They did, though seems they're starting to perfect the voodoo magic that gets these things to work. I think a lot of it depends on the condition of your wiring too.

Yea I wasn't expecting to get the good speeds I get now while using them. My apartment building is kinda old too so they must be doing something to make them work without issues.

Just wanted to say thanks to those who helped with my networking questions. The switch is perfect; works like a charm and saves me having to rifle behind my moviecase every time I need to change connections. So yeah, thanks!

Finished Knack. I really enjoyed it. I will probably play it again at some point to try and get some more of those parts and play at a higher difficulty.

I actually used 3D on my home theatre for the first time ever. Downloaded the Trine 2 demo and my system detected it was 3D, so I said ok and took a pair of 3D glasses out of the plastic. Was actually pretty cool; provided some nice depth on the game. Not sure it will be something I do often since it is rather uncomfortable, but kind of neat.

So it looks like February is when the next crop of games come out? Anything super interesting in the next couple of months?

this is why i ran cat5e through my house heh. i don't have to worry about wifi strengths or drop outs.

Not only do I have my consoles hard wired, I have a dedicated 30 Mb internet line for them. Now I don't have to worry about my wife streaming videos while I'm playing games online.

I'm starting to open up to the concept of the Wii U after playing PS4 games on my Vita. Problem is that most of the games it does have are derivative of a lot of stuff that appeared on the Wii. I'm not a Mario fan either. They really need to get a good, original Zelda adventure on there and open up the chest to other franchises that haven't been touched in a while. A modern Star Fox game in HD would be fantastic.

I have a Wii U and I think there is a few ways to look at things when it comes to consoles.

1) The console has to be fun. If the PS4 and XB1's lineup has no games that interest you and the Wii U does, then get a Wii U. The PS4 and XB1 will have a lot more games that appeal to the masses in mid to late 2014, thats when the decent games will start coming.

Until then, Wii U has all the games people have been waiting for, and they're all coming early to mid next year. Mario 3D World, Mario Kart, Super Smash Bro's, X, and who knows whats coming late 2014 or early 2015 (I hope Zelda U and a Metroid game). If you've always liked Nintendo titles, now is the time to get a Wii U.

2) Cost. $400-$500 JUST for a console is a lot. $300 gets you a console and two games if you buy a Wii U right now. Another $60 gets your Mario 3D World and you're still spending less than what a PS4 alone cost. Nothing against a PS4, but we're going to talk pro's and con's... this is a big pro for the Wii U.

and finally...

3) Exclusives. We all know exclusives is what really sales consoles (ex. PS3: God of War, Gran Turismo, Uncharted, Little Big Planet, Infamous, Last of Us, etc.). If you like Nintendo games (Mario, Smash Bros, Mario Kart), 2013 4 QTR and 2014 1-2 QTR is the time to get a Wii U. If you could care less about Nintendo exclusives, there's no reason to even consider a Wii U....but.. if you want the best survival horror game to date (Zombi U), maybe you should consider the Wii U for that game alone (Zombi U is so damn scarey and hard!).

I plan to get a PS4 because I have a lot of faith in Sony's ability to score big contracts to create amazing games. The exclusives the PS3 had were insanely out of this world good. I can't wait to see what the PS4 brings out from Naughty Dog and Sony themselves. However, I won't be getting one anytime soon, I'm thinking I'll get one Q3 next year. Now on to the competition...the XB1.... I have zero faith in Microsoft bringing REALLY good exclusives. All they had with Xbox and Xbox 360 was Halo, Forza series, and... Fable? ( crickets. )

Sadly what you want is also why Nintendo is struggling with all but the casuals. Everything they create these days is derivative of something they made yesterday which is derivate of something they made the day before that. Nintendo hasn't had an original idea in many years. I'm not opposed to seeing major updates to older franchises, but Nintendo is so scared to change the formula that all of the games feel the same. We all love Mario, Metroid, and Zelda...but seriously, how can they ever how to reclaim their place in gaming by constantly whoring those characters out in order to sell the next piece of mediocre hardware they come up with.

The Wii was a fluke, because instead of coming up with new games, they came up with new ways to play the old games. Once people got tired of the gimic, the games couldn't stand on their own and that's where Nintendo is now. How many people bought a Wii just because it let you play emulated versions of NES/SNES games?

