given line than the Nexus 5. This is consistent system-wide. Not sure how much of a big deal this is on ~5" screens, though.

So which screen is better? Nexus 5 by a lot. Only thing the Nexus 4 beats the N5 is contrast, especially darker black.

Wow. I have a Nexus 5 but I didn't own the Nexus 4. The side by side difference in the whites is HUGE. The Nexus 4 has MUCH better whites than the Nexus 5. The Nexus 5's whites look pretty good its own and somewhat better than the whites on my old Galaxy S2's AMOLED screen but damn the Nexus 4 had great whites.

Any reason why my Nexus 5 won't show up in Windows 8? It shows up in device manager, but it doesn't matter if I try MTP or PTP neither shows the Nexus as an accessible device. Attempted to update the driver but it says it's already up to date.

I had a similar issue on Windows 7 when I got my Nexus 5. I think it was an issue with a conflicting driver from my old phone but I'm not sure.

I was able to fix it by plugging in the Nexus 5, uninstalling ALL the associated devices from Device Manager, unplugging the phone and plugging it in again. After that the correct drivers were installed automatically and I was able to access the storage using MTP and PTP.

Last night on Nexus 5 --
-- Stock w/ root, mostly on Wifi, with 3 bump charge (maybe around 1-2% each)

Just curious why that screen shot looks so bad? Seems to be very dim and has a brownish tint to it.

No, that is not normal. It must be some app keeping it awake. Sadly Wakelock Detector doesn't work on KitKat due to some changes to the 4.4 APIs but the battery settings in Android will show you how much your phone is being kept awake and you can select one of the apps on the list and see how long that app kept the phone awake.

Just for some comparison in my experience if I fully charge the phone to 100% and unplug it right before I go to bed it will drop about 5% over the ~7 hours I'm sleeping.

In my experience the stand by time is amazing, the screen on time is ok and combined(my average mix of usage and stand by) it is very acceptable.
