I am so delighted with this stupid thing!
I love LOVE the golf and bowling games. I have never been "into" any game system, but i love this one! It was worth waking up a bit earlier than normal and standing outside to get one!

I need another controller and component cables. Anyone know if Gamecube component cable work with Wii?

Yeah, Nintendo did well at the launch, but they certainly could have done better. The lack of accessories to purchase (Wiimotes, cables, etc) was kind of weird. I thought they would have done better than that.

The Target I went to had 196 Wiimotes + nunchuk, 196 copies of Zelda and 210 Wiis and an unknown amount of classic controllers....thats not too shabby. I think it was luck of the draw honestly

/me frantically clicks on avatar to find poster's whereabouts.

Stupid Michigan.

I might mosey on down to EB Games and Best Buy to see if they have a kiosk set up. I'm in a college town, but Thanksgiving break started so it would be interesting to know whether or not this means high inventories with most of the potential buyers out of town.

Will the Wii letterbox games on a 4:3 TV, or do you need a 16:9 TV for widescreen gaming?

This thing officially rocks!!!
I love basbeall, bowling, and tennis. Boxing is kinda hard to control, and golfing is kinda tough especially in short putts, I cant get the thing to register less than one bar.

After hunting frantically for a Wii with a friend here, wii went online to try and find out who might still have any. Turns out that Brandon mall hosted a midnight launch, and they have BOTH an EBGames and a GameStop, which means TWO stores in the mall had hundreds of extra units for people who didn't preorder. WOOT!

Wii were about a half an hour away from Brandon, so I got my friend and his brother to wait for us at EBG (who had "plenty" in stock when we called them, compared to GameStop's "a couple") for $20. We parked on the end of the mall with the GameStop on accident and ran all the way to the other end, where EBG is. GameStop is an anchor store for Dillards on one end of the mall, EBG is all the way at the other end by I think Sears.

Anyways, by the time we got there and switched out with them in line, there was already an employee counting heads to make sure they had enough stock. Then he pointed at my friend, who was in front of me, and said that they only had enough non preorder Wiis for him and everyone in front of him. CRAP!

I ran ALL THE WAY BACK across the mall to GameStop, got in line behind 5 other people, and got my Wii! There were 7 or 8 people behind me when I left and the employees there assured them they had enough for all of them, and then some. So much for "a couple". Just got my preordered copy of Zelda at our local EB. Wiiiiiiiiiiii!

WTF is going on? I thought they have enough stock for launch? WTF is up with all the shortage?

So when is the next batch gonna come in? After Christmas. If it is, it is bad business on Nintedo part.

There should be regular shipments. You definitely won't be waiting until Christmas.

Supposively by tuesday they'll have another batch in.

There wasnt a shortage. It was just high demand despite stores having LOTS of Wii's

The Target I went to, the one with 210 Wii's was sold out 30 minutes before the store opened. Yea thats right....210 people in line....CRAZY

I think that settles it, ladies & gents.

Nintendo has scored both the male and female markets!

If the Wii has any staying power, I bet it takes the crown for next-gen consoles. 360 second. PS3 third.

Man, the more I play it, the more I am loving Wii sports. There really is a lot more to the games than meets the eye.

Tennis just feels so right. Once you learn how to place shots, it actually does have some depth to it.

Bowling is definitely the best one.

Baseball is definitely growing on me, but the fielding is retarded.

Golf requires finesse...take a lot of practice shots, take the wind into account, etc...its also growing on me.

And although I didnt like boxing at first, once I figured out the controls, I'm really starting to like it. Its not going to emulate the two of you boxing each other perfectly. The first thing to realize is it isnt where you hold the controller in the vertical plane that decides body or head, but how tilted they are.

I hate you...

So it sounds like there's enough depth (with a second player) that sports alone could keep you busy for a while? Assuming I didn't get a game could I be entertained for a while? From your description of the depth it sounds like I may have plenty to keep me occupied with sports without buying a game seperate.

Curious question for folks that have the Wii. I hope to get one soon but who knows when stores will get more in stock again. Surprised that all of the stores in a major metro area such as mine (Denver, CO) really didn't get all that many. In any case, on to the question. I noticed that the Wiimote has a power button on it to turn on and off the console. Does anybody know if it is possible to program a Harmony (659) remote to work that function?

remotes? as in ones that 'compete' with the 'wiimote'? or as in a regular remote, such as one to play movies on?
sony already has one if i recall correctly, for the PS3... for the blu-ray/dvd player, and assumingly for music playback and whatnot.
im not sure if its available for purchase anywhere, as no stores seem to list official 1st party accessories at the moment on their websites, not even the controllers.. so I don't really know.

Yep, I find it to be VERY engrossing. It has a fitness test and a few different trials to base yourself, plus every game you play rates you. I love it.

Lets put it this way...I havent had a friend over yet, and I havent even taken the wrapper off of zelda.

I think the reason the reviewers gave it mediocre reviews is because they didnt really play it like it was supposed to be played. Sure, you can just flick the controller, but it really is a million times more satisfying and fun to stand up and get into it. The bowling really is spot on perfect too, and its VERY hard to get a strike.

If you are a casual gamer, and especially are going to have friends over, it can keep you occupied for a long time. I get the feeling its going to be like tetris was for the original gameboy - a lot of people just bought it for tetris, and never bought another game. It's fun enough that a lot of casual gamers would probably be entirely satisfied if it was the only game the Wii could EVER play.

Does anybody know if it is possible to program a Harmony (659) remote to work that function?

No chance - it powers on and off through bluetooth, not IR. Why would you want to? If youre going to turn it on, you're going to need the wiimote anyway.
