A game they pushed a lot during E3 as a launch game to show off the new Kinect won't even release when the system does, not until next Spring.

Hadn't heard a single thing about this game at E3 until now, lol.

The only Kinect-exclusive game I remember hearing about was Fantasia.

I think the kinect being bundled is one of the reasons the cost was higher. If they dropped the price and removed it, that would not be as good as just dropping the price. The have already said the device does not have to be used at all, just plugged in (which has something to do with the Kinect processing chip being inside the console I suspect; a developer said they "lost the battle of having it's own chip on the device" so who knows).

If they price matched the PS4, they will have a much higher perceived value over the PS4 because they are including what was a $100-150 add on the previous generation.

They probably want the public to have a clear understanding of the XB1 so there are no misunderstandings. prior to launch. This is probably the last major event that is going to have the gamer's attention before ramping up to the holiday season.

A price drop is needed. MS really needs to pull its head out of its ass with pricing. They should have learned from the Surface debacle. They did the right thing and dumped the Zynga-Douche, now they need to keep undoing all the damage he did to the XBone.

Hopefully, they learn from what happened at their past press events. They didn't let people with actual knowledge of how things work answer questions with market speak and guesses. They need to give real information on what the features do and not "you will know more later!" garbage.

What are you talking about? Do you really think being priced at $500 will stop this from selling? Not even close. I sold quite a few Wiis around Christmas in 2006 for over $700 each. Early adopters don't care about the price.

The last couple months are so bizarre, I've never seen such a thing. But it's slowly working out.

Yeah that would be nice, but if they drop kinect from it all together that means kinect isn't a requirement for the console to work, which is what I would personally prefer.

But, MS can afford to lose money to get their install base up. Matching the PS4 in price would be ideal for them, because the Kinect acts as some added bonus.

I just assume make everybody have the Kinect or get rid of it entirely from the generation. Sold alone, it's a gimmick. Sold with every console, it has a ton of potential for innovative uses down the line.

just because it comes with every console doesn't mean it isn't a gimmick or has any potential. i mean look at the six axis with the ps3. hardly ANY games used it for anything, and the ones that did just tacked on some stupid shit.

and i think it does have potential though, but they haven't shown me anything yet that gets me excited. i'd think they would try to show games utilizing the kinect before x1 comes out to get people excited for it.

EDIT:

also the logistics of me using kinect with my home theater really isn't going to work out without me running a cable across the carpet from my a/v closet and mounting the kinect on my center channel speaker that is angled up. on top of that, i can't really stand and play games because i would be blocking part of the projected image on the screen.

The early rumor was PS4 for $499 and I was fully prepared to pay that much for it. I don't think it's unreasonable for them to target that price point.

But they've already stated most things or had them leaked (e.g. independent developer self-publish). Supposedly, self-publishing was going to be their big reveal for Gamescom.

yeah that would be awesome. the competition this generation is already becoming a win for us as consumers, and the consoles aren't even out yet.

Yea it's fairly crazy right now, even with the One debacle I wouldn't be surprised if both consoles outsell the Wii U within their first year (lifetime sales).

Well I meant launch price, It's seriously doubtful either way since Microsoft is in a much better position to take a larger loss on hardware than Sony. It'd be interesting to see the results though.

Leaks and rumors are not the same as going out on stage and outlining everything. A good 99% of all gamers don't read forums.

The Wii-U sold like 160,000 units last quarter. I don't imagine it will be hard to outsell it. Now, if Nintendo decides to get their stuff together and start putting out games for the Wii-U, they might see an increase in sales.

I don't think Sony would drop the price, they'd likely try to enhance value like they've done with the PS3, so they'd maybe include PS+ free for a few months plus a free game or two when signing up for +, which would help them push that.

IIRC there were rumors that Sony was prepared to go to $349 if Microsoft was at $399 or tried the $299 contract deal, but that might have all been conjecture.

I really thought that an aggressive $299 price to start with (and losing some to build the install base) but keeping it at that price for say 3-4 years might have been a good move. Basically come out and say that you think the price is good and that there won't be any price drop for a long while so there's no reason not to buy one as soon as possible. Then be aggressive about lowering your component cost (die shrinks) to get profitable ASAP.

I certainly wouldn't complain if Microsoft tried to go to $399 and Sony moved to $349 or less.

Wasn't the Xbox (orig) 499 when it came out and the PS3 was 699?

It is actually surprising that people are looking for these to come out at lower price points than those that were released so long ago.
