Yep that's fantastic.

They never clarified the deal with the family plan, but anyone with a brain knew that it wasn't going to be unlimited sharing with 10 people lol. There's no way the developers would ever go for that, it would trash sales of single-player games FAR more than used games ever would have.

This, on the other hand, is brilliant and well conceived, and gives XBL another feather in it's hat that makes the user experience better for those whom share a console or visit friends.

Well done MS, credit where its due!

This is a completely different feature. This was from them removing the Xbox Live Gold Family plan. They stated before you'd only need to pay for a single account, but they hadn't explained exactly how that works. This, however, is better than I think anyone could have imagined.

Also, the time limit on sharing was confirmed to be false by an MS exec. So, if you take an anonymous sourced article that was a bunch of whining over an MS exec's word, that is on you.

Makes a lot more sense to do it this way. Seems like they were not sure how to do this in the beginning before they took away the no used game policy. I think they didn't have a plan ready. But if they had, and stated this just as we read now, no one would have had any issues. All people were pissed about was the clarification part.

Why is everyone treating the XBOX Live Gold sharing like current news? It was announced months ago (i.e. when the "Zynga-Douche" was there); however, like just about everything with the X1, they never really went into detail. That's what we got today... clarification.

That never going into detail is the problem. It allows wiggle room and that zynga-douche seemed to direct every bit of wiggle room into some abomination for the XBone and gamers. As anything, the devil is always in the details and the details on just about everything since that douchenozzel was kicked to the curb have been good.

I'll take anything over an MS exec's word that would say that 10 people across the country could share titles in an unlimited fashion (other than not playing the same game at the same time). There's simply no way the devs would go for that, it would demolish single-player game sales like nothing else.

"Should I buy a new game?"

"Nah, I'll just see what's on the share list, and play that"

It was just pie in the sky BS, quite obviously so. You know developers as well as I do, crying about used games and equating it with piracy. A 'feature' that lets TEN TIMES more than a single user UNLIMITED FREE PLAY from a SINGLE PURCHASE ACROSS THE COUNTRY was just ludicrously stupid.

http://www.neowin.net/news/microsoft-xbox-one-family-game-share-was-never-time-limited

Aaron Greenberg of Xbox Team says no time limit. Suuuuuuuuure. It's easy to say something like that after you don't have to be responsible for it. But at a business model it was utterly impossible. There simply had to be some limitations in there, otherwise groups of friends could simply buy a single copy of a handful of games, and without even having to loan a disc around town (or to relatives/friends across the country) they could play them, beat them, and forget about them without even having to rent them, let alone buy more than a single copy. Regardless of any BS that they try to tell you about 'stifling innovation', the devs ultimately run the show, and for all we know it could have been only a handful of games that could participate in it, or a timed exclusive period before titles could be shared to begin with (90 days, 180 days, whatever).

And yes, I KNOW that this is a completely different feature. It's a great one, and a realistic one. I never said anything otherwise. For that matter, for digitally purchased discless titles, there's actually nothing stopping MS from enabling the original digital sharing model. I don't think it's likely, because it would be an utterly idiotic business decision that the developers would crap their pants over.

That's actually a pretty good deal.
Agreed, that's SUPER fair, and lets you spend some cash on good games if you're already planning on grabbing the One.
No kidding... I want Madden and Battlefield, but had already decided that I won't be buying them for the 360, since the Xbone will be out a couple of months later. But this policy has changed my mind. And I imagine plenty of other buyers have reconsidered, too.

I got a kick out of all the fan boys who were but hurt when ms took family sharing because they believed that you'd be able to share the games with random people on the net. Both you and I knew that the odds of that happening were zero but the fan boys loved to argue with me that this surely would be the case and people like me screwed it it up by complaining about their drm.

Man fan boys can be so stupid. But I have a guilty pleasure, reading idiotic comments.

This doesn't seem like a bad deal for ppl who get the games before release of the console

Here's how it works:

1. You must be a PowerUp Rewards member at the time of new Xbox 360 game purchase.

2.You must purchase the new version of an eligible Xbox 360 game within the first 30 days of its release at GameStop.

3. Following the purchase of an eligible game, you will receive the guaranteed $50.00 in-store credit coupon via email** and in your PowerUp Rewards Active Offers.

4. Bring the in-store credit coupon with your game to trade toward the new Xbox One standard version of the same game at any U.S. GameStop location.

Redemption of the coupon must occur by December 31, 2013.

Hmm too bad they don't have the same for ps3. especially since I think many will be buying gta 5 for ps3 or other new games that may be out before the new system.

I've not seen any mention that GTA V will be released on next gen. This is Microsoft's way to ensure people keep buying games for the 360 and not waiting until the X1 version comes out at launch. I was going to wait to see how Madden turns out on the X1 but I may get it for the 360 now and upgrade for $10 when the X1 releases.

It probably will not be released for the next gens. Maybe not until later. But this is a good option for sport games and those who are not sure they want the new console.

GTAV won't get a next-gen release unless there's a PC version which has higher resolution assets (meaning it was planned all along).

Given that it will be an easy re-sell for the new console even if it's mostly a poor quality port, I think we will see it down the line a little ways.

Perhaps or even probably it will be a GOTY kind of release that has expansion packs.

Hell, the gaming community at large modded GTA4 themselves, and the results are spectacular, it looks like a completely different game. Go to youtube and watch some of those videos. If a handful of hobbyists can take GTA4 vanilla and make it look almost like a next-gen/bleeding edge title, then Rockstar can definitely take GTA5 and at least turn up the details/draw distance/AA/etc and drop it on Xbox One. There's simply too much money on the table not to.

The model of new consoles usually involves a TON of people trashing/trading/giving away their old ones when they get the new ones. The more hardcore folks usually keep them, but the masses dump them. I can't tell you how many Xbox original and PS2s I saw flood the charity I work for in my spare time. Every single weekend I'd see box after box of games and consoles. I'm now starting to see 360s and PS3s donated on a much higher than average rate, and I'm sure the floodgates will open one the new consoles launch.

Microsoft is paying the difference out of their pocket to Gamestop.

I doubt it. Gamestop just turns around and sells the xbox 360 games at near new prices, this is what gamestop does. There is no need for MS to assist them with their thievery.

The end result is that gamestop loses little to nothing, they will sell the xbox 360 games as used. This also prevents next-generation hesitation - a lot of folks aren't pre-ordering bf4, etc because they can't decide which system they want. This makes the choice easier for folks like that to buy the 360 version - obviously anyone considering XB1 would hesitate if not for this offer.

I know how gamestop works, I was a manager for many years. They are doing this because MS is paying the bill. Otherwise they would offer the same deal for PS3/PS4.

True. And I imagine GS soaks up a percentage to keep it a GS exclusive deal.

Looks like the Xbox One controller will be "enabled for PC" in 2014. I guess Windows won't come with the native drivers for it until then. =( Well, at least eventually it will work on PC.

This is a great and wise move by MS. That's something that was always better about the 360 over PS3 anyway, the 360 controllers worked much better on PC than hacking a PS3 controller onto PC ever did. My personal favorite PC gamepad is a Gamestop 360 wired controller (better D-pad by far than the official MS 360 controller).

This new controller actually transfers data over USB (the wireless 360 controller did not, but the wireless Windows 360 controller did for some reason). So, I'd imagine whenever a DX update gets the driver for the new controller, every DX game will use the Xbox One controller flawlessly.
