Well you could say that but it is wrong.

The PS3 has the RSX GPU which is between a 7800GT and the 7600GT. The 7800GT has a VP of 12.3. The PS4 has an 18CU GCN part which puts it between the 7850 and the 7870. The 7850 2GB has a VP of 141 which is more than 10x faster than RSX even when using the higher bound for the RSX and the lower bound for the PS4 GPU.

The rest of the PS4 is also much better than PS3, especially from an ease of extracting performance point of view.

None of which makes any difference unless the games are better.

There's only a little room for improving graphics?! Do you notice the difference between DVD and Bluray?

It's not even resolution at all. More memory means higher resolution textures and models, faster GPUs mean you can render more complex scenes with more effects. You don't need to always raise resolution to have better graphics. Look at it this way, Unreal Tournament back in the day can be played at 1080p then you can play Crysis 3 at 1080p and the difference is very astounding. No resolution changes.

and when was bluray out, like 7 years ago?

exactly....

Back in the day the cinematics were the next step after the sprites, now we have cinematics as the sprites (playable) but if you look at all the cinematics compared to the gameplay, there isint realy all that much improvement, in fact some are focusing on high-lighting all the wrong things making it go backwards and look flimsy and medicore.

If the game isint good, the graphics can count for shit now days, since the catagorie of games are getting lesser and lesser, they all revolve around first person shooters, and its more so like watching a 3-d or anime movie instead of a actual feeling of experinceing a newer type of gameplay.

If they mix up all the types of game play there is, less then 20 I'm assuming then you get one type of gaming experince, then what? Motion controls were the last big inovative concept to gaming, higher graphics is not; it will all depend on the game play and story at this point, because graphics are getting way to over rated in terms power, try going outside and admireing the flowers from a far, then take out a giant magnifying glass and walk up close to the flowers to admire it from there...thats all graphics is doing now days, adding more shaders, and increasing frame rates...there is a limit if you knew anything about art...but if you focus with a magnifying glass on everything, then you will miss out out on everything as is, looking at the flowers pretty colors with a magnifying glass are fancy to look at, but the colors were already there even if you dident have a magnifying glass.

In other words the graphics were already doing fine toppled with good gameplay, story and memorable graphics, having a pie bigger than the other doesent mean it will taste better...Quality over quanity.

for some reason, people don't like to consider the difference between being able to render dozens of well-textured NPCs vs being able to render hundreds of well-textured NPCs at comparable frame rates.

People look at still images and FMV cutscenes to compare "graphic power"

these people have limited vision.

I agree...I am impressed by the amount of small details in certain games and engines. The little things, like the number of characters, or the amount of debris being blown around with the wind means more to me than being able to render nosehairs on some guy in a close up lol

I think that we'll definitely see a nice graphical fidelity boost with the PS4 and (to an extent) the X1. I've looked at some current console games up close, and honestly... they look terrible. People were gushing over The Last of Us screenshots, and as a heavy PC gamer, my thought was, "Man... those look UGLY. Those textures are just awful!" I may play console games, but I also play a lot of PC games, which tends to make me compare the two together. Thankfully, it might not be so bad anymore, and I'm also hoping that we see a boost to PC games that are cross-platform.

I'm actually a bit excited for the rumor of some good RPGs for the PS4. I ended up not caring much for Ni no Kuni, so I'd love something along a more standard vein of old school JRPGs. Something like Blue Dragon but with a good story.

Compared to other titles on the PS3 or Xbox 360, The Last of Us looks godly. By PC standards when we have Crysis 3 it's highly unfair to compare.

Yes,

the 46487565 giga-watt p90x powered by lunar solar light alien tech thanos gloves and all that jazz crap, its still not going to be 10x more powerful in terms graphics, whats all that other whistles and do-da's going to do for the game play? Nothing but make it a tad bit smoother and sharper. The game play will revolve around how well the makers of the games can shel out a good story and adding in a little bit of inovations... because everything we can do now can basicaly and will basicaly be the standard, all first person shooters just repeat the same Bs over and over, the same way sprites back in the day revolved around the same things other games of its gen was doing.

Theres only a little more room for improving graphics, then what? 4k and all the mega ultra super duper hd graphics are getting old fast, it seems its just focusing on sharpening the images by magnifying the colors, or like 3-d movies where in most cases the 3-d is so useless it makes the average person wonder why they are focusing on a 3-d digital version of a chair taking you away of comprehending in whats going on in the story/plot...unless its vibrant with a wide vairety of colors and objects like avatar which caters to 3-d, than every movie shouldent just don it self 3d.

I'm hoping the Ps4 will make a huge leap, but what I've been seeing of the teasers true or not, seems to be more like a ps3-part 2 or upgraded version instead of a truly next gen counsle that would make leaps like how the olden days next gen leaps were.

Just saying...

The graphics themselves will not be 10x better because it is not a linear scale but the console itself is 10x more powerful. All I did was point that out without any comment about what that would mean for the graphics themselves.

Should I preorder it from Amazon? The teaser video I watched on Engadget has me intrigued now. Official unveiling tomorrow. So exciting!

Tomorrow is going to be a huge day of unproductivity. It's once-in-a-decade mega-Christmas.

Yeah I hope I'm not stuck in traffic by 6pm. Starting a new project tomorrow so yeah lots of unproductive time trying to keep up with everything. Good thing I have not used my credit cards in a long time so if I like what I see I'll pre order for sure.

if it were Christmas, you'd actually have these toys in-hand and be shunning family and guests while you play with them.

I DVR'd Spike's broadcast of E3, showing MS and EA's segments. But there's not programming for Sony's announcement. WTF!?

Because it's nearing primetime

Spike also aired Microsoft's original announcement, so it was probably some sort of deal. EA was also present at Microsoft's announcement, so maybe it was included to also broadcast their presentation.

"what little innovation shown was buried underneath a flurry of gunfire"

"Ryse: Call Of Duty with swords."

"sea of sequels that forced the same tired first-person mechanics "

"scripted action sequences and quick time events"

"subjected to old men in suits, a stream of buzzwords, and superficial games that valued visuals over innovation"

What needs to happen?

Sony CEO announces simply no DRM or used game nonsense, drops the mic, walks off stage. And trailers of Kingdom Hearts, Final Fantasy, Jak, and a slew of PS3 exclusive Namco, Konami, Capcom, Square, Atlus, etc games start playing. Free online play. Use any hard drive you want*to upgrade. $399 with Move gear optional.

Do this and next gen wars are already over.

Fail, Sony, and the start of the video game crash of 2014-2015 has officially begun on 6/10/2013.

*Sony on their history of overpriced proprietary media formats, cough Vita, tell me this is impossible. But heres to hoping Sony is desperate enough to do anything to woo gamers in the poor shape they are in right now.

The thing that scares me most about this, is if Sony fucks up as bad as MS has, all the gamers that are saying /done I'm out this gen... it could potentially dump a lot of demand into the market for old games and systems and raise retro prices to levels more astronomical than they already are.
