He says "4k rated HDMI cable".

Surprised it has a headset in the box too. I like the packaging, pretty slick. Also disappointed in the power brick but maybe it will help keep the thing cooler and quieter or something.

Those bricks (at least the current 360 ones) get pretty hot, so having that heat not inside the case will help.

As far as the 4k rated HDMI cable, it will work on the current crop of 4k TVs (which don't support the new HDMI spec anyway). Not like there is any 4k content to be displayed for them.

This video made me think two things:

1.) Great, comes with a headset, saves me $25.
2.) They already have these things boxed up? I'm sure this is a first off the line kind of deal, but if they're already producing these and getting them ready for retail, are we going to see them earlier than November?

The Endgadet article says it is like 1 of 20 retail units that are ready. I am sure they have a few advanced units to show off for the press (like in this video).

True on both points. I like a sleek a/v rack though. Have to hide the brick lol.

October would be great, because I could pretend it was a birthday present for myself. As if I wouldn't have bought it in any other month. >_>

im hoping it is the amazon release date (at the latest), because that is my actual birthday and if it's that day i will take that day off of work, have a busy thanksgiving with family, then 3 days to geek out with killer instinct.

Reading about the controller, and I am really happy with some of the features.
Engadget said:
Also of note, the video's subsequent blog post reveals that Xbox One gamepads recharge using microUSB rather than the proprietary cable used for charging Xbox 360 gamepads. Moreover, when the One's gamepad is plugged in, the internal wireless radio is turned off and it transmits data through the wire (which was not the case with the 360 gamepad). This has interesting implications for the One's gamepad in PC applications, which we'll assuredly explore more in the coming weeks as Gamescom returns to Cologne, Germany for another year of Euro-style game news.
Using a standard charger AND transmitting data through it (to PCs!) will be awesome. My wired 360 controller I use for PC is from 2005 and awful. =(

I still find it weird that they are requiring Xbox Gold for things like Netflix.

It doesn't really matter since my ps3, wii, wii u, 3ds, phone, tablet, PC, and even TV all have free-to-use Netflix apps, but it is weird.

They are just not differing from their current (and wildly popular) model. They are adding all the extra features (Skype, game DVR, NFL) behind Gold as well. Sony announced they aren't, so you really are paying just for the games and multiplayer on the PS4.

I don't like paywalling stuff like that either. I've constantly been against it and it's one very true negative. However, as you said everything can do netflix or hulu or whatever. I don't necessarily need it to be done on an Xbox.

OH,OH,OH... It has an ON/OFF switch lol. So yeah...so much for the "no physical button to turn it on or off". I am now thinking that Kinect will not be required. Yes it comes with it cause they want you to use it. However, they give you the headset (so much for kinect voice chat) and they provide a capacitive touch on/off button (like the fat PS3) so you don't need to say "xbox off" anymore. Seems like all the pieces are there now so that the kinect requirement was never actually a requirement. Rather it was marketing to make people believe it was necessary in order to get people to use it and game developers to provide usages for it. I do like though that the Kinect functions as an IR blaster so it can directly control your cable/sat box as you browse through the menu. Not real useful for me as I don't have a way to point the kinect at my cable box which would be in a slot directly below it.

Any thoughts?

That is the precise reason I will never buy another XBox. I jsut want a simple console that isn't even Internet connected.

Then don't hook it to the internet. Done. You do not have to have it connected at all. Seriously this was covered over a month ago now.

Also why are you bolding a comment about Netflix? Netflix REQUIRES you be online because it is a streaming movie service. If you don't want to connect your console to the internet, you can't use netflix...not even on a PS3 or PS4.

At least from what I've seen, it's probably because Microsoft writes the apps for the 360. I did find a post on the XBOX Forums that was from the Engineering Blog that did mention that the XBOX Team writes the Netflix app. I don't know if Netflix or Sony writes the PS3 software.

So you will never buy another Xbox because they make you pay for live to use netflix. But you also want a console that isn't connected to the internet? That sounds like some good reasoning.

