I just got a email from the company and they are ready for pickup. I'll be stopping in this afternoon to see the finished product.

If their open late, I'll have to run home and get my truck to haul them to the hosting site and start putting things together!

I'll take a few pics here and there so everyone can see so stay tuned!!

Hehe.. some of my married friends tell me that their "honey do" pots are more like 55-gallon drums! :Q

Good news for our SETI team here too - my XP2000 processors arrived today(yes, that's plural), as well as my OC'd P4 1.6@2.4

Gonna be busy building and upgrading the rest of the week.

Since your dealing with such a large number of boards and such an array of differn networking hardware it might be economical to net boot with the motherboard boot rom "bios". out out souceing might be expensive (though you'd get a bulk rate), you could allso look into doing it your self.

I have never done this before, but I'v hear of it beeing done.

worth a thought... it would cut out the unreliabiliy of floppy drives, and old hard drives... while still allowing the use of cheaper network cards with out boot roms.

We need to get a web site for this thing. There could be real-time (flash?) progress stats on what it's working on and stuff like that.

Now thats a cool idea... dunno about flash, If we had a directory structure like "/usr/local/seti/seti01", "/usr/local/seti/seti02" etc.. we could create a script to "cat /usr/local/seti/seti01/state.sah > seti01.txt" and grep the "progress=64.31%" into something MySQL and have a PHP frontend... I think...

If each system were to NFS mount its folder for SETI from a central server, this would make monitoring easier, and it would also simplify upgrades to the SETI client (such as when SETI 2 is released).

Broadband yes, static IP, not necessarily

I guess that would work too.
I would think that the upstream bandwidth provided by cable or DSL would be sufficant since it's not going to have too many visitors per day. Dont most ISPs not approve of running severs though?

Do we have an address we're going to be using for the Enterprise? (enterprise@domain.com)

enterprise@teamanandtech.com?

Who's the admin for that domain? That's cool with me, if they can make it so.

--LANMAN
I think ViRGE is the guy who's in charge of that...at least that's the rumor that I've heard.

Anyway, there's been talk in the past of setting up a "Sexy Team AnandTech Rigs" site, and during that discussion it was mentioned that the possibility existed of putting a subdomain under teamanandtech.com and forwarding it to some other IP address (IIRC). If someone with a static IP address could host it, we could have a web site with pictures, paypall button for donations, and realtime stats, and it could be reached by the address enterprise.teamanandtech.com

The question is, who has the knowledge to code the real-time stats?

I have been learning about PHP, and just finished the chapter on reading from and writing to files in "PHP and MySQL Web Development" a week ago. Perhaps by the time this all gets set up, I might know enough not only to read the SETI client's status files, but also to derive some useful information from the content therein.

Sounds good, hopefully you can do that. Anybody have any ideas of what kind of stats could be included?
I assume that this will be fed off of it's own Q so that it stays productive.

MereMortal is more than a mere mortal when it comes to coding PHP and MySQL stuff.

Just look at all the stats for projects he's done (ECCp, SoB, F@H to name just a few)

In my eyes, he's a genious with this stuff! Also, Soni knows a lot about ASP/MSSQL etc, seeing as he does/teaches it for a living

I wish he'd have done some PHP script or something for F@H stats... doing them all by hand takes me about 15 minutes each evening, time which I have, but which I wish I could use more efficiently. That's one of the (main) things that's driving me to teach myself PHP and MySQL.

I am sure if MereMortal has the time he would set you up with a script.

15 minutes! After 5 I would just give up and say oh well.
