I ended up getting Killzone. Will give it a whirl later tonight.
You may like it, nothing spedial except graphics. Story is alright, multiplayer is cool if you are into that type of multiplayer.

For DVDs it still appears to be X though, which is the really weird thing. I watched a DVD yesterday and I paused using X, but a Blu-ray a couple of weeks back I had to use O.

Ignore this, it is actually completely random. It changes from disc to disc; watched three Blu-rays yesterday and 2 used the X button while 1 used the O button.

Hopefully if it sucks in Japan at least the people over there are in close proximity to Sony and can march on its headquarters to demand they fix this really ridiculous-to-still-exist problem.Ignore this, it is actually completely random. Maybe that depends on the region of the movie? I remember reading that in japan O was the default accept button while in the US X is default
Any word on a damn firmware upgrade for this thing? MP4s anyone? Play all blu-rays properly? It's been two months since the last update.
EDIT: This says Feb 22 http://www.trustedreviews.com/news/...e-headset-compatibility-to-arrive-february-22
The ps4 isn't region free as far as I know.

The PS4 is region free actually.
It is region locked for movies.

Why is this even news? Almost all optical media devices have region locking built into them! The point is that Sony does not force developers to region lock games. That was the same policy with the PS3, and if I remember correctly, there was only one region-locked game. Most Blu-Ray movies have region locking built into them, and the PS4 won't treat them any differently than the PS3 or any other Blu-Ray player.
It's rather confusing to try and state that the PS4 has region locking when the point of that statement is meant to be about the games. Nintendo is the only company that currently forces region locking on their games.
They were talking about a movie pausing with O vs X and how it may be tied to the region. It isn't possible this is the case when it isn't a region free blu-ray player.
FW 1.6 is out. Doesn't add anything exciting though.
-Picture quality during DVD playback has been improved.
-Wireless stereo headsets (CECHYA-0080/CECHYA-0083/CECHYA-0086) are now supported.
-You can now mute the microphone for the PlayStation Camera.
