woot woot! i still don't have a fedex tracking number like many people do, so i'm not sure if i will get it tomorrow like many will. unless i have a tracking number i won't be around waiting for it anyways. those who have tracking numbers for tomorrow say they will be delivered by 10:30am, so if i had one of those i'd just go to work late and sign for it in the morning.

I would say have a neighbor watch for it and sign for you but I live around all old people that are really nice. They hold packages for me all the time.

I actually did get a Genesis shortly after launch and I had Altered Beast and Ghouls 'n Ghosts, both of which I played to death. Not great, but as a dumb kid I loved them. That was the only console I owned close to launch. I bought my Playstation pretty late and even then I only played Hockey on it.

KT

Same here, that very Xmas in fact. They must have been very plentiful in stores and not sold out like crazy like they do now. I think Xbox was my one other console I got very soon after it launched but probably found it easy cause no one else wanted that behemoth.

I like most of the effects, the lighting and the art design. But holy Jesus Christmas, the post-processing effects are disgusting. The "before" image is too crisp, sure, but the bloom and lens flare are dialed up to 11 and make it look like a layer of vaseline has been smeared over the camera. I can live with that, but then they throw in the cinematic color grading and depth of field so that all these vibrant colors become a dreary shade of gray and the background completely disappears in an indeterminable miasma. Oh, orange lights, red eyes, yellow buildings? These would look better in a dull gray pallette, right? What the hell? The before image looked pretty good, the after image looks awful. Why are they using this in a tech demo? "See how completely we've scrubbed all fine detail and art direction through a liberal use of our 'Call of Battlefield' filter..." Yuck.

lol, wtf? Can I get some LSD glasses like that?
Anywho, it looks awesome.

I'm watching this IGN video with Yoshida Shuhei, and he mentions the whole lack of MP3 thing. Apparently, it was just not a high priority for them at this time, and he got a bit of a laugh at people thinking it was some ploy to make you sign up for Music Unlimited.

That's pretty early. Is it next-day service? I know one of the next-day services is guaranteed delivery by the morning.

I haven't watched the video but I said this before. Media and extra features were very much secondary to having games working, the PSN store working, and online play functional.

edit: watching now and I like how Yoshida is able to have a laugh at some of the reactions and I find it interesting how much he likes to interact with fans and people with questions. A lot of people in position of authority, from what I know of Japan specifically, delegate responsibility so that it's someone's job to answer questions and they may have to go up the chain of command for an answer when they don't know. It is not common for someone who is the so called figure head to answer directly. I find it very refreshing how Sony is approaching things. I also like how he equated the large memory pool of 8GB GDDR5 not only for games but also the software team working on the core OS and other functionality. They also have to work within the confines of the system to develop software for the system's basic functions and even to add things in. I didn't really think about it like that. They wouldn't be limited by a small memory pool when they add things like video sharing and downloading while playing etc.

I bought Knack, BF4 and AC at Target. I picked up Killzone at GameStop. I'm going to return Killzone and get it at Target along with the NBA game and Rivals.

BTW, the attach rate with this generation is astronomical. I've never bought this many launch games. I think the difference is that the games are available before the console launch which is a really good idea.

yeah all of the guys who have a tracking number say it will be delivered by tomorrow by 10:30am. i still don't have one and i signed up for this fedex manager thing on their website that will tell you if a package is being shipped to your house, and i still don't have anything there. i also called fedex and asked, and nope, nothing yet. so i think mine will come thursday.

I am kinda hesitant to get into this again, but the official FAQ didnt say anything about future support, it flat out said no support. They obviously changed their mind when they saw the backlash.

This time there are a lot of titles. I don't think any system had 20games, even if some are digital only. There's also a lot more internet buzz regarding these games. We see new videos every day and people talking about them every day on forums. We didn't see nearly the same amount of information overload before. Aside from that, most of the games coming are not unknown entities. We all know the history of Battlefield, NBA, Forza, Killzone, Killer Instinct, Assassin's Creed, Need for Speed. There are very few titles that are totally unknowns and people stay away from because they don't know anything about it. It's a unique launch for sure.

