EA and I think Sony did for a short period and ditched it afterwards. I dunno who else, but up till 2 months ago EA was.

The point is for all the people that are trying to still say that the PS4's and X1 are the same in DRM when it is not the case at all.

Right I understand you.

I just gave Gamestop $679.95 for my PS4, extra controller, and 3 games too. That was on top of picking up a 3DSXL Animal Crossing bundle and Super mario 3d land for an additional $275.58.

Man I feel like I just went out and bought some components for a new PC.

The DRM is not the same. MS created a system that, in theory, is less intrusive for gamers than what EA was currently doing. They even included ways for people to sell games and such, which is unheard of in the PC market.

Now, the market is rejecting this idea, and I think MS is trying to find out exactly how to turn it off or how much they won't make if they leave it on.

WHAT!!???

No no no... You can trade in the same copy of Madden on PS3 or 360 an infinite number of times and play it on an infinite number of consoles without restriction. The way MS wants it is you can trade, give, or sell it once. After that it's a coaster.

What? You mean they added unnecessary restrictions and then lightened part of them? Gee thanks!

MS stated you can give your game away once. They have also stated that certain retailers will be able to reactivate the game for a fee they pay to MS. Those are two completely separate transactions. One is permanent transfer of a license that is then useless. The other is a deactivation and reactivation by a separate entity.

MS never personally said they put restrictions in place.

All MS said was they developed an infrastructure that allows publishers to use a system if they choose to.

Unless someone has a link showing me otherwise FROM MICROSOFT since I haven't seen all coverage on this topic yet.

The problem again as I've stated before, MS hasn't directly addressed the problem which I'm sure they will when the time comes. Right now, it's just a bunch of hard core gamers complaining and MS isn't in a rush to please a small segment of the gaming population. They'll calculate carefully what their next move is.

That doesn't even address what I said at all.

Let your friend borrow it once, he can play it. After that nobody else can play it. Not your cousin at his house, not your brother at his. As it is now, I can let my friend borrow it, then get it back and loan it to my cousin next.

This is how it's always been. All the way back to even Atari. The industry has grown to rival the movie industry for the entertainment dollar. Making it restrictive with Nazi policies will only hurt the consumers and disenfranchise them. The consumer is the one buying games, piss them off and they stop spending money.

If Sony really wanted to decapitate the xbone in one fell swoop the PS4 would come out next week.

If they wanted the PS4 to come out next week, they'd have to freeze its specs and start manufacturing half a year ago or more. Which means they'd have a significantly less powerful, less feature-rich platform than the competition. They wait until the last minute for a reason.

I'm pretty sure what you're referencing is how publishers can assert fees for trading in their games to the authorized resellers. Microsoft stated that they will not be requesting fees for the service.

This is like making me a 20oz ribeye cooked medium-rare, sitting on a warmed plate on a table in front of me with some [snobby beer] to go with it. The cook isn't forcing me to eat it, but he sure set up one helluva infrastructure for me to do so.

Pretty clear to me the DRM is on by default by MS and the publisher has to opt out of it to allow selling/trading games.

http://news.xbox.com/2013/06/license

We designed Xbox One so game publishers can enable you to trade in your games at participating retailers.

Also it is not the core gamers they should not be fearful of it is the average Joe who will be pissed when he can't lend/trade/sell/rent games. It is the more casual gamers who are more likely to do these things.

Here is a taste of it. Redbox sent out txt to let people know what MS is dong and set up a site for feed back. Lets say soccer moms are not to happy to pay 59.99 every time the kid wants to try a new game.

So I preordered on Amazon about 45 seconds after they started accepting. It lists my delivery date as 12/31/2013 (which I think is earliest possible). Does that mean I secured a launch day console?

Go to the PS4 page on Amazon, and see which one shows up with the yellow Instant Order Update. If you did it last night, you should have the launch edition. When I ordered mine last night, there was no launch or standard, and I ended up with the launch edition.

Most likely yes. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00CMQTVQO/ Select the Launch Edition and see if it says you already placed an order at the top.

DAMN YOU!

I dunno if those dates are accurate. Some of the ps4 games amazon lists as coming out in November. So either the games will be out before the system or they could be out later.

As of now I don't think those dates are accurate.

Both list the same date, standard or launch edition since I looked yesterday and today. I still dont know which retailer to get it from.

Dude it's not that tough to decide...it comes out in November. If someone can guarantee you on launch day then you get it in November. Sony said November back in Feb.

12-31 is just a placeholder date that Amazon uses for things when they don't have a real date from the manufacturer.

I might as well go with amazon and open one of their credit cards so I can get 50 bucks off for the first time. I doubt I would use the card after. I rarely buy stuff on amazon except for phone accessories and small things.

I just checked. Looks like I got the place holder on a Launch Edition. Yay! Maybe I'll move the 55" TV to the bedroom and buy a 80" for the PS4.

It's a pity Sony demands a subscription for playing online. That was the only negative that was announced, and it's a big negative. I had easily picked a PS4 up sooner or later if it had free online multiplayer

Yeah it's a downside but eventually it was going to happen I think. I probably won't play online until a really good game that my friends also get comes out. Mainly because I don't game much online so I'll pay for it when I decide to, it's not that big of a turn off. I've been paying for Netflix so long I don't even notice.
