All of these stories of what people are having to do just to get their consoles going is ridiculous. Kind of defeats the purpose of a console, for it to turn on and just work.
I just turned mine on and it worked. When I first tried the system update there was a timeout error, but I tried it again right away and it went through. It also downloaded the update really fast, much faster than I remember with the PS3. No issues connecting to PSN or the PS Store.
Kinda sucks that they went away from dynamic themes, or themes in general. At least I didnt see it in the system settings. Also strange that the default privacy settings wanted you to publish your real name. Pedos are going to have a field day with all this sharing. I also think its weird that they don't differentiate between your friends that are on PS3 or PS4. I mean, its nice that the friends are there, but what happens if someone is playing BF4 PS3 and your are playing the PS4 version...can you play together?
Its nice that the video streaming apps are ready to go, but since there is no remote I think I will mainly use the PS3. I ended up buying BF4 as part of the BOGO coupon Amazon gave me, and I am curious to see how it is compared to PC. The game I really wanted to play (Injustice) is backordered for a month or two.
The controller is better than the DS3, but it seems a little light, and it could be bigger. My thumbs naturally rest where the L1/R1 buttons are, but thats not different than the DS3. Seems fine though, especially the triggers and thumbsticks.
So after playing around with it for an hour, I feel like I have a less functional PS3. I'm not saying that as a bad thing, just where it is at the moment. I dont get BF4 until Monday, but at least then I could compare it to BF3 on PS3, cause I remember what that was like. I dont feel like playing AC right now, especially after watching Giantbomb's Quicklook. But I didnt buy it to play games today, and I already knew the media functionality would be lacking, so its no big deal. Hopefully the media stuff will come online soon and they release a remote. I dont like the idea of using my phone for controlling the PS4.
I actually expected more problems based on the early reports, but no issues with setup. Well, finding the "on" button was interesting. I didnt want to open the quick start packaging so I just pressed everywhere until I heard beeps, and then power. I wonder whythey didnt mark it like they did on the PS3. Still dont know where to put in the discs, but whatever.
