What makes you think you're entitled to turn a 25% profit for reselling an item that, despite just being released, is not in short supply? Purbeast, I understand you won yours, but complaining about a net profit on top of not having to shell out any money for the console you were going to buy in the first place... Come on, man. And anyone complaining about not getting some massive markup from eBay is delusional. Hoping for artificial scarcity in a console that reportedly sells one million units in the first day so you can eke profit out of impatient people who need to have a new console immediately but somehow forgot to pre-order; yeah, that's a good business plan. Everything about pre-ordering a product just so you can turn around and sell it for a profit on eBay angers me, but people who complain about not making enough profit are the worst.
I presume much of your rant is directed at purbeast, since I wasn't complaining for the amount mine sold for. At any rate, sorry that making a few bucks by reselling an item for more than I paid for it angers you so much. It really shouldn't.

Yea 85 bucks is not worth trying to sell it.
$85 for maybe 30 minutes of effort doesn't seem like a bad ROI.

30 minutes... Packing and taking it to USPS/UPS alone is 30 minutes or more. Add on top the risk of sending out a bum unit or getting a crappy bidder, the hassle isn't worth the potential return for a lot of people.

Heh, I can guarantee that I can have one packed, labeled, paid for, and dropped off in like 20 mins. And then 10 to list the auction.

But yes, getting a crappy bidder, and possibly a return, sucks.

Takes less time than that for me. I use the box it came in from Amazon, print out the shipping label, and schedule a UPS pickup for my work, drop the box off at the mail room. Easy.

That happened a lot of times to my friend and others. Their system is still running fine.

I don't think anybody is really angry here, just disappointed at the return compared to previous console releases. I had hoped to make at least $300 but it wasn't meant to be. Certainly nobody here has an entitlement.

It sounds like your whole post is a direct result of your last sentence. There's nothing wrong with people trying to make a buck. Once a person buys a console, it's theirs to do what they want with it. Somehow a person selling a brand new console is different than somebody who plays theirs for a week and then tries to sell it? I'm sure you have no problem with the latter, so why the former?

People dislike resellers of products with limited releases for some strange reason. It makes so little sense for the PS4, because you know there will be more in the future. The only people who are buying them are people willing to pay extra to have it right now.

I can almost understand people being upset with resellers for things like limited release shoes, but even then not so much. They have the exact same chance to get that shoe was pretty much everyone else. The guys I hate are the ones that get the "hook up" from their cousin or brother at Footlocker. They never have less than a 100% chance to get it.

I've paid double retail for shoes before, because I was busy on release day and couldn't find someone willing to drive 2 and a half hours to wait in line for a few hours then drive back to get them for me. I am still just as happy with my product, even if I paid a bit more for it.

It strikes me as being incredibly hypocritical for someone to complain about the greediness of eBay scammers while simultaneously attempting to get a 50% markup for a product that they are literally only acting as a middleman on. "I only got $85 in profit for doing what amounts to basically no work; not worth it!" "Buyers on eBay keep trying to scam me while I try to sell this $400 product for $600+, what's wrong with people?" Are you kidding me? If you're allowed to be greedy in your quest to make money for doing nothing, calling out other people for trying to grift you in the process is ridiculous.

Except, they are not doing nothing. They bought a product with their money and are allowing people who are impatient to dictate the value. If the profit they get is not worth the hassle you are likely to encounter on eBay / craigslist / whatever, then it isn't worth it.

Some people, such as myself, didn't even intent to get a PS4 at launch, but wound up with one. Am I only allowed to sell it at retail value, despite the market for such a console being higher? Am I not allowed to complain that posting it $100 lower than everyone else on craigslist has amounted to only morons asking for trades of worthless crap for it?

Why does this make you so mad? None of what you're describing is any of your business at all, and doesn't even involve you. Quit sticking your nose into other people's business and start living your life. It's amazing how happy you could be if you stopped picking out stupid things to be upset about.

Obviously if you wound up with a product you didn't want, that's different. I'm more talking about the people who buy 10 of the things with the expressed interest of selling them for a high return. It's legal, and it's a great example of the free market in action, but it also strikes me as unethical (that's a personal thing) and invariably these people piss and moan about not getting as much money as they expected as though they were entitled to earn some ridiculous return on investment because they were one of the lucky million people who got a console at launch. You bought a product, turned around and sold it for a profit (which is very rare to begin with), and that's not good enough? Quit complaining.

I'm merely voicing my opinion on the issue. You have plenty of other people voicing their opinions about not getting as much money back as they had hoped in this very thread, so I figured I would offer up my own take. If it offends you that I offered an opinion that doesn't agree with the majority who were already discussing it here, feel free to ignore my post and "live your life" as it were.

I just bought a 1TB hard drive to upgrade my ps4. Should be much better now with the space. I like to have multiple games installed at times. I hope it installs without an issue.

I interpreted "not worth the hassle" as a complaint, but I could be misreading your post (and for what it's worth, I agree about the hassle of selling things online with flaky buyers). It's just the whole "gift horse in the mouth" mentality that you seem to exude when talking about only getting $85 in profit as opposed to zero since you were planning on getting the console from the get-go regardless.

I had the included mic/headset plugged in to my controller last night. The phone rang so I put the controller on my desk and answered it. It was my dad, we talked for a bit, at one point I mentioned that I was messing with the Playstation and the thing startled me.

I couldn't figure out what the random noise was, but finally looked at the screen and saw that it was waiting for my next voice command. Pretty cool that you can use the commands without the camera.

Yeah that happened to me too. As long as you have the Mic in, you can do stuff with voice commands. I don't think that you can turn it on from standby with a voice command though.

You need to boot in safe mode and do the database restore crap I think. IGN has a video guide on their site.

edit: someone today returned 3 PS4s to my gamestop because they said "people on ebay were trying to scam me and I wasn't getting $700 a piece for them". Then they sold the three returned consoles in about 20 minutes they told me.

look, i preordered a ps4 and xbox1 literally about 5 seconds after they were put on amazon during their announcement at e3. until i had won a taco bell one i wasn't sure if i was going to keep or sell my ps4 that was to come from amazon. i won the taco bell thing on november 4th, less than 2 weeks before launch, so i just decided to keep the preorder and try to sell it.

and with the hassle of ebay, i'm simply saying that i won't do it again because for $85 it just isn't worth it. i'm not sure how that comes off as complaining.

the xbox1 preorder i am keeping for sure and don't have any intention on flipping any.

I think that is option number 7 in safe mode which says initialize ps4. It's 7200rpm but should not make any difference although the stock 500gb drive is 5400rpm. Sata 3 although I think ps4 uses sata 2 by default. Should be here Wednesday so I'll give it a go.
