So, I went out looking for a charging stand tonight, and sheesh, my local Target is definitely not the place to go for PlayStation 4 stuff. Either I'm blind, or there isn't a single game there for the console or even a spot that I saw for them. All they had were controllers and cameras, which meant I needed to go elsewhere for a charging stand... Walmart. Although, it actually turned out well because Walmart had the Power-A charger for only $19.99, which is cheaper than anywhere else that I've seen.

Mine did not arrive from best Buy via UPS today so I went to Gamestop and bought one. I will return the Best Buy one when it finally gets here.

There were times when PSN went down for PS3 as well. I guess Sony still doesnt get networking. I havent unpacked mine yet so it doesnt really bother me, but before it was free so you couldnt complain too much. Now that its a paid service its kinda unacceptable, especially if it is all weekend.

Would everyone agree that this is the first new generation of consoles which is this close to the previous generation in terms of the raw appearance of games, etc?

It feels like this is very much a generation of adding polish to what already existed... bringing the consoles closer to the PC in terms of graphical prowess, etc.

I guess once you reach the point where you are able to render enough polygons to make characters look fairly realistic, it really does just begin to be a matter of polish, higher resolution, etc from there on out.

Or does anyone here feel that once this generation hits its stride, we'll be seeing some truly mind blowing stuff?

Eh, the systems are a lot more powerful. I think it's the cross generation support right now that is hampering the graphics. 360 games looked bad until around gears or oblivion came out. Once we get some games made from the ground up for the systems, we will see the shift.

I did notice playing Contrast that the game looked more like it was running on my pc than last gen consoles. Higher resolution, better normal mapping, real time shadows, better shader effects and so forth were immediately apparent. BF4 shows it too. The 360 version looks like garbage.

There is no excuse for that, they knew exactly how many systems were pre-ordered and can get a very good idea of what the load would be.

I am very confident Xbox Live will work a million times better on launch day and afterwards as usual.

Another note, Sony's UI looks antique, the X360 has a better UI.

I've had one issue with PSN, and it was resolved as soon as I tried again.

I absolutely love the UI. My 360 UI was just filled to clutter and useless bells and whistles.

Here's an anecdote: Battlefield is pure balls - poop-stained balls - on Xbox 360. It's glorious on PS4. Practically two different games.

Just played Resogun via remote play. Was absolutely flawless. Exactly what I wanted. If you haven't bought a vita yet! now is the time. I got one used off Craigslist for just over a hundred.

I had zero interest in a vita until about a week ago and really think I could use one now, only for remote play.

Looks like the standard on ebay for PS4s is right at $600+$20 or so shipping, so people are making around $100 profit. Just not worth the effort.

I'm very uneasy about all these hardware and software problems I'm hearing about on the PS4. I'm sure it really is just a small % of systems with hardware problems... but it's troubling when multiple major review sites ended up with some sort of problem. That makes it feel pretty widespread.

Hard to say how widespread it is based on anecdotes. I am not surprised at all. First production runs on consoles sucks! I guess I knew it getting into it, another reason PS4 seems a bit better than xbox one; I think both will have iffy reliability off the bat but at least the former is a touch cheaper as a paper weight.

Got home at 4:30 PAC time yesterday from work and started to download the update. It took me about an hour to download. Everyone I game with said it only took them 10-15 min so it must be a west coast thing.. My PS4 hung on installing the update so a quick reboot fixed everything.

I like the new UI but its going to take some time to get used to. The party chat system is great. I had 8 of us in a party for a couple of hours with no issues and clarity was good. I think the supplied headset is crap so audio seemed a bit muffled to me. On that note I want to find a headset like the Xbox with a mic boom and one speaker eventually.

I only bought Kill Zone since I didn't have much money to blow before the holidays but this game looks pretty good! Had a lot of trouble bringing 8 people into a game. We had to break up and go 4 to game because it wouldn't find us a game. We couldn't even figure out how to create a private match if possible at all. Another thing.. Kill Zone is supposed to support up to 24 people in MP but it would only let us bring 7 from our party into any game. What kind of shit is that?!

if anyone is having issues getting Bit-streaming to work for blurays this is how you do it. some people on the AVS thread were having issues

in the main Sound options (from the XMB) leave the audio option to linear PCM

start a blu-ray
hit the options button
go to settings
go to audio formats
select Bitstream (Direct)

All I have to say is DAMN, Killzone is an incredible looking game. For a first generation title it looks awesome, plus running at 1080p is great.

That's not going to bode well to the PC god elitists out there but they are resourceful enough to find other things to bash consoles about.

Killzone does in fact look pretty amazing. Sound on it is very good as well. reminds me of the audio quality of BF3 which was supurb

the console itself does get pretty warm and mine isnt cramped or anything, IMO it needs taller feet, which i plan on adding today to get some more airflow under it

its not loud, it barley makes any sound at all, there is an initial fan spin up that you can hear when you power it on, but besides that the head on the BR drive makes more noise when its seaking

the lights are not that annoying (console and controllers) controller feel is excellent

Someone asked about Disk installs earlier, i didn't see an option to flat out "install" the games however looking at the storage, each game is taking up north of 30 gigs so id assume its all there, and that is what gets auto installed the first time you put a game in the system. did it with BF4, Killzone and Knack

It's funny you point out that behavior because it's no different than what Playstation and Xbox fans do to each other on a daily basis.

Every time a Sony fan says the XB1 sucks because it's not as fast as the PS4 deserves the same kind of criticism from the top down. Xbox fans suck also so don't think I'm singling Sony fans out.

The point is that every platform has it's good points and bad points and value is subjective. That's coming from a PC gamer.

Other than the occasional outlier like level load on AC4 seems like it would be a total waste of money replacing the drive, unless to go bigger:

After spending most of the day yesterday playing Killzone and Knack (as well as other games), I have to really wonder what game the reviewers were playing, because these 2 games scored on avg a good bit lower than they really should have imo. I thought maybe it was me, but on most forums on go to, the consensus seems to be the same as mine as well. I don't trust reviews to start with, but it really seems that some of these sites and/or individuals have an axe to grind with Sony and this was just another way to "get back at them" so to speak. Between lots of down playing of the PS4's power advantages and other crap and now low balling scores, really makes you go wtf.

Once the software update was in place, all of the above problems went away. The interface is beautifully elegant and everything looked great. I got set up with PS+ and downloaded Resogun. I got the Amazon video app installed and running, which was a priority because I am a Prime member and none of my other streaming boxes (including an Oppo BDP-93, an AppleTV, and an Xbox 360) has Amazon streaming. I tried watching Skyfall and it looked awesome.

Is the disc spinning quieter than the PS3 fat? That humming drives me insane sometimes.
Also, does it beep when you turn it on..same sound as PS3?
Many beeps I don't mind but there are certain frequencies that beeps from various products produce that send a shrill just knowing its comming.

MS has a lot of cash to grease palms with... come on theyve been scandalous since long before entering the console market.
