I went into a department stores (Harvey Norman) grand opening this weekend in CHCH, NZ just looking at random bits n pieces and they had a XBOne hooked up to a LG 84" 4k playing Forza. I was very surprised to see it.

They had the console sitting right in front of the TV not hidden away at all was pretty cool. Its smaller than I thought it was. There was only a few people there looking at it so I asked the guy if i could turn it off and on and he had no issues, the touch power button is very nice and the dash is very very nice and fast to flick around in. It was a dev kit and the forza that was on it was the only game and it was also only 1 race track so it was like some kind of demo version of forza but it was very pretty (the $20 grand TV probably helped as well.

Racing games are not my thing either but Forza seemed a lot like the other ones i have seen but a lot closer to a racing game on a higher end PC in graphics.

True...it is just odd to me that it was such a "hell no, no way, no how" thing.

I don't think it's weird. Why would Microsoft allow you to plug an unknown USB device into a development machine with pre-release software on it. It's the exact same reason you can't bring USB stuff into Blizzcon.

I read some article about an experiment where the researchers placed USB drives in parking lots with a fake virus that reported back what computer had plugged it in, and the amount of people that were infected was astounded. Who finds a USB drive in the parking lot and then plugs it into their work computer?

The sad part is when I was developing in the military, I could imagine at least half of the people doing that... And then spreading the infection on an internal network. They had to disable all USB devices Air Force wide.

Yeah, but they don't know what you've done to it. It's not like the executives can tell all the people in the trucks "Check out the device, and if you think it's ok, no problem."
The easiest way for them to avoid issues is to just say, "No way, no how, no exceptions."

I doubt it's some huge conspiracy to convince you to buy a new controller.

Gents, I asked this a while ago but didn't get a response. Do we want a fresh X1 launch thread? I think it'd be nice with all the information in the OP. Unless someone objects heavily and wants to continue with this thread, I'll create a launch thread today and ask the mods to lock this one.

I think it's a good idea.

Same, maybe link the x1 faq and put the most important info in bold in the first post.

seems reasonable. Could consolidate a lot of info we know about the launch.

Blurred is going to give me a bunch of links and whatnot to add to the OP (I asked MBP and he's fine with it). This 'official' thread is going well, so I am hesitant to close it at this point. Would rather just update the OP with any relevant information.

If you have any major concerns, let me know, otherwise I will proceed as indicated.

went back again to play at the x1 tour again today. it started at 3:30 and went to 6pm. i got there at 4:30pm though so i wasn't there from the get go.

when i got there, i saw 5 killer instincts and 1 fifa. i asked the guys if it started out the same with 2 forzas, 2 killer instincts, and 2 fifas, and he said yea. he said pretty much everywhere they go, it ends up everyone wanting to play killer instinct for the most part and they turn most setups into killer instinct.

i once again put some more time with the controller, and i have to say i still do not like the dpad, at least for the fighter. it still sucks like the 360 one. even though the l/r aren't "connected" to the u/d like they were in the 360, i was pressing left or right and still getting up inputs and jumping when i did not want to. then doing SRK type moves in killer instinct was just not easy at all and was a pain in the ass. i simply do not like the dpad at all, even though it's an improvement. thankfully no games now a days really use it.

i also ended up picking up the x1 day1 xbl card at best buy today because i wanted shadow jago after playing killer instinct. i also didn't know it comes with a $20 credit to use on XBL until this morning, so i will use that towards crimson dragon once i get the credit emailed to me.

Indeed it does: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/microsof...6568&sellerId=

Good to know it's in-store, too. I have some Amazon credit and while they currently have the $20 in Microsoft cash, it's only with purchase of the regular 12-month online code, not the day one card. I'm hoping they'll update that soon.

that is interesting, your link doesn't say anything about the $20 credit when i click on it. this one does though.

i also have no clue how i get the $20 credit. i didnt' give them my email or anything when i purchased it in store. i did give them my rewardzone though, maybe it's through that?

Maybe it would be available once you activate the card and it should go into your Xbox account.

Weird, not sure why my link didn't work.

Nonetheless, it seems as if your code is emailed and possibly even put on your receipt.

it was odd, when she was ringing me up, i saw something pop up on the little screen that shows you the price and item you are purchasing, like the $20 xbl credit - $0.00

then on the receipt it says nothing about it. i think i'll contact them via chat tomorrow online and just ask them about it.

i dunno on the best buy link it says it'll be emailed instantly or up to 8 hours after purchase. but i didn't give an email address to the cashier, but i did give rewardszone so maybe it got my email from that. but i don't have an email from em yet and i got it around noon.

Sometimes it takes longer. Usually the email used is the one with the reward zone card. Takes them long enough to email your reward zone points anyway. I've always lost at least $5 bucks in points because by the time I get a notification there is nothing I want to buy.

See if you get it tomorrow and if not chat with support or better to call since sometimes the chat people don't always give the best answers.

Maybe you were supposed to grab a $20 XBOX Live card too, and it would end up being marked as free on your receipt?
