did you happen to go to toys r us newark today? Other bay area stores are out of accessories. CC, BB, Fry's, Target. Nothing.

Yeah I just went this morning. They just opened up a new box of controllers and nunchucks. I saw it lying behind the counter and asked the guys if there were ready for sale. He said sure and opened the box for me. No more Wii's though so I'm stuck here looking at my accessories (I even got an SD card from Fry's) with no system =o(

Also Walmart in Milpitas has some controllers left (about 6) as of this morning as well.

Well I stopped by the Campustown EB Games during lunch today. I tried out ExciteTruck and found it to be pretty neat and I picked up on how to control it within 10 seconds. When I went to return the controller at the cashier, they couldn't find my ID, apparently one of the other employees buggered off with it. In the meantime, I found that despite being a 15-20 feet away, I could still control the Wii without any problems. So the range of the remote is pretty good.

While I tried out two races in the game, three people came in and bought the last 3 Wiis that they had. The last two came down from Peoria (~1.5 hour drive I'd wager) to get them. So I guess I was right, being a college town we got a decent number of the consoles in but everyone that would buy it is on break. Really tempting to stop by one of the Best Buy, Target, Walmart, etc. to pick one up after work today. Hmmm... I do need to goto Walmart for groceries...

LOL... I must have spent 10 minutes trying to grab the cat before moving on to try something else. I even sent the hawk to try and pick it up... I also sent to hawk into the water to see if it could grab fish.

HAHAHAHAHA! Seriously, it even took me quite a while too. You wake up in your treehouse that morning and all the kids are talking about is the slingshot, but you have to do all these little things before that, and it gets confusing! I probably spent half an hour getting everything in order. I'm fighting people with the wooden sword right now

Sounds good, thanks! I'm not in any rush, but since it's $250 and not $600, it's a more...manageable purchase, lol. What accessories do I need? I don't really understand the deal with the controllers. Does it come with one piece and you have to buy a second piece, then additional sets of which ones you want?

It's really like $400 since they rape you on accessories.

System + extra remote + extra numchuk + component cable + Zelda.

250+40+20+30+50 = $390 plus tax.

I wish all the systems came with at least 2 controlers ... like they used to. But they don't.

If you want to play Zelda then you have a certain minimum purchase ... System ($250) + Zelda ($50) is the minimum nessesary => $300

Component Cables are certainly nice, but not nessesary, and are hard for some to find.

Your minimum price all depends on what you want to do with it....

For the owners, how "accurate" for a lack of better words is the remote/nunchuck?

Especially for the sports games. Is it something that works fine for a couple swings and then just does something completely whacky? Also, how forgiving is it to small movements? Can you adjust the sensitivity of it?

I'm just trying to judge if it's a novelty or an actual replacement for tradtional controllers.

Pretty darned good.

It's sensitive enough to pick up when I shake the "bat" before a pitch or practice a 1ft putt. I'm not sure about adjusting the sensitivity, but I haven't needed to.

I have made weird movements, but that has been because I rotated the controller of something like that. Once I was holding the face to my left, instead of at me, when I was golfing. That kind of flipped it out, but it doesn't happen to me anymore.

If you want a big walmart bundle go ahead.

I find that the controller does big movements well, but Im a little skeptical about fine movements. I dont know if it's software or hardware, but trying to finesse a 5 foot putt in golf is a major PITA. ALso the spins in tennis, the ball looks like its spinning but I cant tell if it's really doing anything differently.

its consistent. doesnt do anything wacky on its own, however, there are wacky things that happen depending on how you move your hands or play, like in tennis, if you want to switch from backhand to forehand shots, you have to be careful because if you flick the mote it could register as a swing. sensitivity? hrmm havent tried yet, so i dunno. as for replacing traditional controllers, its possible, but depends on the game and implementation. The golf game was very hard to control how much power you wanted to put on the ball, I dont think Ill every be able to play the golf game seriously for that reason.

edit: on the other hand, i think the bowling game is awesome and i couldnt ask for more out of the controls.

