no it's not, its $2500 and its the 4520ci.

mine is the 4311ci that was $2500 retail but i got it a few months before the 4520ci came out for $1300.

not sure what the inside of the avr has to do with the "amateurish" vents on the sides of it.

Well if we want to be fair, the 4810ci was 2500ish new plus another 500-800 for a firmware update.

Ya we're too far away. The DRM thing was GREAT for PS4 until I really thought about it.
Like someone said in another thread, we already HAVE DRM for Xbox360 and Ps3. You've had to type in those stupid codes for EA games to be able to play online. You think that PS4 is going to force EA to not do that on their console? EA can simply just say "Good night sweet princess for your sports franchise!" That'd be a massive loss right there in sales on the PS4.

Do you really think the EA shareholders would be happy with them not supporting the PS4 just because they cant get a small % of the second hand market? The idea of EA, Activision, Ubisoft abandoning the PS4 because of no DRM is insane and their shareholders would crucify them if they tried.

After thinking about that, I realize that the No DRM thing is just what it is,a dream. Whether we like it or not, we'll be typing in a code to play online for BF3, or to get roster updates on any sports game from EA.

Typing in a code to get roster update or play online is a far cry from not being able to lend games to your friends, not having the option to rent a game and not needing to jump through hoops to give/sell your games.

To me at the moment, and this is just speculation, MS was just completely honest and got it out of the way ASAP. Take the bad PR 5 months from the console release. Sony is deciding to let people figure out 3-4 months later that EA, and other people will still implement the same DRM they always have.

Really?? Completely honest. What MS are doing is INSANE, it is not just a case of needing to put in codes to play online it is a total restriction of what you are allowed to do with your purchases.

I think you misunderstood - what he is saying is that the PS4 will not have any built in DRM, like Sony said, but neither will they stop game publishers from having their own DRM, like they already do.

So looks like we have a $100 cheaper price point, no Sony DRM server, no ability to use it as a POS quasi-tv box, and a magnitude more capable hardware. If only they weren't lazy about being BC this would be a knockout move.

BC? Really? Everyone knows that's unrealistic and not feasable with modern systems.

Try emulating a core i5 on a i7 except the i5 isn't even x86 ISA.

Well not that close but you get the idea. This isn't like emulating a 8 bit 1 MHz 6502 on a 32/64 bit 200 MHz Pentium.

Porting is the best option, the alternative is adding $100-200 hardware.

I was responding to the second half of the paragraph.

Yeah, not to mention that while the PS4 *is* more powerful than the Xbone in every reasonable way, the CPUs of these next-gen consoles aren't really brute-force machines. It'd be one thing if there was an i7 equivalent in them, but it's more like an 8-core netbook cpu. While that will be okay for optimized games specifically coded for next-gen games, it sort of precludes on-the-fly emulation of last-gen stuff.

I actually had an idea of how they could do emulation though, and that would be to take the biggest last-gen hits and port them to the new system, but only in the engine/game mechanics area, and to stream the FMV, textures, and audio from the PS3 discs. That would necessitate downloads/etc. Basically a huge, expensive PITA that would look awesome from a PR standpoint, but take away from resources that could arguably be better used in putting that manpower to use on next-gen titles. On measure, I think they count on most PS3 users to simply keep their PS3s that want to keep playing PS3 titles. Historically last-gen systems in the US pretty much dry up with new releases and usage fairly quick anyway. I didn't see much Xbox/PS2 action after 2005/2006 either. And SNES was a wasteland almost immediately after N64, PS1 was done after PS2, etc.

Not disagreeing in any way, just commenting and expanding on that front.

Awwwwwwwww snap.

$399, I cannot believe Sony has just taken out MS by $100, that really is surprising to me. Good job on that. $100 cheaper and it has better hardware (although no native Kinect, not that I personally care yet and won't until I see that thing demoed really well on something).

If it didn't look UGLIER than the Xbox One I would pre-order it right now, but I'll need to let it sink in for a few hours at least.

Eyetoy is a 60 dollar addon, and comes with an upgradable 500gb hard drive.

Good god, Sony is knocking it out of the park with this one.

I'd be fine with that. They could have two models, one with BC and one without. I'll pay extra to consolidate 2 consoles and free up an HDMI port.

I'll probably grab one. I need a 3d blu ray player anyways.
What's ps+? Do I need it to play single player games offline? What about online gaming? I really dont want a subscription to anything.

SP I'd be absolutely stunned if PS+ was required. For online, looks like it's the only way to go this round (PS+ for PS4/Vita, XBL for Xbone). But given that they only specified PS+ in the context of online play, it looks semi-confirmed that you don't even need an account to play SP, whereas on Xbone you have to REGISTER each game with your Xbone + online checks every 24h.

I'm not happy about that, but it's about the only bad news with the PS4.

The UPGRADABLE hard drive is a freaking massive plus. Swapping out to 500GB SSD? Yes please. Swapping out to 2TB drives? Yes please. None of this gimped Microsoft BS.

I bought a ps2 just to play final fantasy 10. The ps4 could serve as a Netflix box and 3d blu ray player. If I only play the final fantasy series on it offline I'd feel I'd be getting my moneys worth due to the other features.
Thanks for the info

Still doesn't excuse Vita memory cards though. They haven't figured out that's one major factor in poor Vita reception. Sony isn't quite an angel themselves just yet.

That's not happening ever. People would be in an uproar about consumer confusion etc etc etc.

Buy a switch.

Compared to the crap that ms just pulled they sure look like it. I can't remember another time when two competing products were released and one getting owned so badly.

Aye, I think Vita was a valuable and pricey lesson to Sony.

I only have one game I really play online on console, if that means less in the future cause I don't have ps+ oh well. If the numbers goi bad enough they could always revise that. BC is what will keep me from replacing my original release ps3 anytime soon.

Hey I'm all in camp Sony right now, but lets not forget this was really Microsoft owning themselves.

Sony has done and still is doing similar things like proprietary overpriced Vita memory cards , etc.

Taking a stand against MS is just a first step in redemption.
