The International is an annual Dota 2 championship tournament by Valve involving 16 global teams. This year's 4th installment is the historic in prize pool.

I think this deserves it's own thread since TI4 now has the single biggest tournament prize pool in eSports history ($9.3 million USD and counting RAPIDLY).

They will be free to watch in full 1080p glory streaming at Dota2.com.

I'm not really into esports, but I think I'll most likely be sitting down and watching this one. Watching professional Dota 2 players compete against each other for such a massive amount of money should be quite a sight. Also, having actually played a fair bit of Dota 2, I'll be able to observe strategies that the pros use and compare them to my own.

Good luck to everyone involved, and not to derail but I can't be the only person who finds no enjoyment in watching others do things? Never been into watching people play sports of any sort. :/

Hm, I'm the opposite.

I LOVED playing games back in college, during easy jobs, and unemployment. Played it too much.

Now my 20s are gone and my job is kicking my ass, the last thing I want to do is play an intense game like Dota or Starcraft (hurt my eyes & head gets blurry).

I much rather enjoy watching them- just like watching any pro sports.

Or play a really casual game like Hearthstone (online card game like MTG).

That's alot of money. In comparison, the Daytona 500 has roughly 20mil purse while lesser races like Bristol are around 6mil.

With that much $$$ on the line I'm suprised there isn't TV coverage. Crap can network like G4 could use a boost.

Hey, $7.50 of that prize pool was from me!

TI4 is definitely going to be huge. 2013 highest tournament prize pool was... TI3! At $2.8 million. This year it won't even be close.

I would definitely consider attending the event even though tickets are $500. But even with the much larger venue they sold out within hours.

Just can't get into watching Dota, despite loving to play it. I watched A LOT of Sc2 WCS finals last weekend though.

I'll start watching TI4 when it starts to narrow down next week.

This is actually how you get better too, learning what the pros do, similar to watching tape of the opposing team in other sports.

Newbee takes TI4 and the $5M along with it. Grats to them for convincingly beating every single team past round robin.

Great tournament overall. Probably the best one yet. Hate to see Burning coming up short again but as fan of the game, I was satisfied with every game, even the somewhat lackluster grand finals. If TI5 happens in Seattle next year again, I'll have to convince the wife to let me attend.

Kind of an anti-climactic ending. VG got absolutely stomped in the final 3 games. The rest of the tourney was really good though.

Very anti-climactic ending, it was nothing compared to last year. Darude was pretty sweet from the after party though.. What song?
