I have given many demonstrations on programming against the Kinect (for Windows). I'm able to calculate your BMI if you stand in front of the camera, for example:

The Kinect 2.0 has fantastic technology. It now tracks fingers (amongst other joints), and the NEW depth/IR sensors are so accurate - it can detect your heart beat/rate by the micro-fluctuations of your clothes and skin. It can track 5 players at once (instead of 2), although most people won't have room for it. It has facial emotion recognition built in (the original Kinect required extra code).
