been hearing alot of rumors about XBONE sucking it in framerates when compared to PS4. Like MAJOR sucking.

I don't see how this is beneficial to the thread (at least the way it is currently worded). Any references?

So people who already have considerable $$$ invested in a wheel setup for their 360, have to buy a totally new setup since the old one won't be compatible with XBONE racing games.
Well isn't that just great.

yep, kind of like how it has been for the history of video games (with the exception of some psx controllers working on ps2 and the wii using gamecube controllers). not sure why anyone would expect something different all of a sudden.

Probably because some people have over a thousand bucks or more into a racing setup. They probably expected some sort of adapter for those high end setups. I personally find it a little ridiculous that a racing wheel and pedal setup or even a fight stick cannot just work through USB across platform generations. Not talking about using a ps3 stick on 360 but rather USB accessories working in 360 and xb1. I understand the money side of it for business but man...I couldn't imagine spending that kind of cash on a high end racing setup and then have it worthless when people start moving to the new platform.

the people who pay for the high end setups have enough money that they can buy another one every 8 years or so, and they know it. spending $200 - $300 every 8 years for something that will get thousands upon thousands of hours of use really is not that much money when you think about how much use it gets and how much entertainment it gives. as someone who has spent probably $400 or more on joystick stuff for the past gen (360 and ps3 combined) i have no problem that my current joystick won't work on the new consoles, and have already reserved a $200 joystick. everyone wants to have their cake and eat it too.

they are in the business to make money (as you said you already understand).

True, I have far more expensive hobbies (firearms) so I don't claim that gaming is really that expensive when compared to something like that or drag racing or boating or a myriad other hobbies. Still for me personally I couldn't spend that much on a racing setup. I am happy enough with a controller for forza even if I still kind of suck at it.

i bet if i was into sim racers i'd love a high end wheel setup. but i'm not, i prefer games like burnout and nfs. i can only dream of a burnout game on x1, it would be amazing.

I think the problem with this generation is that the amount of people buying these peripherals is higher than any other generation. Few people cared their Powerpad didn't translate over to the SNES, because the amount there were "substantial" controller differences. After the original Xbox and the PS2 Dual shock, MS and Sony's controllers have remained pretty much the same. They haven't really added any more buttons.

As far as fightsticks, I have purchased quite a few. I have an HRAP and two dual modded 360 fight sticks as well as a PS3 stick I only use for tournaments. That is quite the investment I'm okay with "giving up" on the new consoles.

When you get into the fightstick discussion it's different. It's not like all the fighters will immediately be available for the XB1. On the 360/PS3 you still have King of Fighters, Marvel vs Capcom, BlazBlue, Skullgirls and all the Street Fighter versions they released on PSN/Live. So I don't necessarily feel the need to worry about losing my stick since there will only be one fighter (that I know of currently) on the XB1 for a while. I'd like to get a stick for it and I probably will buy one. I can still play all the fighters on both my PS3 and PC which is quite a lot of them and I believe the community will still be there in some form for a while since the PS4 and XB1 are both going to be quite new and not everyone will jump on board with them right away. Support for the old system doesn't drop immediately upon release of the new one. I don't really remember but in the past I believe this happened. When a new system came out you couldn't find anything for the old one. Now with used games and online gameplay the system's lifespan is increased with new players jumping in late or people picking up games cheap on the used market and wanting to give them a go.

Someone might get my Xbox pre-order. I cancelled mine on Amazon, was going to get both systems but since the PS4 is cheaper, I'm going with that first and Xbox a couple months later most likely when Titanfall comes out.

when i was getting a new laptop months ago, i debated for quite some time between getting an MBP or a laptop i know i could hackintosh. i was replacing an older hackintosh.

after a lot of debate i could NOT justify the more than $1k price difference for the MBP, even though the MBP would have had a lot nicer hardware than the laptop i ended up getting.

looking back on the decision months later, i'm EXTREMELY happy that i did what i did. everything runs smooth on it and it is more powerful than i need it for (browsing the web and ios development).

I initially had a MPB. Bought it for development then realized I would be developing in java. So, I never used it except to browse the net and stuff while I sat on the couch at home. I pretty much did everything on my desktop. I ended selling it on EBay. If I ever need a laptop I would get something cheap and throw linux mint on there. I would only buy a MBP just to have because they are pretty nice looking, if I had money to burn.

Sadly, I need a ton of RAM for my development. Running multiple WebSphere servers is a PITA...

For similar specs and quality I can't find a laptop the competes with the rMBP. Most have awful keyboards / trackpads and screens just aren't up to the quality of Apples. All the laptops with the specs I am looking for are around the same price, without OSX. Figure I might as well just pick one up. I could easily run Windows when I need it.

yeah if you didn't need to be running osx to develop for ios, i probably would never have worried about putting osx on there to begin with and just stuck with windows.

You can do Java development no problem on a MBP. Quite a few people I work with use MBPs. Mostly because the laptops they assign us are junk.

ah yeah gotcha. the screens and trackpads can't be beat on mbp for sure, they are top of the line. i just couldn't justify paying $1k+ more JUST for those features. i have windows on one partition on mine but i think i've booted into it twice. there really isn't a need to since if i'm doing non-ios development, i'm doing it on my desktop.

Yeah I know but when I got to work we were assigned desktops and we are not allowed to take work/code home for security issues. The keyboard and screen is my favorite part of a MBP. The touchpad on mine felt grainy but maybe I have dry hands lol.

I should have kept it, for general use and to take with you, they hold up very well. But then again I've never had issues with windows pc or laptops either.

Yeah, it really sucks because pretty much all laptops that have the required specs are around the same price. I think the cheapest I could find was $900.

Thankfully, with a MBP, it is rather trivial to load up an image of the Windows machine they've assigned for when I actually need Windows. Everything else we use can easily be done on OSX.

And I'll get the added bonus of being able to do iOS development.

I like the MBA as a secondary machine. I don't need lots of specs for what I use it for. I like it as my couch surfer.
