I also have to admit, the VC games are getting much better. Last week's was pretty good.
Ice Climbers - It's fun for a little while - wouldn't say it's worth 5 bucks, but it's not a bad game.
Kid Icarus - Overrated IMO....it didnt sell very well for a reason. It's a good game, but the control is terrible, and it's extremely difficult because the enemies are cheap. I doubt anyone who's never played it will have the perserverence to finish it nowadays, but yet, it still have that early nintendo charm, and it's still a classic. Worth the $5 for nostalgia, but not the actual game.
Kirby's Adventure - One of the last games released for NES, and one of the finest. Excellent game all around. It's a bit easy, but it's well polished from start to finish. No need for words, it's easily worth the $5.
A lot of the games released have lost their charm. Back then, the games cost $50, and they were supposed to last you a while. Yet they were still short, so some of them were super hard. And thats just not going to fly in 2007. There's no way you can convince me that a one hit kill in r-type actually makes the game better. Yet some games have stood the test of time, and are just as good nowadays as they were 15 years ago, and always will be.
Super Castlevania, SMB1 (If you havent played it to death already), Super Mario World, Gunstar heroes, Zelda 1, Zelda 3 and Kirby's Adventure are still damn fine games, and unquestionably worth the money they're charging. Zelda 3 is an absolute masterpiece, and anyone who owns a Wii that has never played through it needs to buy it ASAP. Contra, mk64, SF2, super star soldier, soldier blade, sonic, f-zero, military madness, ristar and gain ground are good games as well, but not cream of the crop. There's a few other that are decent, but not quite worth the money.
And there are some games that just havent stood the test of time, either because theyre too difficult, or just plain sucked: Xevious, Solomon's Key, Pinball, all the NES sports games besides hockey, both r-types, every tg16 and genesis game that hasnt already been mentioned, and *GASP* Mario 64. The camera and control is so horrendous, that I consider it unplayable by today's standards.
