It'll be glorious. I tried various gamepads for YEARS on PC, and not one of them was up to the quality of a legit 360 controller. As I also play retro games quite a bit, I absolutely had to have a good D-pad. The PS3 D-pad is better, but PS3 controllers work for crap on PC. Luckily the gamestop 360 controller d-pad is even better than the PS3s, while still having excellent ergonomics and analog/triggers. The fact that MS isn't segregating the XB1 controllers like they did with the 360 wireless ones is great news.

This new controller actually transfers data over USB (the wireless 360 controller did not, but the wireless Windows 360 controller did for some reason). So, I'd imagine whenever a DX update gets the driver for the new controller, every DX game will use the Xbox One controller flawlessly.

Also, someone will likely get it to function 100% like they did with the ps3 controller via motion joy.

Even though I never had an Xbox 360 I always liked that it was plug and play with the pc and almost every game that supported controllers worked.

I have used motion joy with my ps3 controller without issues on multiple computers. I have also read some posts where people have had lots of trouble with motionjoy...mainly because there is no proper documentation.

Motionjoy seems to be hit or miss. I've read about tons of problems with it and I've seen people say they never had a problem. There are versions that require you to be online for certain functionality (rumble or something stupid).

MS did a really good job by adding in the Xbox 360 controller native into the DX code. Everything from like DX9 on ward will accept the 360 controller, whether the developer used the API or not I believe.

I don't understand what you mean by this. Xbox 360 wireless controllers work just fine on a PC as long as you buy the USB receiver.

you don't need that adapter for the x1 controllers, you just plug them in with the usb cable and they become wired.

Oh I see, so the new controllers are hybrid wired/wireless. Good idea.

The Windows 360 Controller was the same. It could transfer data over USB and do wireless (similar to how this new controller will work).

I am wondering if the wireless functionality will be available on PCs attached to a wireless network. Doesn't it use some sort of Wifi instead of IR or Bluetooth?

Yes the new Xbox controllers use Wifi Direct so you'll definitely need an adaptor for it.

Are you sure you'll need an adapter? Reading about Wifi Direct, it seems like you just need a router capable and the software on the PC. I don't know though.

Even better if the battery is low or dead and you plug it in, the wireless shuts off so it can charge faster.

I dunno, I followed this and it worked perfectly the first time. http://www.gamefront.com/how-to-use-a-ps3-controller-on-a-pc/

I have heard of some nightmares with getting it to work wirelessly via bluetooth dongles though.

I think they are just delaying those markets to free up available inventory for the much larger ones. The US is their largest by far, and the UK makes up around half of the Europe Market I believe (based on 360 sales). They would rather have those units slated for markets where there will be increased demand.

They aren't even launching in Asia (which is their weakest market) until later, why not countries that are similar in demographic.

XBox One will fail in europe anyway. It has weaker hardware specs and all the TV features for NFL won't work either. So there is 0 reason to chose xbox over PS except for xbox only games.

Or you like the controller better, you like/want the Kinect, you prefer the online system, etc.

Sunday Ticket on DirecTV has been available in browser in Europe for years and sells a lot of subscriptions. The NFL stuff might actually work here.

And it won't fail in Europe.

The percentage of console buyers who actually know and compare the specs is miniscule.

It'll all be based on the excluaives i think. Heck Microsoft would probably sell a ton in Europe if they did soccer over there like they do the NFL here in the states.

It will certainly fail in Europe, but that's to be expected. Did you see the 360 numbers outside of the UK? Complete failure. XB1 is more expensive than 360 and being launched against a direct competitor with a better reputation there, combined with features that largely don't matter to those markets (incompatible in many cases actually due to their TV delivery systems, lol). The Xbox titles aren't as popular in Europe either. Ever see what's popular in Germany, France, Italy, Spain? It's far far different than here.

Everyone knows this.

Specs though, people largely don't care. If the difference is large enough visually, people might take notice later on, but for launch timeframe it's all about hype/sentiment/economics.

XB1 may do okay in UK, but is going to bomb like hell in Europe. Same as XB1 should do very well in the US.

Saying XB1 will do well in Europe at large is like saying XB1 will do well in Japan. Not gonna happen.

Xbox 360 sold 24 million in Europe, 8 of those were from the UK. I think the Xbox One will do just fine in Europe. Sure, it will fail in Japan, but MS doesn't care about Japan.

And how many did PS3 sell in the same space even WITH horrible pricing by comparison? Hell, PS3 global sales are above 360s, and PS3 was a year late and hugely overpriced. That means subtract US and UK and you have a distant 2nd or 3rd place for 360 in all other countries.

This time around they are the more expensive option, and still have a library that's largely US-centric in demographic. I don't see them even pulling even to 360 numbers in Europe and Asia. Given Microsoft's apparent plans with XB1, I don't think they expect to either.
