Not really.

The problem with great multiplayer is that it relies on other people, usually strangers, to MAKE it great.
Left 4 Dead was one of the best mp experiences I've had, but all it took was one douche or two and your gaming night was basically ruined.

It's great if you have a huge network of trusted friends for a bunch of different games, but if not, it's a total crapshoot.

I understand that but I love both equally. There are some experiences that are impossible in single player and some impossible in multi player. I love games like Battlefield with the huge insane battles that show how great multi-player can be, and I love other games like The Last of Us that show is that great story telling still exists. What I don't like either tacked on single player or tacked on multi-player. I never touched the single player for Battlefield and never touched the multi-player for The Last of Us.

Agreed but battle field is a squad game, best played with a good group. I havent been on multiplayer much since playing with randoms isn't fun for me. No one uses the Mic, because they are probably in a party chat. Very few actually stick together through matches. 90% of the time if my team is sucking it's because the other team is usually a clan.

As you say, at the end of the day you're just showing off stats to people you don't even know. It really is chasing personal validation to a large extent.

I agree and great choice of words especially on the validation part!

That being said multiplayer on the other hand CAN be a great experience as well. I think for me personally, if you look at the overall picture of the multiplayer experience, its about the "socialization" part or the social aspect that appeals to a lot of people.

A good analogy is like rooting for your favorite sports team. Its fine to have a favorite team or athlete you personally like, but also the fact you go to the sporting event, sports bar or friend's house and commune with other people together. The social aspect of it.

Although I barely try co-op modes out, I'm think co-op games are a good alternative as well. You play with 1 or more other people and have a common goal of beating the various levels of the single player game. It helps to maybe communicate as well to max out your overall enjoyment experience. And maybe possibly make a friend or two....

It may be partly because I've not been into PC gaming for years, and multi-play on a console--if interacting at all--involves a headset. This is not only loud but also invites me talking to children who curse a lot. I don't want to do it.

Co-op is damn fun but I've not done it in many years. I need to make more of a concerted effort, but as a person gets older it becomes trickier to organize with people one actually knows irl.

Another gripe factor I forgot to mention for online mulitplayer gaming is a laggy internet connection. And also all the variables that come into play on who gets host connection, what speeds each connection plays at and connection quality, etc.
I guess I've been playing too much P2P connection based shooters so I just might have had bad experiences as a result.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. I think all the developers SHOULD just include offline and online multiplayer bots to all their multiplayer games. Its great for people with bad or slow internet connections and it increases the replay value of most multiplayer games. Also, no one shouting through their mic yelling at you.

Lastly, I just picked up Sniper Ghost Warrior 2 today and its a pretty decent fps game because its unique and uses the cry engine 3. I recommend this game to anyone into sniping. I will try out sniper elite v2 next time.

I got one of only two ps4's left in Albuquerque last night, and I am loving my system but do have some gripes.

1. Is there any way to only show the video apps you downloaded in the tv and video section? I got IGN, Netflix, and Amazon video, but it shows all of the other ones and doesn't put IGN at the top with the other two.

2. It really sucks that second players can't unlock trophies on their own account. My wife and I were playing knack (which is very fun) and she didn't get any trophies. This is something the Xbox can do, so I am hoping they fix this in the future.

3. The light bar is way too bright. In dark scenes, it was distracting seeing red and blue reflections in the tv. I will probably buy those light decals when they are available.

4. I love the light being on on the system when I am playing, but hate the bright orange light when it is on stand by mode.

As you can see, my gripes are pretty minor. I love the UI, it seems a lot sleeker than the XB1, which surprised me because I am a pretty big Xbox fan. The controller is miles better than the DS3, and it very comfortable to use for long periods of time. The store could use some work. It was laggy at times for me, and I hate that everything has to be splashed with "Get Plus now" when I already have it.

You can get trophies for a second player in games, Knack doesn't support it, I assume because the second player isn't really playing the game, they are just helping.

1) Not sure about this one, would be nice to be able to manually arrange items though.

2) I think the game has to support it when playing co-op.

3 & 4) Put some electrical tape over the lights. Its black so no light will shine through and electrical tape comes off without much of a fuss... as long as it doesn't get really hot.
Luckily, the top of the PS4 doesn't really get hot. Our PS4 is in our bedroom and it sits on top of our his/her desk. I don't mind the orange light. The PS4 is my nightlight.