(Am I leaving anything out?)

Really you can just buy the Wii System take it home and enjoy Wii Sports without buying anything else.

The minimum I'll be getting:
- System ($250)
- Zelda ($50)
- Component Cables ($30)

Optional stuff dependon on how much I can spend: (I really hate that things are tight this year ... ussualy my budget is much more flexible this time of year.)
- Rayman: Raving Rabbids ($50?)
- Extra Wii-motes 1 or 3.
- Classic Controler if on sale.
- Extra numchuk if on sale.

I waited at my local Walmart for 9 hours. Very much worth the time there. I bought the system, extra remote and nunchuck, Red Steel and Zelda. Wii Sports has been a blast, but I hate the boxing, only because my girlfriend has stomped me at it everytime. I haven't gotten to play the most anticipated game, Zelda, because she has been hogging the heck outta it. Red Steel though, I thought I wasted my money because I was expecting to pick it up real quick, but after about 30 minutes or so, I can play it pretty smoothly. Turning definitely needs worked on for FPS, but overall it's an enjoyable game which is easy to get used to. I took lunch today with my brother to go get some Red Steel in. The multiplayer is pretty fun, so fun that I am pretty upset they decided to exclude online play. Still worth it, and great for a first try FPS. Anyway, I have had zero problems with connection to my router, or remote connection. Overall, I'm glad I wasted my time at Walmart.

That looks like a curved CRT. CRTs are pretty damn tough and Wiimotes are rather light. Anyone else wonder if it was a near full can or glass bottle of beer thrown at the TV? and he's blaming the Wii wrist strap?

I was thinking about picking up some of those ruberized skins for the wii motes just for this very reason though. I'd think it would, reduce the risk of loosing your grip, reduce the damage that it causes, and distinguish better between the Wiimotes (due to Mii storage).

I was debating whether or not to get Red Steel, based on inconsistant reviews. The swordfighting is what really pulled me in. Have you sword fought yet? If you have, how is it?

I think I'll probably get Red Steel sometime this week.

How hard are those damn people swinging? The Wii doesn't seem to really require forceful movements. At least not strong enough to break the strap from the controller.

I can grip the controller perfectly fine. I wonder how the hell they did that, if they even did. The controller is pretty damn light without batteries. It seems crazy thatit would crack a CRT.

how does that look like a curved CRT... it most likely is a projection tv.

As for the motion.. you can sit and barely flick and it'll work. That's not fun of course, but you can do that. These guys seem like they just got crazy with it.

Just talked to gamestop in Gilroy CA. They said they'll be opening for Black Friday at 7am and that they should have about 5-10 more consoles in stock by then. I confirmed this with both stores in Gilroy and also the store in Fremont. Each one wouldn't give me a definite number or units, but they said they should be expecting a shipment later this week.

--- Kids get bumps and bruises, it's part of playing and growing up. If a product is causing losses of limbs, frequent broken bones, choking, or electrocution hazards (though i think some smal shocks are ok at a young age ... teaches kids to respect electricity). Then it would be target for legitimate suits. The other possibility is negligent parents/guardians who aren't close enough at hand to take an injured kid to a hopsital/doctor.

Nintendo can only hope that it gets blamed for making our youth more active

3) This sh!t is fun.
4) Yes, Zelda is good.
Color me Jealous.

5) I want my component cables, dammit.
This is the only reason I'm glad I didn't wait in line ... I would have been rather disapointed if I couldn't have at least bought overpriced 3rd party cables (which sounds like they were also sold out or otherwise unavailable). My entertainment system is setup around a component A/V switch, not Composite.

Woah woah woah... you bought a Gamecu- err... Wii?

The Wii Remote definitely isn't appropriate for all games, fortunately Nintendo was smart and those games will use the Gamecube controllers
