Anyways, the game is really starting to pick up - definitely the best zelda ever...but I'm still kinda disappointed. I just don't understand why in 2006, even on the "underpowered" Wii, that we are still subjected to reading text and listening to MIDI. The hardware can certainly handle much better. With somewhat lacking graphics, you'd think they'd want to make up for it in every other area as much as possible.

I remember when I first played final fantasy X - that was definitely an experience...the cinemas and voice acting added so much to the game. And zelda would only even need a fraction of voice to do the job. Instead we just hear babbling...such a shame.

Don't forget that TP was originally made for the GC, and they basically cleaned up some of the textures and jaggies, and made the Wii-mote controls. I hope that they make a new Zelda for the Wii before the end of it's life cycle. And this isn't my opinion, it's the facts from IGN and 1up...

Well, thats true - but the GC could have handled voice and orchestrated music just the same. AFAIK the textures are the same, and the resolution is the same, so are the jaggies - but they added 16:9, blooming and other special effects.

I'm sure they'll make another zelda - it was nice to be able to play this one on the Wii instead of the GC. I'm just hoping that they completely reinvent it rather than rehashing the same mechanics from Ocarina...Wiimote sword fighting for real is a must, not this silly shake the controller stuff.

See Resident Evil 4 for a demonstration of the power of the Gamecube (even though it was on 2 discs). Seriously, it has better graphics than some of the XBOX 360 launch titles, and its a 2 year old GC game. Good voice acting and cinema too.

I turned the game off after 5 minutes. Great graphics and atmosphere but it was too scary for me to play it in my basement at night.

I can't watch horror movies by myself either. I'm a chicken.

Heh, that was the best part. When the zombies started trying to break down the doors in the little house you were stuck in, I was genuinely creeped the hell out.

I'd really like to see a re-release of RE4 on the wii that makes use of the wiimote. I'd love to be able to play that game with the enhanced controls. And if they made the context buttons in the game motion sensitive, even better. I'd definitely pay another $50 bucks for that! And hey, how about another Eternal Darkness Game! That's what motivated me to buy the GC in the first place, awesome game!

I prefer text, myself. I usually just hit the button to get to the next bit of text before the speech is done as it is.

Just a quick heads up, my wife was at Target last night and was able to pick up 3 Wiimotes and 1 nunchuck.

But YMMV,... good luck.

4 player Bomberman battle mode FTW!

I went to Target on Monday or Tuesday and saw 15 remotes and 10 nunchuks, then I went back yesterday and there were still 2 nunchuks. This is in a highly populated area of NJ. So the scarcity of controllers may be easing.

They're making a Wii-specific Resident Evil title... Umbrella Chronicles I think it's called.

Me and my friends can always have a good laugh about how zelda tp handles voice acting. Its pretty funny with the single worders and grunts and funny noises. We also all agree that its the thing that turns us off of the game.

Can they even fit that kind of content onto a wii game? Isnt it a proprietary format or something. I wonder what the capacity is like. It also kind of sucks that the wii doesnt play DVDs. I just read somewhere that they are going to release a version in Japan that will, seems kinda cheesy, they should have just made it standard

Of course they can - FFX for the PS2 had thousands of lines of dialogue, and its far less powerful than the Wii, even less powerful than the GC. The GC is lacking storage a bit, but they could easily have compressed it. Hell, even the n64 had real time voice acting in starfox 64.

Wii discs are standard DVDs - you could fit hundreds of hours of dialogue on it. Nintendo was just too cheap to hire voice actors, or want to stick to some cheesy notion of nostalgia with it...who know's what theyre thinking. Its definitely not the technology thats in the way.

They are releasing a Wii that can play DVDs in Japan, but it'll be more expensive due to the licensing fees, and I assume a digital out part. DVD playback is so ubiquitous at this point that I'm glad they left it out to save the cash. It's just a marketing bullet point - I seriously doubt DVD playback is going to convince anyone to buy a Wii that was on the edge.

What they really need is a music channel that can stream music over the network. Which I doubt they'll do, because if it's even slightly complex, nintendo will assume grandma can't handle it.

I agree, the voice acting in zelda... wtf were they thinking?!?!? should have been all or nothing. Or... an option for internet folk. have the voices stream.. heh, ok, that's a bad idea.

As for DVD's... they just didn't want to pay the licensing regarding it. I'm 99% confident that nintendo could just release a paid "DVD chanel" along w/ a firmware update and we'd have a dvd player. Imagine using the wiimote to point at your menus

Are the component cables that much different? I had my wii plugged into an old 25" tube tv using a stupid composite to coaxial converter because I think it was an old lobby or hotel only tv.
I bought a 27" HDTV Westy, and everything improved except the wii. I think it looks crappier. I searched my area for aftermarket component cables and only found 12ft third party ones at CC for 59 bucks. Yikes. I ended ordering them at Nintendo's web store. I hope it improves.

they had 3rd party wii component cables at CC? and if you have HD... or even just EDTV... It looks to make a noticlbe difference. I have component input on our w/vega, but I don't think it will actually improve much. I need another set of cables though because I move my wii around... debating on getting component or save the $15 for composite.

there's a noticeable difference but i wouldn't say its makes it a ton better.

i was using a 19" tube tv and got a 30" flat tube hdtv and it definitely looks better.

Best Buy had an aftermarket S-Video and composite audio adaptor. CC had the component. I don't think it was a bad price. But I don't need 12ft.
If you are near the Fullerton, CA CC check it out if interested and you need an adaptor NOW.

Most HDTVs are not CRTs. Since CRTs are the only display technology that natively display interlaced images, upgrading from a CRT @ 480i (Standard Def.) to a non-CRT @ 480i without using component cables will probably make the picture look worse. However, upgrading to component cables with 480p make a very noticeable difference.

I've got a Wii and a 27" HD LCD TV and my ocmponent cables came in Monday. Big difference in LoZ. Definitely worth the $$$ for the cables imo.

If you want to know more about interlaced versus progressive images, Go Here the animation is worth a million words.

Awesomeness! Thanks for the input. It's hard to convey the difference in quality in words.
I feel better now.

Expect console campouts 2.0 this weekend for PS3, Wii

"USA Today reports on hard to find PS3s and Wiis as the masses scramble to swoop up last minute Christmas gifts before Santa's super sleigh takes to the sky. From the article: "Retailers are expected to be 'trapping inventory' for shoppers Sunday, says American Technology Research analyst P.J. McNealy. 'That realistically will be the last big shopping day of the year. I expect people to start camping out on Saturday again.'" "