I picked up the new Sony Gold Wireless Headset yesterday at Best Buy which are $100. I'm coming from an older set of Tritton Ax 720 which are a wired surround sound headset. The 720 sounded pretty good and directional position was done well, only thing was that the mic had no way to work with the PS4, were wired and were heavy. I wanted my mic to work and hated being tied to the console. I picked up the Gold Headset and they are very light which is great for extended play sessions, mic works well, sound quality is pretty good but won't blow you away, directional sound works very well, and for the price they are definitely worth it. They connect with a USB dongle and were basically just plug and play, didn't have to configure anything. Also looks like there will be custom sound modes four certain games like inFamous that you can load onto the headset. I'm definitely satisfied with the purchase.

Thanks for the quick review. I'm currently up in the air over them.

I just turn mine off when I'm not using it, unless I'm downloading a big file. The PS4 consumes quite a bit of power in standby mode. Until the suspend/resume game feature goes live, it's not really worth it in my case.

This is one area where I think the PS3 does a much better job than it's successor. You can set it to power on at a specific time. Then it syncs all trophy info and downloads/installs any updates, and turns itself off when it's done. I have mine setup to do this while I'm at work, so it's always up to date.

There should be a big update that fixes the niggling things about the PS4 OS in the next few months.

Same here. Wireless solution would be nice compared to what I'm doing now. Optical out > amp > headphones with like a 10' cable.

They're not audiophile but sound just fine, but it's worth it for the wireless, I don't have to take them off if I need to go to the bathroom or grab something to drink real quick. I hated having a long cable as well, everything is wireless now, not even a wire connecting to the controller.

What? How does one do this?

The automatic network save feature has helped me the few times I accidentally overwrite a wrong save or delete one.

I agree with your use of the word should, but it's no replacement for will. It does appear that Sony has one developer working part time on patches from what I can tell.

Until the system can actually play MP4s or access a DLNA server I will consider its OS incomplete.

Oh, and of course the suspend feature which I doubt I'll use a ton anyway really should have been there already, considering it was mentioned last year. I think they haven't put it in place because it's turned out to be much harder than they thought. I honestly wonder if it will ever even be there.

While i'm on the topic, until they can make this thing stay in standby without running the fan, I won't use it. That's weak. I built a computer recently with Windows 8 and when it sleeps basically nothing is running and it can still pop back to login screen within a second of me touching the mouse. That's a proper stand by. I dunno, on the other hand a fan can generally run a number of years before going bad.

That sucks if it's only one developer working on patches. But the fan runnin would probably be due to the fact that while in standby the system needs to be able to have certain components running so it can continue to download in the background.

If you put your pc to sleep while downloading something, your download will not be complete when you wake the pc up.

Thats one of their features they want to have especially for updates of games and such.

I'm with you on the dlna and mp3/4 support. Their boss said it would be in a software update so we will see, but who knows.

I don't think we will see prime time for these consoles by next year. That is everything running without issues, all features included...seems to be going pretty slow but they did just only come out so it's expected.

I finally looked for the firmware update for my Astro A50's. I'm back in business with a wireless headset now just in time for Outlast....fml that game is scary.

There's an argument going around the web, might have even been on here, that the PS4 was released too early. Sony wanted to get the jump on the Xbone and launched a product with complete hardware but half completed software. It explains why DriveClub got delayed, and why it got released in North America months before Japan.

The fact that it still can't do everything its predecessor can is getting very annoying.

Both next-gen consoles are like this though.

1) Is there a way to turn off the notification that my controller has automatically turned off due to its 10 minute timeout? I have all notifications turned off in the Settings>Notifications menu but I still get this popup. When watching Netflix/Amazon/etc. it means that 10 minutes into everything I watch I get the popup, which is somewhat annoying.

2) Also, is there a way to automatically log back in as myself when, at the end of a stream, I turn the controller back on? On initial boot I have my PS4 automatically log into my profile (the only profile on the PS4), but when I turn on the controller and the PS4 is already on and already logged into my profile, I get a prompt asking me whether I'm myself or whether I'd like to create a new profile for some reason.
