Hey guys. I'm getting my Wii tonight and I just want to be clear on the memory card for it. I can use any SD card to save games and downloads, right? The MSRP for the Nintendo branded card seems ridiculously high considering I can get a 1GB PNY SD card at Best Buy for $19.99. Just want to make sure that the PNY branded one will work.

Yes, any SD card, but you don't even need one, you can save on the 512MB internal memory.

It is definitely during flight about a second after the kick. There's a cursor you aim at the screen. The goaltender pretty much goes back and forth without reacting to your shot, so if you aim it at the side he's on when you're initially able to aim, you should be able to sneak it by.

Pretty sure you need a corner shot or two to get a passing score.

I remember when I first played final fantasy X - that was definitely an experience...the cinemas and voice acting added so much to the game. And zelda would only even need a fraction of voice to do the job. Instead we just hear babbling...such a shame.

Me and my friends can always have a good laugh about how zelda tp handles voice acting. Its pretty funny with the single worders and grunts and funny noises. We also all agree that its the thing that turns us off of the game.

Can they even fit that kind of content onto a wii game? Isnt it a proprietary format or something. I wonder what the capacity is like. It also kind of sucks that the wii doesnt play DVDs. I just read somewhere that they are going to release a version in Japan that will, seems kinda cheesy, they should have just made it standard

I agree, the voice acting in zelda... wtf were they thinking?!?!? should have been all or nothing. Or... an option for internet folk. have the voices stream.. heh, ok, that's a bad idea.

As for DVD's... they just didn't want to pay the licensing regarding it. I'm 99% confident that nintendo could just release a paid "DVD chanel" along w/ a firmware update and we'd have a dvd player. Imagine using the wiimote to point at your menus

Nintendo has had capacity excuses for their past two systems - N64 and ~64MB carts vs. 600MB+ CDs and GC and 1.5GB discs vs. ~8.5GB discs. Twilight Princess isn't exactly a true Wii title, its an upgraded GameCube one. But still, Nintendo is kinda slacking on this one.

It's such a copout...I just don't understand. Honestly, there are probably droves of talented voice actors who would be knocking their doors just to get the chance to do it for free...capacity is such a absurd excuse...if compressed, you could fit all the dialogue in under 20mb or less.

True, although there are all these zealot fans who don't want their ridiculous fantasies spoiled by hearing voices or some absurd thing like that. Although I think that might be mostly for Link, but I wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo just wants to save the money they would otherwise have to spend on the talent. Although like you said, I'm sure they could find plenty of good talent that they wouldn't have to pay a premium for.

I sure do love the on-rails shooting minigames, though.

i have it but i'm not that far in yet i guess. the one with the rabbids in the bathrooms is hard! i do love the little sounds they make just as that game is starting. so hilarious.

Do you guys still think that the accidents involving the wiimote are not because of poor design or insufficient straps?

I think there have been enough reports and articles on incidents where it cannot be chalked up to "you'd have to be an idiot".

Regardless of a persons intelligence, I think its a common enough occurance by now. Nintendo beefing up straps for free should be a good indicator that the original straps were too weak. The straps existance at all tells us that Nintendo knew the wiimotes would be flying out of peoples hands.

Nintendo beefing them up shows they respond to small problems fast. R&D may have shown a small chance of it (thus the strap) but they probably never had the maniacs doing the R&D.

Edit: Will I send in for them.... sure. Do I need them..... not so sure.

nintendo beefing up the straps is them not anticipating the insanity people will go through playing games together. their idea has worked a little TOO well.

I think most of the news this has been getting is just sensationalizing the small minority this has happened to.

as for the link for remotes... has anyone bothered to just go to nintendo's site? it's on their main page.

I got Super Swing Golf... but unfortunately I don't have much time to play it until next week. Will post my impressions when I do.

FWIW, it got a 6.8 at Gamespot, but Gamespot users (45 of them) gave it an 8.8.

Got my component cables today, an off brand for $18 on ebay.

It does accentuate all the graphics, the good stuff looks better, but the flaws are clearer too. Overall, its a pretty good improvement. now I can finally start playing Zelda.

Seems that most of the launch window FPS's for the Wii aren't very good.... and qft on the Metriod part.

The graphics for FarCry look absolutely horrendous, based on that review it seems they have tweaked the control scheme a little bit from RedSteel. I think it's just a matter of time before we get that "must have" FPS on the Wii.

In other news, we're un-stickied again along w the PS3 thread. I think we should get until Christmas at least.

There's plenty of Wii to talk about to keep it at the top. Screw the sticky.

Could there be enough FPS's that fail early on like Red Steel and Far Cry that will show Nintendo how to make Metriod perfect?

Well, wish me luck. My wife's out of town, so I'm sending the kids on a sleepover specifically go stand in line at Best Buy tomorrow. If it doesn't pan out, I'm going to have to find something else for the kids this Christmas .

LOL, first time I read that, I thought you meant you were sending your kids to sleepover in line.

Good luck!

Yeah, I got a tip from someone who knows someone who works at a nearby Target that they'll have 20 systems, and was told that based on the previous times, showing up half an hour to an hour early should all but guarantee me a spot. But that means waking up at 6:30AM or earlier
But then again, if I miss out, Best Buy doesn't open 'til 10, so I can still head up and be in line almost 1.5 hours early there.