The whole FAQ was about features available and not available on day one. It was taken out of context once it hit the web. It was intended as a small info guide for people picking up a console on day one as to what they can expect out of the box. There had been very little information about what will work and how it will work. I still don't know the totality of Blu-Ray movie support with the XB1 for example.

just watched that killzone tech demo. i strongly disagree with people saying the post processing effects are bad, i think they look great. prior to this, from all the stuff i've seen of x1 and ps4, what stood out to me was how much better the lighting and subtle details looked on the x1 and ps4 compared to ps3/360. and this video just further supports my thoughts. the lighting is incredible.

hopefully the framerate can hold up though, definitely saw some dips in this tech demo video.

Shuhei Yoshida did say that the reason the PS4 doesn't support MP3's was due to the fact that they were focusing on games. We'll see...

I think some of the FPS dips were due to the oversaturation of the effects. I don't think the game will intentionally use all of that stuff at once. The framerate from what I understand in MP is slightly variable and tries to hold 60fps with 24 players. The single player I believe is 30fps only because the developers felt that it was important to create a visually stunning game for a launch title and it just happened that 30fps was a good target to aim for. I played Halo at 30fps for how many years and it was fine for me. I do appreciate a higher framerate at times but if the fluidity of the motion is not compromised then I can be happy with the result.

Yoshida Shuhei did say that the reason the PS4 doesn't support MP3's was due to the fact that they were focusing on games. We'll see...

It should be noted that DLNA support was patched into the PS3 and wasn't a day one feature either.

Anyway I think we can all appreciate that Yoshida is communicating with the fans and the consumers. Like he said in the interview, there are some technical hurdles that the engineers have to work through for even the simplest thing. It is similar to the discussion about how difficult could it be to remove the 24 hour check in and things like that from the XB1. Some suggested that it was simple, just flip a switch. If you listen to what programmers and Mr. Yoshida was saying, things that appear simple are sometimes difficult from a technical standpoint once it's made to function a certain way and it's already up and running.

The FAQ is what made it worse, because it said no MP3 or Audio support, only music playback was through Music Unlimited, at $10 a month. And I'm thinking if there was no uproar, that would still be the case. Or lets say, they wont be in any rush add that functionality. If it was just about games, there would be no Netflix, Music Unlimited, and other things that will be on day one. [tin foil fedora]While I wont call the man a liar, I think someone in the Music division pushed to make it a low priority to steer people towards Music Unlimited, even if its just to use to 30 day complementary trial. Sony is fairly dysfunctional in this way. One division always sabotages another in the name of synergy.[/tin foil fedora]

From what I understand Netflix, Amazon, Hulu etc write their own apps for Playstation consoles. I read that Microsoft writes them for the Xbox which is why they are behind a Gold account. I don't know whether this is true.

still think its BS and will get put in, not like it takes much code or space to put in the audio engine for MP3s or CD based audio

It may be, but they had to have the third party app support in place for them to write the apps. Anyways, the man said its coming, so its a moot point. Ironic how a FAQ actually made things worse. They would have been better not posting anything at all.

12 mins of killzone single player.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K_IIc89DvNg&hd=1

i wonder if the framerate issues are just artifacts of the video. i'm guessing they are. game looks pretty neat graphically and it looks like it has some destructible environments at parts. it just looks so generic to me though overall.

Killzone always get like a "yeah me too; we got shooters" game. I guess after Red Faction, it just wasn't that impressive at the time. And the ones of PS3 didn't do it for me at all.

Heh...maybe so eh?

I still want to know about IR functionality and Blu-Ray playback on the XB1. I may not need to buy a new remote if somehow it supports IR. I would if I used the PS4 though.

I liked the last two Killzone games. This one looks good and the MP looks really well done. I do like scifi theme shooters though. I guess that's why I'm into games like Halo and looking forward to Destiny so much. I don't think it's that generic when you have a bot you can control.

You know. If Xbone had a Halo launch game, I would have gone with them. Killzone looks great though. Sort of reminds me of. Dredd, which was a phenomenal movie,
