I am kind of wondering what the difference between the free psn+ edition and the disk or digital download version. I remember it specifically called PSN+ edition or something.

They said the PSN edition will be missing some cars and tracks but otherwise be the entire game iirc.

so a free to play game that requires a sub to ps+...

interesting how no one is complaining about that yet people are complaining about killer instinct working that way...

Because fighters usually aren't released that way. Especially one that has a history.

I thought Killer Instinct was F2P with DLC content no?

Lets see. They are giving Drive Club a PS+ Edition at launch that is the full game minus some tracks and cars. Or you can purchase the entire game as normal. They haven't announced anything else on it yet but will in the future they said. Most likely they will offer a cheap upgrade to the full game price to unlock everything.

It is a very nice incentive to getting PS+ if you don't have it already for the launch of the system, they are giving you a launch title essentially.

KI. They are giving you 1 freaking guy, 1. That isn't f2p that is a demo. And don't even act like the entire single player is going to be worth shit, we all know fighting games single player is loltastic at best. Yes KI gives you the option to purchase the the entire game as well instead of just a character or bundles or whatever.

the way the devs explained it is that the game can be purchased fully day 1. however instead of releasing a traditional demo they are releaseing a f2p version of the game. it's the full game with all of the game modes, but you can only select jago as your fighter. you can play single player, or hop online, but can only use jago.

then if you want, you can buy the full game. or if you see some specific characters you have interest and know you don't have interest in others, you can purchase them specifically. they will also be selling "bundles" of characters.

but they still have other things announced as far as the game goes and different content and how to purchase it. but above is what they've said so far.

as far as content goes, it's the FULL GAME of ki but with only 1 character. i'd say the equivalent in the racing genre would be the full set of tracks with a couple cars available. and i say a couple cars available because racing games usually have like 150+ cars total, where fighters are like 25-40 characters (typically).

Have they stated what "minus some cars and tracks" actually means? 50%? 10%? 99%? Do we actually know how full the game will be? Or is it just a demo? Sony also charged for the GT demo... I mean prologue.

Um...cause it's not a free to play game at all. If you buy drive club you need PSN+ to use it, it's multiplayer oriented. Just like someone buying CoD and not for campaign. So you sign up to PSN+ and they'll hand you the game, minus a few things. They aren't releasing a game stripped of everything and having you pay for the content you should get on the disk.

No, they said they would release more details later. Even if they take half tracks and cars away that essentially makes it a GT Prologue.

Personally I don't care about Drive Club, but I'll give it a shot because I already have PS+. If I dig it, cool I will get it, otherwise no harm done getting to play a extended demo of a launch title.

I think that's their hope. They can get enough people to have the game thanks to PSN+ edition and they'll wanna just buy the full thing. I don't think there was enough real interest in it otherwise.

no matter what way you want to spin it, it's a free to play game.

it is just amusing that the sony fanboys use ki f2p as a negative, but drive club f2p as a positive.

I was initially concerned about Killer Instinct but if they're releasing the full game for $60 like any other game then I don't see the problem. Well, except for the very real chance that they nickel-and-dime everyone, even people who did buy the full game, by constantly trickling in new overpriced DLC. But nickel and diming has been going on with fighting games for a long time - just look at how many different editions of Street Fighter 2 there were.

there is a developer video that explains everything, and he even goes to say "our goal is not to nickle and dime people who want the full killer instinct experience" so take that for what is worth. based on everything i've heard from the developers, this game is headed in the right direction BIG time with development.

as far as the iterations go, that is just how it is with capcom games. that is their history with street fighter. and the new editions of sf2 are just that - new editions with totally different properties. to the casual fighter i can see how they don't see many changes, but there are large changes for the most part.

Nah, I think of this as a demo. If the bundle is the same as whatever the game would be, then that's what the game is costing. Saying F2P is very misleading. That basically means ALL demos are F2P games.

It's not free to play because free to play isn't paywalled by Sony.

Did you forget that!?

I thought that F2P was partially paywalled by Sony. Maybe it's most accurate to describe it as "not NECESSARILY paywalled," so you can access F2P games without a PS+ membership, but only for single player F2P games. So Drive Club is still paywalled, not because it's F2P, but because it's a multiplayer-only game.

Sort of like Battlefield 1943 on Xbox 360. I bought the game a while back and now it's unplayable for me because I don't have Xbox Live Gold and thus can't play against other people, and it's a multiplayer-only game.

Sony titles that are free to play are not paywalled. Other devs can choose. Drive Club is published by Sony

They're giving you a big demo and calling it "PSN+ Edition" hoping you like it enough to just buy the game.

Sony came out and said that Free 2 Play games are totally up to the dev/pub where they want to place them. They can be part of PS+ or not. So basically no f2p is going to be behind a paywall because why would they want to limit their audience any. I believe Sony said that DCUO and Warframe would not be behind the paywall either and their are available at launch.

if you want to play drive club online, then you have to pay for ps+.

just like if you want to play killer instinct online, you have to pay for xbl.

Yeah but that doesn't make it F2P. Killzone will have some multiplayer too. Optional.

F2P is more like a game is released and you get limited items/weapons/characters/maps whatever. If you want more, you pay for it. (some people call it pay to win I guess)

There are few fully featured games that are both free and give you the whole experience right away.
