Nintendo has officially announced the Wii U launch date, pricing, and game lineup today. Looks like it's going to come in two flavours like the 360 and PS3 originally did. A $300 8gb standard model and a $350 32gb model. Doesn't look like the standard model comes with a pack-in game like the Wii did. The Deluxe version comes with "Nintendo Land"

Not much info on specs. It has an IBM mulit-core CPU, AMD GPU, 25gb optical discs, 1080p output via HDMI (comes with cable!). It also seems to be backwards compatible with the Wii since it supports the Wiimote Plus.

Super Mario Bros. U will be a launch title.

It supports video streaming (Hulu, Netflix, network TV, etc) and seems to have better online options.

It will launch on Nov 18th. No word on what other launch titles they'll be besides the two mentioned.

I'm surprised it took this long for a thread.

Easily expandable memory is good but with such small internal memory stock, people are going to need to upgrade within a few months even with the premium system. Because as we know, games are much larger now and games use the hard drive to speed up loading times. Plus buying Wiiware games etc will add up.

Lots of games getting launch releases which is great but none really grab me as a must buy. Some look cool, tons are games we already have on other systems but if you've only ever owned a Wii and not a PS3/Xbox, getting those games on a Nintendo system is a good thing. The Tivo/DVR thing is cool too but again not a must have.

This seems to me that if you've only owned a Wii and not a PS3 or Xbox 360, this is a perfect upgrade for you and you get to play tons of games that were only on other systems. I might buy this for my gf for Christmas because it'll be perfect for her with the streaming and gaming options and I'll be able to play it whenever I go over.

I need.... games.... I don't care about the hardware... I need some good solid games that take advantage of the hardware and I'm sold.

Keep in mind that's launch window, as I've read it. Games out between launch and March 2013. Not a bad list though.

Yes. It's just a list of games coming out within about a 3 month period.

I'm surprised it took this long for a thread.

Same. I was tempted to make one.

This seems to me that if you've only owned a Wii and not a PS3 or Xbox 360, this is a perfect upgrade for you and you get to play tons of games that were only on other systems.

Will this provide any benefit to people who never owned a Wii versus just buying a Wii?

It will launch on Nov 18th. No word on what other launch titles they'll be besides the two mentioned.

What seems weird to me is that it actually launches in the United States before Japan. Crazy!

i was tempted to preorder one when i got the email from gamestop today, but then i remembered how nintendo has suckered me into buying their last 2 shitty consoles at launch, to be solely disappointed pretty quickly after launch and selling the damn thing.

but i did buy those consoles a few years later.

im sure when launch comes around i will fall into the hype and buy one though

i just always have to have the newest console.

As a fellow Technophile, I feel your pain. I regularly check IGN's Vita section in some ill-conceived hope that there will actually be news about good games for the console.

This is the only console I just can't bring myself to buy on launch. I waited out in the cold for the wii, but I've just lost all my faith. Next year the hardware will be cheaper, there will be more quality games...and I still don't know if I'll care.

I'd prob buy the new old new mario...if it came out on the ps3 or 360.

LittleBigPlanet Vita is supposed to be very good according to early reviews. Unfortunately the Vita is the poster child for wasted potential in video gaming.

Surprised these don't come with mechanical storage, guessing you can add an external HDD over USB, but isn't that a bit of a bottleneck as far as loading times?

Note that it doesn't come with Wii controllers just the new TV one. So if you're like me and don't already own a Wii you'll need to buy those.

I'm not seeing much in the launch lineup that I wouldn't rather get for my PS3, 360 or gaming PC.

Figures. Not one title on that list is an exclusive or original title. Just some new "edition" of existing games that have already been rehashed 15 times on every other platform.

Console gaming is officially dead to me. At least anything after PS2.

Batman, Call of Duty, Tekken, Wheel of Fortune, Madden, Mass Effect, blah blah blah blah. I see all the usual suspects are lining up and eager to cash in with their recycled garbage from 4 generations ago.

OMFG WOW. Fckn srsly? Looks like the launch list of the original Xbox, Xbox 360, Wii, Ps3, etc... its really getting old guys.

Oh wait, no Sponge Bob?

We've been given a little more detail on the technical specifics too, with the Wii U packing 1GB of its own ("main") memory alongside 1GB for running games.

So it will come with 2gb of ram but 1 GB is dedicated for the OS/apps only?

It's weird that an embedded OS would need that much dedicated RAM. Though maybe they've got a few tricks up their sleeve with it.

Another crapy Nintendo that the masses will gobble like pigs at a trough.

What are the odds this is sold out by Christmas? Probably high.

So basically the same concept behind the Dreamcast VMU is supposed to be the cornerstone of Nintendo's new console? This is some innovation worthy of Apple right here.

It's basically a super charged VMU which was a cool concept back then. The VMU had a ton of potential and this does as well, they obviously need to make sure to make good use of it. Obviously the ability to play all your normal console games on it is very awesome for many people especially kids or guys without man caves.

There will be thousands sitting in a warehouse but every store will be out of stock.

Purposely limit supply to make it appear like a hot item and get everyone trying to get one just because they think they can't.

Just like every console release since PS2.

It's a little off-topic, but I tried LittleBigPlanet on the PS3, and I just never got into it. I didn't care much for the whole foreground + background style platforming as it seemed to frustrate me more than allow me to enjoy the game. Also, I'm a sucker for a good story.
