*** HOT OFF THE PRESS ***

I called the company yesterday afternoon and the estimates are ready, but the guy that has them is in Minn/St.Paul for the rest of the week and he locked his office. (Starting to think he's a member of "The Dark Side" :Q Did I say that out loud? )

However, the CAD department was nice enough to get me a second copy the blue prints! There's about 5 pages outlining the design and I really like what I see! (sorry no pics, the sheets are huge and we don't want to let out our secret do we?
)

All of this is coming from a small company in a small town, but the big delay is our local high school girls volleyball team is in Minn/St. Paul all week. They just won one of three games as they battle for the state championship and for a once in a lifetime event, it really clears out the entire town to include letting school out Thursday and Friday. :Q (Wish I had a day off !!)

Myself, I will be out of town for a while, but I'm going to see if I can find a ISP at my destination to keep you all informed and get my daily dose of stats to feed my habit.

Man, we are so close!! I'm so pumped !! I can't wait to turn the power on, pop the bubbly and toast the completion of the first rack! And yes, I'll make sure there are PICS!

According to the "How long does it take to complete one wu?" page, a 366 MHz Celeron at 550 MHz puts out one WU on average every 10.5 hours. Add in some overhead for the SMP, and that might be 11 hours (I pulled that number out of my ***, so take all calculations from here on with a grain of salt). Thus, a SMP system with two 550 MHz Celerons would put out around 4.36 WUs per day. Multiply that by however many systems there will be in the racks, and that's your answer.

I wouldn't be surprised if a dualie Cel 366@550 system would do nearer 12hrs/WU ,so about 4WU's/day.................... ok so I'm arguing about 0.36 WU's/day

I see one problem the DEA is going to be over at the house checking for plants being grown in the basement cause of the high power consumption. Saw that once on TV

I have read about people who keep exotic saltwater fish and inverts (the latter require special high-intensity metal halide lights) getting raided by the DEA because their power usage is "too high." Guess it could happen with computers, too.

The would love to see the DEA come over to my house after the BEOWULF is up. They would fry in court! I have enough
law enforcement experience that it would take more then just a high power bill to raise their suspicion
to want to do anything to me. I don't have windows in the basement either, so they would have to get a search
warrant. Even if it happened, I would love to see the reaction on their face when they see nothing but computers!

Hey? Maybe we could assimulate the DEA after they see our great setup? (j\k)

I recently bought a Abit BP6 with 2 Celeron 366 and HSF. I had intended to donate this to the Beowulf project.

Unfortunately, I have had some monetary setbacks recently and I need to raise some $$$. If anyone wants to purchase this board from me and then donate it to the Beowulf project, I will ship it directly to LANMAN.

If anyone is interested, let me know!

Yea, I want to see STAR up soon.

Which reminds me, I still haven't got any recent pictures of my setup. Need to load camera drivers so pictures can be downloaded from CompactFlash because I don't have a standalone reader, but camera drivers suck ass. I guess I should just go ahead and get a CF reader. Wait, that money would be better spent upgrading my computer to do F@H faster. But a CF reader would make downloading pictures more convenient. Which is more important, F@H or convenient picture downloading? You decide.

Oh yea, bump!

yeah, and if DEA take action crunch-monster's racks can be split by the several memers to reduce power consumption per member, maybe?

I have no problem my electric bill is half what it use to be.
What I did is that 3 wires come into the house.
One is ground.
2 are black and from black to black is how u get 220 volts.
And from ground to one black lead is how u get 120 volts.
So basicly to ballance the transformer load one room uses one black wire and the next room uses the other black wire.
(Also it prevents problems of bad case grounds of having 220 volts if you touch 2 different outlets that use 2 different wires and bad appliances or stereos or whatever.)

So what I did was behind the wall where the built in meter is I paralleled one black wire to bypass one black wire and now the meter run half as slow. I did this at the right time of the year so the power co-op wouldn't inspect.
