There's good reason to own them all. Gaming is actually a cheap hobby compared to many. Spending around a couple grand or so for a decent PC and all the consoles and even portables is cheap compared to rebuilding a classic car or serious RC hobby.
Some gamers have no trouble spending $500 for a new GPU just due to one over hyped, graphical game that's about to release so surly $400 for a console even if it's just for one game isn't much different.

I have them all except for the WiiU only because I'm just not interested in what's available but I have the 3DS.

Haha, so true. I shudder to think how much I spent on RC planes back when I was still flying. Those things are a huge money pit. Big part of why I quit.

It's very affordable, especially when you can quickly trade/sell games and recoup half the cost or just wait until they go on sale. For comparison, pretty much any other hobby I have from guitars, guns to cars cost much more for a single item. Hell a box of 50 rounds is $20 and last 15 minutes

Which is why I almost always buy physical discs, especially for single player games.

Lol I have probably 20x as much put into a band room than video games with the guitar amps, drum kits, a pa system with mixing board. Ammo like you said is kind of expensive too. I can spend over $200 on a range trip if I bring everything I have.

Same for me. Have a fully mic'ed drum kit hooked up to my computer and a couple guitars/amps.

Gun range is pretty much the same, especially when the 50AE rounds are $3/each

you want a cheap hobby ... pick up freshwater fishing!

lol no. Maybe if your just going to get started and buy kids stuff to fish in your local river or something but I'm talking about more serious hobbies, ones where you want the better quality experience. Fishing is fucking expensive if you're actually want a good experience. I know, used to have the boat, the dock payments, quality rods and lures...even a 3d fish finder. Gaming actually saved my wallet in a way once I got older and narrowed down my hobbies.

Even a simple Aquarium hobby can be pricey if you start with the entry level stuff and later want more, you could spend a few grand easy unless your happy with the kiddy fish in the bowl sort of stuff.

Actually most male adult hobbies are very expensive compared to gaming. But granted you could probably get more satisfaction of your time invested out of others.

This. No matter the hobby, you can pretty much spend as much (or more) as you are comfortable with. My problem is I have too many hobbies, gaming is only one of them, but I've really narrowed the scope of that in recent years. My dissatisfaction with consoles in general have helped, but I still get one here or there. I would still consider gaming an adult male hobby by todays standards. We grew up with gaming unlike those before us.

all you need for freshwater fishing is like $50. get a rod/reel from walmart and get some hooks and lures and you are set. you don't need boats and all that crap. i probably spent like $50 this whole season on fishing, and it was just getting some new senko's. maybe like $75. just did freshwater fishing in lakes and rivers. i went 2-3 times a week for like 3 months straight. i spent more on a single charter trip than i spent the whole year freshwater fishing.

Some people aren't happy with Walmart reels. You can spend upwards of $100 for premium baitcast reels. It just depends on what you want and what you are looking for.

Started off with that when I was like 8. I would consider that entry level fishing I suppose and is fine depending how serious you are into it like anything else. I could also buy a $40 RC helicopter and fly it around for a few as apposed to a few grand. But again since many here are more serious gamers, I was comparing it to many serious hobbies. Every hobby just depends on how involved you want to get into it. I know a guy that spend thousands on train sets and building landscapes for it when he could have bought a $20 Coca Cola train set.
If you're a casual gamer then sure, compare the Walmart reels all ya want.

I used to do RC as a hobby, boy that got expensive once I got into T-Maxx and Ofna or Kyosho .21 buggies and went to tournaments but that wore off in less than 5 years, then I got back into downhill mountain cycling and then didn't get back into it after recovering from an unrelated injury. I pretty much just video game now and then I'll hopefully get back into coaching kids hockey (not really a hobby).

I'm know I'm going to be getting a PS4 later this year but was wondering if you thought it would be worth waiting until black Friday to pick one up. Out of the four games out I'm interested in right now (Infamous, Shadow of Mordor, Last of Us and AC IV) it only seems that Infamous or Last of Us has a chance to get bundled in a black Friday deal. I'd also be interested if the bundled a free dual shock 4 controller. However, I have a feeling that most bundles will be something like knack and some 3rd party accessories I'd never use and I'm better off picking one up later this month or if I see a good one day deal.

I remember many years ago buying a fuel powered car and I think the fuel was $30 a gallon. Pain the ass to start but hot damn did that thing move...Until I bumped a curb, replacing shocks on those things is pricey, then $400 for a new motor cause I over revved it too hard I guess....I was done not long after that.

Possible there might be some bundle deals but I saw a Destiny Bundle on Ebay for $439.
A slightly used system with Killzone and Earforce HP's for $360...everything but the box.
Used probably won't be a bad way to go if you're wanting to save as much as possible.

If you buy used check to see if you can still purchase the warranty on the system through the store. That is if the previous owner didn't purchase it on that system already. Otherwise it would should transfer with the system but I'm not too sure.

Charter trip? What?

You don't need a $10,000 bass boat, but comparing shore fishing at a pond to anything approaching the freedom and flexibility of fishing from a (small) boat is asinine. It's simply night and day. Especially if you're talking about any reasonably sized body of (fresh) water bigger than a farm pond.

i spent $100 on a 6 hour charter trip this year out in the chesapeake bay, and spent less than that the full year going fresh water fishing 3x a week for a few months.

although, i did spend $130 on a deep sea fishing trip in NC in july.

Nitro still is $30/gal. Even the airplane stuff went up due to a methanol shortage a few years ago. Was always cheaper than the car fuel (nitromethane is expensive) but not anymore. Anything smaller than 1/8 scale runs electric now. Don't see too many nitro cars anymore. The performance you get out of EP just crushes nitro now anyway. Batteries have gotten a lot cheaper too.

Airplanes have been slower to convert over to EP for the larger scales (.40 and up). Higher cost of larger motors and ESCs. Plus the hobby tends to attract an older (I had nicknamed the local club "God's waiting room"), more technophobic crowd. The constant fights with the execs over allowing 2.4ghz radio systems and modern gasoline motors made me want to pull my hair out. Did it for 10 years and I honestly don't miss it.

I did try taking up archery last year, which I did enjoy, but the local range is a joke. So I'm back to just gaming right now. Still working on restoring my beer engine though. Might give home brewing a crack once that's done.

Is this the PS4 thread or the fishing/RC thread??

I'm waiting for the Black Friday timeframe myself to buy. It's not always exactly Black Friday, but the holidays usually bring some decent deals. If they are going to have bundles I hope there will be something besides those awful white ones.

Not a bad idea if you can be early and snag a deal with a bundle. I know a friend or two waiting for the same thing.

It's rarely worth going to a physical store on Black Friday. There are plenty of online deals around that time too.

Yup around that time last year I snagged psn and plus membership from Amazon for $30 for one year. Going to be on the look out for that as well this year.

That's how we roll.
There's not a lot of PS4 news lately and the new crop of games aren't coming out until the end of the month. Still waiting on FW 2.0 too.

Might by some Cyber Monday deals on PS4s but I think they're going to be in hot demand this Xmas. I wouldn't hold your breath for any earth shattering savings, unless it's on older games.

Yup the console is still top new for any huge deals but I'm sure there will be bundles.

I'm really hoping for a controller deal. I could use another PS4 controller.
