Strange to see an official teardown like that. Nicely designed, although its too bad you have to open it up to replace the hard drive. Sort of sends a mixed message. On one hand he mentions the screw covers saying they want to discourage users from opening it, and they'll know if you do. Then mentions the hard drive can be replaced with any standard hard drive.

So you say it looked like a 360 game, then say it was worse than that later?

If you're gonna troll at least try to make sense.

Supposedly the shiny part on the back of the system opens up to expose the HDD tray. Notice when he shows you the HDD and takes it out the entire system is put together and he only removes the back part. He never takes off the whole top.

In the video he has the cover off, and unscrewing in a top down fashion, implying it cannot be slid out. I hope its like it was in the PS3, but it doesnt look like it. I suppose the tray isnt actually removable from the outside, but the drive can be slide out of the tray.

Watch it again. When he shows you the HDD removal the whole system is assembled. Nothing is taken apart. He slides off the back part of the cover and then removes the retaining screw to slide the HDD tray out.

Watch it from 2:00

Here's an image of what I mean. The shiny part of the cover is held by a torx screw.

hmmm...it took that as he removed the cover, power supply, blu ray and blower to expose the hard drive cover. I guess he must have flipped the unit over, and it wasnt in the video. He does specifically refer to it as a hard drive cover. The power supply seemed to take up the whole rear third of the box, so this location is in the front underneath the blower and blu ray drive?

Yeah, I saw him unscrew that in the video, but I must have missed the transition from removing the blu ray drive and blower, and power supply. In the linked video it looked like the hard drive cover was underneath that, but I see now the clips that hold the top cover to the case are upside down when he removes the hard drive cover.

It's the side. The PS4 has a matte and a glossy cover. The Glossy cover will expose the HDD tray via a torx screw. When looking at it from the front, the HDD is on the left side of the console. When looking at it from the front or the back the glossy and matte covers are divided by a seam down the center. He had it turned sideways toward the camera so the HDD appeared to be in the back.

The ODD and all were accessed from the bottom cover. I have no clue why he didn't show himself flipping the console over to access the HDD.

Dammit, it looks the same from every angle! hahah I watched the HD version, and I didnt notice it before because I couldnt see the glossy section, but the first thing he does is flip it upside down, since there is no glossy section when he initially takes it apart. So you are right, this shouldnt cause any warranty confusion in replacing the drive.

In person with better lighting it's apparent that part of the system has a glossy look.

This is the front. The left side of the system is where the HDD is located.

It's a good video but it lacks a few details I'd have liked to see, like him flipping the console over so that it is right side up again to get to the HDD and showing the torx screw.

it's unfortunate because that was the primary launch game i was looking forward too. saw it myself at gamestop and it truly looks like a ps3 game.

I'd prefer the ps4 to be all matte. Like the ps3 slim. Think it'd look nicer and retain fewer fingerprints and scratches.

Psh, it's free, doesn't really matter.

All this talk about Knack and its all about "looks". Graphics whores. I swear some of you would praise a interactive turd if it was in 4k with 16 GB textures and all the latest rendering buzzwords.

How is the actual...you know...GAME?!

Pretty sure its a game and not a graphics demo...

It's your basic platformer. Nothing really to it.

It could be the worst game in the world, that's not my point. Just tired of "graphics graphics graphics". People are shallow.

That's understandable, I'm not a huge graphics be all type of person. To me a lot of time I'm more enticed by gameplay. But in this day and age with all the tech packed into these boxes, graphics is an important concept to many gamers. Besides it's a launch title we won't see full performance of xb1 or ps4 for a couple more years as devs really understand how to code for all the potential.

If its colorful, pixel perfect razor sharp 1:1 1080p with no scaling and filtering (should be if the graphics are as basic as they are made out to be) and its at least as fun as a Jak game, good enough for me.

There were a lot of games I played on Wii thinking : this was incredible... If only it was 1080p and not a blurry upscaled 480i mess, it would be perfect.

In other words I can deal with last gen looking games that are awesome and are really only gaining 1080p framebuffers on next gen.

Wind Waker, Kingdom Hearts, and Jak are great examples. Not that Im asking for or would stay happy with nothing but refreshes and re releases, but just saying for example, if those games only came out now for the first time on next gen, I wouldn't be complaining they look like last gen.

Does anyone know why HBOGo hasn't made it to playstation 3 or 4? Is it some bs xbox exclusive? This is the only reason that I will be hanging on to my 360 for a while.

I think it may have to do with the licensing. Not sure if Sony bought into hbo yet.

It isn't but I can see some of the influence from cerny's previous games.

At the end of the day we have different tastes, not necessarily right or wrong.

With all due respect if I played the games you play I'd slash my wrists and if that didn't work drink acid and then shoot myself in the head. I "moved on" from SNES or PS grade graphics 15+ years ago. They just feel ancient and old to me. However, I get that you don't feel this way about them. Old games are your thing, but they just aren't mine.

I enjoy new tech so much that by virtue of this like I end up disliking old tech. I respect what it was at the time, but for me I need flash and glitz. For me, playing a game on 2005 console hardware just isn't ideal. Graphics have and always will be an essential aspect of video gaming, because 99% of people realize better graphics increase the fantasy aspect; the ability to put yourself into the game. Nobody actually plays or enjoys tech demos. We all realize gameplay is the foundation of a game, but graphics are its decor; the furniture, walls, art, drapes, etc. All comes together.