Even James Cameron made a billion dollars pushing a gimic (3D in his case), but at some point your product has to stand on its on in spite of the gimic.

If Nintendo really wanted to impress me, they would throw away that Wii U trash and start developing real Mario, Metroid, Star Fox, and Zelda successors on PS4/XB1. They should keep the mobile devices because admittedly those do very well, but they need to just get out of the console market. One solid Zelda game on PS4/XB1 and they can eclipse all Wii U combined game sales to date, not to mention invite Nintendo gamers to the latest gen.

Anyways, that's my rant.

Anteas, you must have never played Wind Waker, Skyward Sword, Mario Kart Wii, Smash Bros or Mario Galaxy (1 & 2). Go look at the review scores on those titles, all above 80 on metacritic. The mass populous of gamers and critics love the "rehashed" Mario/Zelda reincarnations.

People like familiarity and fun. You throw in the nostalgia aspect and it just makes a perfect recipe. It's not like Last of Us was much different than Uncharted, they were basically the same style of game with a partner NPC thrown in. It sold like hot cakes, it got rewards left and right, and its making people buy PS3's right now because you can't play it on PS4. To stop a long post, I'll just say this; people love Nintendo. They will keep making Mario, Zelda, Metroid, "kiddie" games because that's what Nintendo is. If there is no Mario, there no is Nintendo.

You've got a point. Just to preface, I have zero problem with kiddie games. In fact, I think Sony and MS can learn a thing or two about how to push content to younger audiences. I just think that Nintendo as a company would be better off focusing on software and not on what I would call gimicy hardware. That said, I cede to your point that ultimately people love Nintendo and continue to buy whatever they sell.

That's one of the hardest things I have about looking for a home. It's definitely got to have Ethernet wired in it or not be too painstaking to get it done. I also wouldn't mind HT hook-ups so I can get rid of other unsightly cables.

Yup and Knack outsold Super Mario 3D World (though Knack was bundled with some PS4's and they count bundled titles as well).

Super Mario 3D World also had fairly lukewarm sales (107K units) in Japan as well. The latest Final Fantasy game also didn't do that well. Maybe people are tired of Square's garbage?

I've been tempted to get a Wii U lately, but I won't pay $300 for one. At best, I'll go with $250 and that's with a physical game. I also checked eBay, but people are trying to get rid of large bundles full of terrible Wii games or jacking up the price because they included Call of Duty: Black Ops 2.

I've tried out Trine in 3D on my desktop, and it's certainly a nice experience. It's probably one of the best 3D games that I've tried.

Did you use active or passive?

Infamous: Second Son comes out 3/21.

The hardware really holds back the potential. It has for years. I can only imagine what they would do with Zelda on the ps4 hardware. Not to drag it too far off topic but didn't Nintendo admit that they didn't know how to handle or work in HD? Like they didn't realize they needed a new development approach and more staff working on a particular title?

Active I guess. They have an on-off switch, so I assume that makes them active? They just came with my projector.

I'll look at Infamous, thanks. I am mildly intrigued by Mad Max as well.

Active glasses usually have some sort of battery and require a connection to tell the shutter when to flicker. Passive glasses are lighter and dont use a battery, it is closer to what you have when watching a 3D film at the theater.

Well these were not all that heavy, but they came with a micro-usb cable for charging. They also paired with the projector when I turned them on.

So whatever that is, that is what I am using.

Definitely more substantial than the theatre glasses.

Active then. I have no idea if there is a difference in picture quality.

Is there any word on them patching in 3D Blu-ray ability anytime soon? Was going to grab The Hobbit so I could catch up before Smaug comes out, but if it's not going to be until next year then there is no point in doing it now.

Yeah, Nintendo made some comment to that effect. It really made a lot of people go wtf too. Yes, we know Nin didn't have to deal with HD with the Wii, but they should of been taking notes from everyone else in the industry that was dealing with HD. Instead they stuck their heads in the sand and when it came time for them to start making HD games, they were like <insert racist sounding asian accent> oh noes, we really in trouble now!

You can still catch up by watching the 2D version on PS4.

Yeah I know and I will, but I was on Amazon and thought it might be worth grabbing the 3D version. Sounds like we could be waiting a while though.