Xbox One: Sharing Digital Games and Gold

Today Marc Whitten has posted details on how Xbox One will expand how you share your games and outlines some of the benefits that Gold members will be getting at no additional cost.
Here are the highlights:
Sharing Digital Games
Everyone in your home can share digital games with each other. Your Xbox One can become your virtual game library filled with digital games that different people in the home bought. Anyone can pick any digital game on your Xbox One, sign in with their own gamertag and play – even if the owner is not signed in. Like physical media, you can also play many digitally downloaded games without being online, although experiences will be best when connected to the internet and Xbox Live. Finally, when you purchase a digital game, you can start playing even before the entire game downloads.
Because your digital games go with you, you can also use and share digital games when you sign in to another console. And, if you happen to buy a digital game when you are signed in on your friend’s console, your game will also be available on your Home Xbox One console for anyone to use.
Sharing digital games is a great feature of Xbox One, and we’re also making it possible for Xbox Live Gold members to share some of the best benefits of Gold.
Sharing Xbox Live Gold benefits
At E3 this year, we briefly highlighted a new benefit we’re bringing to Xbox Live Gold members on Xbox One. We’re calling it Home Gold. It will enable any Xbox Live Gold member on Xbox One to extend many Gold features to others at no additional cost. One Xbox Live Gold account delivering great benefits to everyone in the home.
Here’s how Xbox Live Gold members can extend Gold benefits including multiplayer gaming, Game DVR, SmartMatch and access to entertainment apps and experiences, including The NFL on Xbox, Skype, Internet Explorer:

  • At home. You can set up your console at home so that anyone who uses that console will enjoy multiplayer gaming and access to entertainment apps – even if you are not home or logged in.
  • On the go. You can log in at a friend’s house and everyone there can enjoy multiplayer gaming and access to entertainment apps while you are logged in.
At Home with Xbox One
If you’re an Xbox Live Gold member, an unlimited number of people can enjoy many benefits of Xbox Live Gold while they are using your Home Xbox One console. Friends and family will simply create their own account and gamertag and be able to enjoy Xbox Live online multiplayer gaming and access to entertainment apps.
Friends coming over to play? No problem. They can log in with their own gamertag and play online multiplayer. Even if you sign off, your friends and family can enjoy multiplayer gaming while they are playing on your Home Xbox One console.
At a Friend’s House with Xbox One
On Xbox One if you are an Xbox Live Gold member, you will be able to go to a friend’s house and play co-op multiplayer– even if your friend is not a Gold subscriber. Once you log in with your Xbox Live Gold account, everyone using that console can access multiplayer and entertainment apps for as long as you are logged in.
At Home with Xbox 360 and Xbox One
If you are an Xbox Live Gold member today, you are already set for Xbox One. Your Xbox Live Gold membership for Xbox 360 will seamlessly become an Xbox Live Gold account on your Xbox One and you will be able to enjoy Xbox Live Gold features on either console. You can even be logged in to Xbox 360 and Xbox One at the same time. Home Gold benefits are exclusively for Xbox One.
What Home Gold Means for the Xbox One Experience
With Xbox One everyone in your home has a personalized account, which will enable powerful and personal experiences, and that’s one of the reasons why we wanted to create Home Gold. It means that your account and your gamertag are truly yours. You don’t have to share your gamertag for multiplayer gaming with others in your home, or see recommendations for your kid’s cartoons next to the recommended first-person shooter for you. It also means that you can introduce new games and enjoy multiplayer with friends while they are at your house. Last but not least, it also means that when you buy one Xbox Live Gold membership, multiple people can enjoy the best benefits of Xbox Live Gold on your Xbox One at no additional charge.

So, that is why they canceled the family play it seems. That actually sounds like a good feature.

Looks like my GF won't have to pay for her own Xbox Live account anymore.

Besides online play, and free games (mostly old ones that no one wants) this may be the only other compelling feature to pay for gold.

I the other crap like Netflix and HBO Go can be had for free on the Playstation. Blocking streaming video is more likely to make one by a PS4 where those features are free rather than their intended nudge, to make people pay for XBL.

Yep that's fantastic.

They never clarified the deal with the family plan, but anyone with a brain knew that it wasn't going to be unlimited sharing with 10 people lol. There's no way the developers would ever go for that, it would trash sales of single-player games FAR more than used games ever would have.

This, on the other hand, is brilliant and well conceived, and gives XBL another feather in it's hat that makes the user experience better for those whom share a console or visit friends.

Well done MS, credit where its due!

Once again, once MS got rid of that Zynga-Douche they have been making much better decisions. Dumping that turd was the best thing MS did for the XBone.

Why is everyone treating the XBOX Live Gold sharing like current news? It was announced months ago (i.e. when the "Zynga-Douche" was there); however, like just about everything with the X1, they never really went into detail. That's what we got today... clarification.
