I just got off the phone with Big N, they're sending me a new sensor bar. They were gonna make me do the advance replacement, but they just sent me one for free, which is good because I cut up my current cord trying to put it back together.

thats good service!

I think it's the fact that they sell it for $10, meaning that it's dirt cheap to manufacture, the wires inside dont even have their own plastic around them. It'll cost them more in shipping than the actual bar.

See, I told you they would probably send you one for free. Nintendo is known for their customer service unlike some company. *cough* Sony *cough*

He asked me if it was plugged in, he said, "This may sound kind of weird, but do you have a camera phone." I said, "I already checked that, and the sensor bar is plugged in," did I tell him that the wire going to the sensor war was cut... maybe not, but I knew all his questions before he asked them.

Then he told me not to use it with my projector because of the "bright lights" which is horse crap because the sensor bar sits below the screen and not in the light.

He did give me some info about the sensitivity, the controls for the sensitivity actually adjust how far away you are from the sensor. The farter away, the greater the sensitivity should be.

EDIT: Component cables are on backorder till the 28th, (I ordered 2 nunchucks, a Wiimote, and the component cables at nintendo.com 2 days ago)

got my wii tonight..

Walked into EB games and bought a copy of zelda off the shelf.

I've been playing tennis and boxing mostly.. fun fun games.

I'm going to be so sore tonight.

Playing on a 65 inch Mitsu widescreen rear projection tv so its really big looking.

I cant imagine playing it on a projector.. that must be totally cool.

It's not horse crap. Those LEDs can put out only so much light, and it pales in comparison to what your TV is putting out. I was calibrating the sensitivity on mine, and saw a third dot...took me a while to figure out it was the lamp next to my TV. Even though it's mostly visible light, lamps, projects etc do put out IR. It doesnt matter whether or not it's "in the light". As far as your wiimote is concerned, it sees a bright screen and wee little dots.

But yeah, as far as it not working, you really SHOULD be able to just strip the wires, and tie them back together, and fold a little tape around. No matter how much you cut it up, as long as you don't cross the wires, you'll be fine. If it's done right, theres absolutely no reason why it shouldn't work.

If you have two camcorders with the IR nightvision lights perhaps, or anything else you know to be a small point they could also sub for the time being. Hell, you could even try remote controls with the buttons pushed donw. There's NOTHING special about the sensor bar, its not a sensor of any sort...just little lights you can't see.

For those of you also wishing they had component cables, people have already figured out the pinouts and rigged up some stuff. I just can't bare to bring myself to tear apart my ONLY composite cable to get it working...cause if I screw up...no wii for mii.

There is a $25 ethernet adapter

You can also buy the Nintendo Wi-Fi USB Connector. Just plug it into your PC and it'll allow both your DS and Wii to go online. It's $30-$35

Or ethernet.... my hookup is in another room so I would have to go wireless because of a door/wall. And what if I want to take it up to my parents or mother in laws and they have no internet.... can it still be used for the grand kids?

Then you need the $35 USB wi-fi adapter. Which will also work with the DS you should buy

Edit: You don't actually NEED to have Internet to use it. You update the software over the Internet, but I assume games will also come with the latest version of the Wii software on them to keep you updated. YOu also buy classic games over the Internet, etc. But to play the games you don't need the Internet.

Oh but the main part of your question is hell yeah, you don't really even need Internet with the Wii. As of now all you can do is send a message/trade Mii's and download classic games. All the games you buy in the store and play don't have web access. So it isn't like the Wii won't play if there's no web

Thanks mugs... I could go wireless at home for my notebook but would have to get a card for the desktop. I just haven?t because I like the security of hard wire. But your answer answers my question of when I would take it away from home to play it with family.

First of all the Wiimote looks at the sensor, not at the projector lens, and at 1200 lumes it's no where near what a lightbulb is. When he asked me to use the digital camera to look at the sensor, I told him that I had already used two remotes to get it to work.

ok a couple of things i have noticed with my wii today playing various games (zelda, redsteel, wii sports)

- in games like wii sports boxing if you play for an extended period of time the fact that the remote weighs far more than the nunchuk really makes an impact, sort of would be nice if they weighed the same
- playing zelda, once you get tot he twilight side and the guy um M-something rides on you, when he giggles it comes through the remote only and it is FREAKY! makes me imagine games like doom 3 or resident evil with sounds coming from the remote only like yells, moans, breathing, etc, that would not only add depth tot he game but prob freak me out if i was playing at home alone at night lol
- the left and right sides of the sensor bar actually become warm to the touch
- i have now ran my wii on my 42" plasma and my 27" flatglass CRT, both with the sensor bar above and below the screen and have found that the regardless of the sensativity and distance from which you use the remote it seems more accurate and has a more natural feel when the bar is above the screen. anyone else experience this or the opposite?

that's it for now. back to tennis

It is sounding like Gamestop/EB Games and other retailers will have some out on Black Friday too.

Wii play draws blood

I'm waiting for news of the first broken limb to come as result of playing with the Wii or news of a Wiimote giving someone a concussion.

DS is not considered part of the GameBoy line by Nintendo, it's a separate handheld line. I think because they didn't want developers to stop developing for the GBA yet.

Trauma Center is awesome

Wish the Wii Browser came out...

Any benefits for registering the Wii with Nintendo? Besides the extra warranty? Like downloads or anything yet?
