Was in Toronto this weekend, was completely hungover from last night (damn alumni dinner/dance) so decided to go for a breath of fresh air with a buddy of mine. We walked by Future Shop and noticed a line of people; quickly remembered it was Wii launch day; they had 45 and there was about that many waiting outside (9am). Walked up to Best Buy; they had 300 so we decided to get in the massive line and chatted with people for about 1.5hrs; I honestly have no idea why we decided to buy Wii's today...but meh.

We missed the last system by about 3 people so we started walking away disappointed. We made our way to EB Games and they were handing out numbered voucher tickets for Wii with no line. So with absolutely no effort, we got Nintendo Wii's!

I got a Wii, a couple extra controllers (no nunchuks left), Zelda, Red Steel.

We took the system home and had a huge tennis tounament with 4 people. I'm a non-gamer, but I think the system is fun and different. It looks nice on my 32" LCDTV

Just curious, if you're not a gamer, what made you decide to pick it up? Was it just because you happened to be walking buy? Did Nintendo's marketing reach you somehow to show you how it was going to be different?

I didn't follow the marketing; I don't watch tv all that much, i don't game and live in a pretty small town (not exposed to the marketing).

The biggest selling factor was the interaction of the system; being able to move around more and play with a bunch of friends seems cool. Something to do when predrinking (other than poker, etc) or hungover the next day after going out. The system doesn't seem overly involed and genuinely fun

Because no B&M stores have them and won't get any until the 15th of December. You can only get it directly from Nintendo at the moment.

Of course you can get the more expensive Mad Katz version at the B&M stores starting Dec. 2nd.

funny how they put the mario 1up sound everytime they hit it with the sledgehammer

I liked the guy towards the end that told them to go die in a fire.

Yeah, totally had the opposite effect that the 360 smash had (I haven't seen the PS3 one). Playing copy cat and he failed.

Ugh, this system is so Wii-tarded I don't know where to start.

How long do you guys (or gals) expect this system to retain its fun factor? I mean, sure right out the box it's probably fun, but how long will it take before you tire of making goofy hand gestures to make Mr. Link swing a sword?

I'm no fanboy whatsoever, but if I'm to get a system, it will be the PS3. It offers much more for the price than the Wii IMO. (Blu-ray/Visual)

Time will take its toll, however. If Nintendo proves it can make a product designed for longevity and keep the interest of the masses captured, than I will buy one. Until then, Sony's PS3 will remain #1 on my "to buy" list.

You might want to actually play it before you make sweeping generalizations.

I'm a fanboy? Please feel free to bold exactly what in my statement makes me a fanboy.

Using your logic, I will go ahead and declare that you're the fanboy because I entered this thread and merely gave my opinion.

I called MYSELF a fanboy in this thread, dumbass.

I called YOU a fanboy because you're bashing a system you've never played.

You're right though, the PS3 offers more for the price than the Wii - not surprising, because Nintendo is making a profit on the Wii while Sony is taking a ~$300 loss on each PS3 they sell. Thing is, I don't want to spend $600 on a video game system. It doesn't matter if it's a good deal for what I'd pay, it's more than I want to pay. Especially since all that extra money is just buying me nicer graphics and a disc format that Sony is trying to force on the market. To that I and many, many other people say "meh."

I'll buy a PS3 though - eventually. Just like I bought a PS2. And I'll buy an Xbox 360, just like I bought an Xbox. But the PS3 isn't happening until they cut the price in half.

I haven't bought a Wii or an Xbox 360 or a PS3. The last console I bought was a PS2 which I sold on eBay. Videogames have lost a lot of appeal for me over the past five years or so, and I never thought I would buy another console. After watching some videos of the Wii and people playing it, however, I'm really tempted to pick one up. I've been inspired enough to visit the Nintendo site and watch videos of people playing and all I can say is that I'm as excited as I've ever been about a console. It looks like Nintendo is finally asking developers to focus on gameplay rather than stunning visuals... I dunno just looking at the Wii makes me smile!

Anyway, I thought I would drop my 2 cents in here... and maybe drop a few hundred bucks in the future on a Wii.

Everyone has their own choice for a console. Obviously some like one more than the other, that's why there's a choice. I don't see why anyone would come in here trying to bash the Wii or any who own it.
