Honestly, I've always held Sony's gaming software on rather shaky ground. I hate using the PS3's OS + software, because they don't normally work well and feel disjointed. I'm sitting here trying to "buy" Dragon's Dogma on the SOE online store, and it keeps telling me that my login failed... after I already logged in successfully. Sigh, Sony... you really don't know how to instill much confidence that you've actually got a decent online system setup, which makes me wonder how awful things will be next Friday. :\

Neither console is going to be pretty online on launch day.

Damn, that is a lot. People are desperate. It seems almost impossible that supply issues will not be completely resolved shortly after Christmas at the latest, and assuming there are any supply issues.Yep, this wouldn't be possible if supply was severely crunched I don't think. That is just so pathetic. Who wants a 360 that badly or is such a pushover as a parent? Good for you, though. Early bird gets the worm, I don't really have an issue with people reselling these even if it is a huge annoyance for some consumers who don't pay attention to release dates.

I think you are right about that.

I would hope that Microsoft would be able to get the launch right since they're using Azure. I wonder if they're able to deploy an "Xbox Live" image to their general compute Azure servers? Doubt it, but it would be cool. I have been debating how to go about this because I intend to download my games digitally but 40gb+ games on launch weekend just doesn't seem like a bet I want to make.

Either way, I would hope that users get a free few months of XBL or PSN+ if either company botches the launch.

hope downloading shit isn't going to be bad. need to snag killer instinct on x1 day 1! although at least it's only 4gb or so unlike the other disc based games that are 40+ gb.

They should have just shipped Day One consoles with it on there.

will use of these require the playstation us subscription?

Also, the ps4 won't play mp3s (WEAK), but will it play mp4 videos from a thumb drive? I have a Sony blu ray player I could sell and use the ps4 in its place but I don't want to lose features.

Edit: ah, no external storage at all. Honestly what the F.

Edit again: apparently Netflix etc work without ps plus

The usb flash drives should work. External hard drives no. And the apps do not need psn plus subscription.

day 1 consoles have long been manufactured before the game was finished. it's probably not even finished right now lol.

If Sony can Day 1 patch in the share, play as you download, and PS Eye functionality... MS should be able to Day 1 patch KI instead of a 4gb download

That said, my comment was more of a joke than a serious thought.

With KI, I think it is more of a marketing tool. If you have to go and download it, you're probably more likely to "upgrade" and buy the full edition than if it was already on your console.

I just hope they ship with Hexic HD 2 or some iteration of that. =)

damn that looks pretty cool and extremely smooth, no lag at all. does it just display the video that is output from the ps4 to the vita?

and what is the actual point of this feature? i mean i know you can play ps4 with your vita, but what is the actual use case for it?

You play something on ps4 and you want to continue while someone wants to watch tv or do something else. If you have the same game on vita I think you can play it on the vita where you left off. Or could be any game maybe ?

that is something totally different i think, and the 2 games must be developed for that.

in the case in the video, is the ps4 just streaming the video output wirelessly on the network to the vita, and the vita is basically acting like a ps4 controller to the console? that is some pretty damn neat tech if so, especially with how little lag (looks like none) there is. seems virtually useless though, but is very neat tech.

I am pretty sure that they are pushing for most games to be playable with remote play, where you won't have to buy the vita copy of the game. I am not into handhelds, but if it works really well, I might pick up a vita for the times that my kids or wife have the tv, or when football is on and I want to play around with something with the game on in the background.

Yes, the PS4 streams to the Vita and the Vita is the controller. Nothing useless about it, I use my Wii U off screen more than on screen now. I lay down in bed and play a bit, or watch TV while playing on the screen. I can go outside on the patio and play.

It is a very nice feature and one I had no interest in till I bought a Wii U and decided to try it out.

How does this remote play even work? How does the Wii U remote play work for that matter? Are we seriously streaming raw uncompressed 1080p @ 60 fps wirelessly now? When did that become possible? Let alone battery life.

Granted Wii U screen and Vita screen aren't 1080p so it can be scaled console side to reduce payload but even 854x480@60 fps is a TON of wireless traffic uncompressed. I didn't know this was possible, and if so, why do we need HDMI still?

when i say its useless i'm talking about to me, not in general.

obviously it has uses for others, just like a lot of stupid stuff i don't use does

Thanks. I googled a bit and cannot tell with certainty that the ps4 will play media (not including mp3) from a thumb drive. Are you sure it will?

I saw a twitter feed also about this dlna and mp3 issue and apparently Sony is looking into it. I think there is a good chance they reverse their dlna stance.

It just streams over the network. I'm pretty sure that Sony has mandated that ALL PS4 games support remote play.

I tried remote play with my Vita and the PS3 and it was horrible, mainly because it had to be sent to Sony servers out in the cloud and then come back in. With the Vita/PS4 remote play, they fixed it so that if your devices are on the same subnet (i.e. same home network), it'll stream there. I'd say as long as you have n Wireless, you're good, not sure what the requirements are.
