i hate the 360 triggers, too narrow and they tire my fingers in racing games. I love the ones on the original PS3 pad, but the analogue sticks are not as good, but its not there is not plenty of 3rd party controllers out there for both systems.

I also have the xim3 edge for mouse and kb

Why would anyone want analog sticks so close, where your thumbs hit each other all the time?

Cause I never have that happen and the buttons on the dual shock last longer and are more responsive for me than any Xbox 360 controller.

The rounded and slick surface on the xbox buttons is not as good as the slightly textured and more flattened surface on the dual shock buttons IMO. The other point of interest is the button responsiveness over years of use. My Xbox 360 controller buttons eventually all get sticky when you press them in. Almost like it doesn't want to return to position after a press. It's a minor issue but when I'm playing action games it does get noticeable. The dpad isn't as good either but since it's not used in many games at all, I don't really count that. The Xbox controllers do feel more solid but not so much that I could give the edge to them in build quality since over a long period of gaming I do get minor fatigue from the extra weight of them vs the dual shock.

I'm not a big fan of the 360 controller's triggers either. Would be better if they had a textured surface. I'm actually one of the few people who prefers the DualShock to the 360 controller. It's lighter, not as chunky, easier to hold. The DualShock also has a considerably better D-Pad.

Nobody complained yet that it's wired?

If it's anything like the PS3 controller, you can use them either wired or wireless. This is a prototype for a developer system so no real need to have it wireless.

A controller with the lightness/built in battery/dpad of the PS3 controller combined with the stick position of the 360 controller would be near perfect.

Orbis is also following the path first set by Xbox Live: our source says "most" of the PS4's online features will require a premium subscription to use. Sony's new online service will be called PlayStation World, our source says, replacing PlayStation Plus.

Teehee.

Hopefully we don't have to deal with any playstation move/eye/motion control/social networking/touch screen bs and they just make a sweet console for gaming and add a lil multimedia type stuff.

...probably not gonna happen.

yeah and nickel and dime people for every little thing. $1.50 for a wallpaper? $2.99 for one that moves a little bit? lol
Would be awesome to have some PVR functions as well, maybe we'll have better hopes from OUYA in that regard.

Only a gaming machine with a little multimedia isn't going to be good enough. These are trying to do everything, when your competition let's you do pretty much everything, you're going to have to do that too. Also these are somewhat competing with smartphones as well to a certain degree.

Problem is, I can see all these simply fading away and a PC Gaming box taking over. Could be a crash coming soon. These things are trying to be too PC like while people on PC are saying "hey we could do that 5 years ago! give us some games!"

Heh, I play games specifically when I dont want to be social.

Also cmdrdredd, I would buy a steambox in a heartbeat over any of the newer consoles.

While all of that is true, it doesn't need more than a mention at a press event that will largely be watched by people who spend a lot of time gaming. That crowd doesn't care for crap that they have another box the can stream Netflix or that it will have Facebook integration.

It's all about the games and the experience. The rest could almost be a complete separate after-event. No one honestly cares about it. The only reason companies do it is because they don't have enough actually stuff that people care about and they need to fill time.

Wouldn't it be nice if we could forego some of that shit in exchange for more memory or a faster professor or something? :awe:

That isn't true. My two uncles and my sister own consoles and use them for way more for other things than they do for gaming. May seem weird on a gaming forum but the Wii sold a bajillion units because it targeted non-gamers.

Yea, that's why third party software sales sucked on that console. Look at PS360 game sales (especially the third party developers) and compare them with the Wii. A lot of people bought the Wii but I have heard countless times where people say their Wii is collecting dust. The only things the did well on Wii were Mario and other first party titles because they were specifically aimed at the casual market.

I didn't say what was effective on the console..... the Wii targeted non gamers and sold a ton. You're an idiot if you think that Microsoft and Sony are making new consoles in order to put out the best gaming systems. Those days were gone after their respective companies' first gen consoles.

The Wii was also a unique case in that it was relatively cheap to produce and used dated, last gen technology, allowing Nintendo to seriously undercut the price compared to their competitors, which inflated sales and appealed to that "casual" market so much in the beginning. That was a HUGE part of its early success.
Microsoft and Sony are not going to be able to follow that model, just based on the cost of the hardware alone. The "casual" (i.e. Zumba Fitness, Just Dance) gaming segment is NOT going to be plunking down $400+ to play Jillian Michaels' Ab Attack 9. That's going to be the gaming market, and the gaming market almost exclusively...at least until there's a price drop or five.
