i fail to see how they have any kind of advantage. ps4 you have to pay to play games online just like you do xbox1. however i do believe they had said that you don't have to pay for ps+ for MMO's if they require a monthly fee (i could be wrong about that though).

on ps3 you didn't have to pay to play anything online except maybe an MMO, and you had to pay to play any xbox360 game online because of live, and xbox360 had much better online gaming experiences with higher numbers of players online.

i just fail to see how you are coming to this conclusion.

I wasn't referring to consumer fees. I was referring to Sony and Microsoft's policies when dealing with 3rd party developers, and giving them access to run their games in a way they feel acceptable. Microsoft is currently perceived to be harder to deal with, and is getting less support from 3rd parties in regards to online games.

Square-Enix went on record to say that they didn't have a desire to port FF14 ARR to MS platforms, specifically due to the policy red-tape.

And, I was also reminding people that SOE exists.

But, you also don't have to pay for PS+ for MMOs or Free to Play games.

They said that if it's free to play, you don't have to have PS Plus to play.

yeah, and that is how it was on ps3, AND every other game was free to play on their online system (unless MMO). that is why i don't see why he thinks this gen, with even more limitation due to the pay to play online, would make ps4 stronger this gen.

Are you intentionally being dense? He is/was comparing to the Xbone, not the PS3, you brought up the PS3 for some freaking reason.

im saying ps4's online system is less "free/open" than ps3's was, where 360 and x1 is basically the same. 360 had a much bigger online following than ps3 did, even though ps3 was free to play online and you had to pay to play on 360.

based on the history and current condition of ps4 being less free/open than the ps3, i fail to see how he's coming to his conclusion.

think my ps4 controller is dead. hadn't turned it on in probably a month and prior to that it was charged just fine. now the controller is dead with no juice, and it won't charge when plugged in to any usb device.

Is it possible that it just completely died from no recharge? Does it even light up connecting it to the ps4? I usually charge mine every other night.

no it doesn't light up when connected to anything usb. i can press the PS button and it blinks for a second then disconnects, when plugged in.

I was speaking in terms of a platform attracting Publishers and Developers, not in terms of whether or not consumers will have to pay for the online or not... so I think you're completely missing the point.

What I was saying, is simply that the PS4 seems to have the advantage in attracting Publishers/Developers of online games, like MMOs and Free 2 Play games, since the current perception is that Sony's the easier company to work with right now. Several companies have made statements that are basically saying that Microsoft's policies are difficult for them to work with to manage their games the way they want, and currently Sony has attracted more developers of online games to the PS4, than Microsoft has done.

Microsoft's saved themselves a bit, in the decision to let developers self-publish, and generally loosening up on their policies, which is why some developers like Digital Extremes turned to say that they're now interested in porting to the Xbox One, but in other cases, like Square-Enix, and Roberts Space Industries, it seems Microsoft hasn't done enough.

This is why I believe the PS4 holds a 3rd party advantage over the Xbox One in the area of "Online games, like MMOs and Free 2 Play games".

They also have a more first party development advantage, since SOE exists, and MS doesn't really have first party development for online games. That adds SOE games like Planetside 2 into the mix, and further increases the gap between the PS4 and Xbox One in the online game area.

Edit: And to be clear, I'm talking about games with MMO or F2P pricing models right now, I'm not talking about stuff like COD.

Did you try Holding the PS button and the Share button at the same time, to try to re-pair the controller?

PS4' sales are murderous. XB1 hasn't been out as long, but isn't quite there with sales on a weekly basis. Its start is still very strong, though. This gen is setting up to be massive. The games coming down the pike over the next five years will be superb.

Here are some interesting numbers and charts from IGN to put it all in perspective. http://www.ign.com/articles/2014/01/07/what-sonys-42-million-ps4s-sold-figure-actually-means

Nintendo has taken a massive beat down and it needs to really step its s*** up soon.

China just legalized game consoles so Sony and MS are creating partnerships with local companies to manufacture and sell their systems.

It is surprising that they sold over 7.2 million PS4 and XB1s so quickly.

So we can expect Xbone and PS4 knockoffs in the next few years?

...oh and probably even more account hacking

I just read a joytiq article about nyko battery back for the ps4 controller that should keep your controller alive longer, also they have an intercooler add-on that snaps on to the ps4 to keep it cooled. Each is either 20 or 25 bucks and should be out sometime soon.

They are both already made in China anyway.

Xbox is no surprise but despite my PS1, 2, and 3 all made in Japan, the PS4 is made in China. That was a shocker.

Some PS4's are made in China and some are made in Japan, though most seem to be from China

Yup since they're using off the shelf AMD parts from Foxconn.

From what I read in other posts you don't use the ps4 as much as the Xbox so Sony will replace the controller for you. You just have to mail it to them. I think they will pay to ship it, although I'm not sure. I've read that those on the Sony forum have sent theirs in for replacements.

In its current state the PS4 is not a reliable blu-ray player.

I have tried 4-5 blu-rays on this and 2 of them do not work. One I got to load--slowly--and made it to the main menu, which wasn't showing the text in the right location, but it would not play. Black screen. The triangle showed me the options, so the system wasn't locked, but just nothing came out of it. Same thing today playing a different movie. I no longer trust this will play blu-rays. These same movies play flawlessly on my PS3.

Funny that the company to found Blu-ray can't reliably run them on its flagship system. I sure hope an update fixes this.

I did google and many are having the same problem. Some people can't seem to get damn well anything to run.

The only game I've tried was AC IV and it was fine. The one DVD I tried was fine also.

It's pretty obvious the PS4's system software was rushed out the door to make the holiday launch. Sony's taking their sweet time fixing these issues too. I'm assuming they're holding off on a firmware update until February 22nd. Be pretty bad if the media playback and save state features aren't available for the Japanese launch.

Only problem I had with playing Blu-rays on the PS4 was that I didn't have Internet for a week and had never loaded up a Blu-ray before but played games just fine and updated to the newest software, and said I had to connect to the Internet since it was the first play, so I had to hook up my PS3 instead which sucked.

The blu-ray player is software...basically an app the system runs. Every network Blu-Ray player gets periodic updates because of compatibility issues. This will have to receive an update as well.
