I believe you have to plug in a headset for voice chat. IF you go to the PDM (main menu on the UI) and hold the PS button you can go to device options and see that "output to headphones" is grayed out and it says chat audio next to it.

You can change this to have it output all audio through the headphones for when you wear full headset or just the chat audio for when you use a mono earpiece and use your TV or receiver's speaker output for game audio.

Oh and in case anyone was wondering about using a PC headset (that has separate jacks for microphone and the stereo headphones) there is an adapter on ebay that only costs $1 that will work. Actually you just need a dual 3.5mm to single three pole smartphone adapter. Just don't use any ones that say iphone compatible because they give odd feedback. Even the apple earbuds have an odd feedback.

Jeff Gerstmann said a different company would be supplying the stands in North America. There wasn't an eta on them last week.

Does anyone else think that the PS4 interface is lacking? I mean, as much as I disliked the ps3 interface, I prefer it to the PS4.

Its like they shipped the console with a halfway done interface. Also there are hardly any customization options compared to the ps3. Can't change the background, no screensaver, etc. What was Sony doing all these years?

I really like the new UI. It's not flashy, it is easy to navigate, and it's very fast especially when in a game compared to PS3. I was surprised by how much I could do without suspending my current game. I'm just happy to not have ads everywhere.

Background and customization will come later. It being snappy in much more important.

Xbox Live, Kinect, media integration, etc. These are all features that Sony eschewed to focus on gaming and gaming only

PS+ can be as good as Xbox Live now that it is prescription and SOny and throw money at it.
Media integration they can put in place with software and it seems likely they will.

PS4 loses Kinect, though, so who knows how good it will end up being. Nobody has done it well yet, but some day they will. That day may be now.

Hmm I'm kind of surprised that I don't have something like that already. Although, I'm trying to find one from Newegg or Amazon, but I'm not 100% sure if any 1-2 splitter will work. If I remember correctly, the microphone portion of the 3.5mm plug is a specific band on the plug, so you can't just get any splitter as it won't send the right bands to the correct cables.

You are right it has to be an adapter designed to let you use a headset from your PC on a smartphone which uses the same connector as a ps4. They also make adapters for tje reverse that let you take smartphone earpieces and plug them into a pc.

I just can't bring myself to care about Kinect. I hated that MS was essentially trying to force me to buy a nonessential component for the console that I would never use at the cost of a 25% price increase over its competition. I have no complaints about PSN (although this is my first exposure to it). I bought a technically superior gaming console for $100 less, it's 2/3 the size, there's no power brick, and it's practically silent.

Sometimes I really don't know WTF Microsoft is thinking. Titanfall is the only factor in this console war that made me pause for more than two seconds... until I realized I could just buy it for PC and Titanfall 2 is likely to be released for the PS4.

You have to admit, if it were an integral part of every single Xbox One, developers would find interesting ways to use it. There are a number of "features" that were once gimmicks that are now significant components.

my listing i had end on friday was sniped the last second by someone with 0 feedback for $610. it had been at $600 with a legit buyer previously. he then sent me an ebay message stating "how about you just give it to me and ill pay you back in chunks and give you an extra $50, i promise." it was obvious he trolled me hard and was not going to pay.

i relisted it and changed some settings in my preferences to try and not have that happen again, and ended up selling it for $581. after fees + shipping i will net $85. definitely the last time i sell a console at launch, just not worth the hassle.

but i wasn't sure what i was going to do with this one until i had it in hand since i had it preordered since 5 seconds after amazon put them up back in june. but winning the taco bell one i knew i was going to just try and sell it instead of cancelling the preorder like a week before i had it.

The Kinect 2.0 has fantastic technology. It now tracks fingers (amongst other joints), and the NEW depth/IR sensors are so accurate - it can detect your heart beat/rate by the micro-fluctuations of your clothes and skin. It can track 5 players at once (instead of 2), although most people won't have room for it. It has facial emotion recognition built in (the original Kinect required extra code).

That's all very cool, but means absolutely nothing if they don't use it in any meaningful way. I guess I would liken it to the Wii peripherals. If history has shown us anything it's that sure, you can make all these gadgets work for 1 or 2 things which usually aren't more than mini games and then what? They just get left cold and another item laying around collecting dust.

Telling me it's integrated and all it ever gets used for is hand motions to turn the system on/off etc would make everything above you just mentioned pointless.

If I have to take that Kinect 2 and hook it to my PC to get any real use out of it because joe blow has made really cool apps for it, then they've failed at their goal and should have just released it for PC.

It remains to be seen, but again, history has shown the same thing time and again..

Moved the 360 into the bedroom to make space for the PS4 and I never thought I'd be more pissed about a power brick. The one the cord isn't long enough to rest the brick on the floor and the brick is too big to fit behind the closet I was putting the 360 on so its sitting pretty much next to the 360.

Why not just do a 2nd chance offer to the actual bidder at $600?

was always curious why the 360 had such a massive power brick, does it really need to be that large?

EBay are full of those types of people, Craigslist and Kijiji are worse because of no moderation. 2 years ago I was selling extra hockey tickets and had some dodgy guy bugging me for a week wanting me to mail them to his place, gave me signs that he wasn't planning on paying for them. This past summer I sold several RC cars and a motorcycle, it's so much better having people come in person and sometimes they're willing to pay more than what you listed when they like what they see.

That said, back from my DC trip today and just caught up on this thread. Kind of underwhelming really. Lots of PC elitist bickering and other off topic comments, and only a small chunk of comments bout the games / system.

The greatest thing I've gathered from all this is that the PS4 UI is very snappy, and Knack seems like a sleeper hit. Oh also the Vita streaming seems to be a success? Has anyone tried the voice commands (if you got the Eye), and with that - the interactive room or whatever it was called?

Overall it seems like I made the right choice by waiting... let these bugs get worked out while I finish up some 360/PS3 games I have that I want to complete.
